i like the repeated implication in this series that elf food (especially the cake) is just Not That Great in general

panel 1: candies shaped like objects. text says "lyrikmumare. Since they're distributed to a large number of people, its doubtful that the queen choses each one herself."
panel 2: more shaped candies and some elves talking amongst themselves.
text boxes say: ""They're chosen by random lottery." "A proxy for the queen thinks them up and sorts them." "There's no meaning in them anyway." "The queen only hand picks a select few" There are many such rumours."
the elves say: "tch, i guess it's fine" "what does this mean?"
panel 3: textbox says "How do they taste?"
pattadol embarrassedly replies "I put off eating them and they ended up being eaten by insects... Ah please. keep that a secret". mithrun responds "I don't remember..."
panel 4: kabru, holding a plate of what appears to be rasgulla, excitedly responds "The sweets from my hometown are-" before noticing milsiril silently looming behind him sadly and cutting himself off, saying "ah... um..."
panel 5: kabru dejectly explains "This is a nut cake... It's a dessert that can be found everywhere in elven lands." behind him is a large image of what looks like a fruitcake, labelled "the so-called elf cake". milsiril smiles proudly
panel 6: kabru looking miserable as he eats the elf cake and milfsiril looms behind him. he says "Despite being called a cake, its not very sweet, and its kinda crumbly. Then sometimes you'll get some extremely sweet candied nuts that get all gummy and sticky in your mouth..."

young delgal, holding a book: "A lot of western literature talks about how good it tastes. Have you ever tried it, Thistle?"
thistle: "I haven't. Whats the difference between it and the cakes we have here?"
delgal: "I dunno, Lets find the recipe and ask one of the seruants to help make it"
thistle: "I don't know why you're so interested."
delgal: "Its a dish from your homeland, right? Of course I'm interested."
thistle: "You say 'my homeland'... But I was just born there and then abandoned, anyway..."
delgal, pulling an unhappy thistle by the hand: "Come on, lets get to it."
the two of them go to the castle kitchen and request elf cake, and watch excitedly as the cooks prepare the cake. they are impressed when they see the finished cake, but look severely disappointed when they actually taste it
delgal: "It's pretty different than what I was expecting.. it's not that bad but"
thistle: "The snacks we have here are much better."
delgal: "Well then, We can just say that this country is your real homeland then."
thistle smiles

more merfolk clothing sketches, very inspired from WHA's witches fashion style

different merfolks from different places indulge in diff customs and traditions, these guys are from a village in Azuloch (i'll share the map when it's finished or drop wips) 🫶

they worship the moon and it's lunar phases, placing importance on the connection between the moon and the tides

clothing-wise they go for free flowing styles that lets them move in big motions

Some merfolks also have different physical features; Azuloch merfolks feature long sturdy tails for maneuver, and commonly 1-2 pairs of head fins while Edrerians have short stubby tails, ankle fins and 2 or more pairs of head fins 💥

higher status Azulochess' clothing are more inconvenient? indicating they don't need to move as much as lower status who does everyday work and mundane things

these sketches don't really portray Edrerians as a whole tho i just thought cowboys were neat HAHAHSSJ (maybe betta fishes are likely to be cowboys!! yeehaw)

young agir hmm.... . . doing some species exploration for worldbuilding ;D i'll update things in this post
