Mega rant under the read more. I will censor the character names so it doesn’t show in the tags, but if you want to reblog, you can tag it appropriately. It’s about O35 x O49, and the weird mentality against its shippers that sometimes I have to gaze upon when looking for Dyo fanart.

I don’t understand where the abuse allegations come from, specifically, how shippers are borderline called abuse apologists for shipping it. And it’s often followed by O49 being the poor victim in the ship, harassed by O35 the evil manipulator… An accusation that is downright ridiculous when these people typically like both anomalies individually (this sentence doesn’t apply to all ships, but on this one, where both are horror monsters, it is actually jarring how you can excuse the doctor murdering people but draw the line at him being shipped with another murderer).

Both O49 and O35 are horrible in their own right. They are both murderers, serial killers, they both have a grandiose sense of self. The doctor is an arrogant man who thinks others are beneath him when they don’t get the pestilence. The doctor refuses to explain what said pestilence is. The doctor has a very arbitrary diagnosis for this ailment, that seems to shift based on his opinion on the person. His cure is to kill, operate on the corpse, and revive it as a zombie fully under his control. The mask requires hosts to move around, kills to exist, and even if he doesn’t use you, he can get into your brain and fuck it up so much you commit suicide. He’s manipulative and leaves long lasting impacts on your brain if he decides to mess with it.

They are also, fundamentally, immune to one another. The doctor can’t use his death touch on the mask, and the mask can’t be worn by the doctor. Because they both have connections to Alag4dd4 (censoring so it doesn’t show in the tags), AND the doctor has psychic powers of his own (supposedly, to control his “patients”), we can also assume the mask can only manipulate him like normal people manipulate one another without actually getting into his brain. AKA: they can’t actually use their powers against one another, unless the doctor uses his zombies or the mask manipulates a third party/uses his short-range tentacles. They are pretty much on equal footing power wise. They are people to one another, no matter if they hate it or love it.

 So, you like both of these anomalies individually, but together they are problematic. The claim here is “abuse”, which leads me to ask… Is this about the sed1tion tapes (censored, again, for the same reasons above)? This would only be more ridiculous if you then went on and did a O35 X reader or a O49 x reader, cause guess what, if they are abusive to one another, they would still be so in another relationship.

 Continuing on the topic of the sed1tion tapes- the tapes aren’t canon. Even if they were, which I choose to incorporate into my own headcanons, you could be like me and assume both of them are lying. The claim that Dyo was an obsessive freak that at some point assaulted the doctor is only valid within the tapes’ au, AND if you choose to believe the doctor was being fully honest. Which would make no sense, because the tapes are also inserted into the canon and contradict it.

 And let us talk about the canon, shall we? Do the abuse claims come from when, while the doctor was depressed as all hell, he managed to breach containment and walk into O35’s cell? Where O35 chatted with him for five minutes and reinvigorated him? So… Was the mask abusive by… Manipulating the doctor into being happier? Giving him new found motivation for his cure? Is it because the doctor went on wanting to kill more people after it? Because that’s what the doctor does regardless – he cures, it’s in the name.

 Or is it with the Alag4dd4 canon, with the whole black lord thing, where the two of them apparently had a relationship? A relationship the doctor forgot, and then, back at the foundation, O35 appeared on his cell, calling him his love, crying and begging him to remember and operate on a woman? Is this the abuse? O35 forcefully taking away O49’s amnesia, and the doctor (supposedly) willingly giving him a host afterwards?

 Yes. They are both terrible. Yes, O35 would probably be insufferable and dangerous to date. The same works in reverse. But that’s the beauty – they are both dangerous anomalies dating one another, and possibly finding some comfort in the fact while locked in the foundation.

 The only ways I can view this ship as being abusive in nature are as follows: 1, you view the doctor as completely delusional and the mask feeding on it. For this to work, you need to assume the pestilence isn’t real and that it truly is all in his head, the mask knows this, and uses it to his advantage; 2, you choose to portray the mask as being completely unhinged and obsessed, to the point where it consistently actually hurts the doctor and forces them to be together/forces himself on him (which could be an AU if you follow the sed1tion lore, I guess); or 3, you view the mask as being hopelessly in love for the first time, the doctor dismissing it, and only using him to advance his medical findings, neglecting the mask in the process.

 Not to say their hypothetical love would be healthy. It certainly wouldn’t be. But here in Portugal we have saying that goes “só se destroi uma casa”, “only one home is ruined”, and I believe that applies to them.

 Besides, the problem isn’t really the canon either, because I’ve seen some arguing the cutesy sfw quirky funny little aus are wrong too and promote a bad relationship to younger people who know no better… A ridiculous claim on its own. If you’re gonna ship two characters, you should know their dynamics at least. Fuck. This is the fandom where all you gotta do is read two logs on a website, it’s not that hard, how can anyone be manipulating anyone here? This is not a 5 season show, it takes less than half an hour to read both their files plus the Alag4dd4 stuff. How are you in the horror fandom and don’t know these are horror monsters?

 The problem is this: the ship doesn’t sail for some people. Some people are uncomfortable with it, some are disgusted. Which is good! You shouldn’t be a sheep who likes everything that is popular! But to insult those who do because “if I no likey you must be a bad person”… I have to wonder if you’re old enough to be online.

 Rant over. I’ve been thinking about this for months every time I see something like that while browsing tumblr. Now that I’m slowly moving on from the fandom because my tastes lie elsewhere, I feel less shy about speaking on this.
