Nicole has ascended to the highest plane of musical storyboarding/animation. If you’ve seen her work on Central Park, that is not a surprise, but the variety, the pacing, the clarity of it all is just *chef’s kiss* You can see how much she loves the craft and Beetlejuice. 

After two years of intermittent labor, here it finally is! Thank you so much to everyone who has been following the progress of this getting made and for supporting me as I took on a project that kind of exploded in scale past what I initially planned haha.

Firstly, thank you to everyone involved in making Beetlejuice the Musical! I love it so much and this thing only happened because the source material is just so good. Consider this a send-off for the musical since it’ll be closing early next year. If you’re able to, y'all should really grab some tickets and see the show live! They’re also touring the show soon, so really there’s no excuse!! Go watch this show. It’s a joy and a labor of love.

Secondly, I feel it’s necessary to provide a small disclaimer. This project started out as a storyboard and ended up landing somewhere in between boards and animation. For sake of those who don’t know and maybe want to break into the animation industry, this level of polish, color, backgrounds, etc is ABSOLUTELY NOT what is expected or wanted from an actual professional storyboard. I put in the time and effort to give it this level of polish just for fun! And also because I know I’m not shipping it off to get animated. This is the final product and it’s something I just wanted to do for the hell of it because I love boarding and I love this musical.

Now that that’s out of the way, I just wanna give an extra thanks to Jeannette Arroyo and Amber Blade Jones for busting their asses to give this little project some of the most BEAUTIFUL backgrounds in the business. It elevated the level of this thing beyond anything I could’ve hoped for.

Thank you for watching Digimon Ghost Game episode 48! 

This time around I handled layouts and 2nd key animation for the scene of Kiyoshiro eating his mushrooms and TeslaJellymon powering up. I’m so happy a lil bit of my animation got to share screentime with the song First Riders. I love that song so much. You can watch some of my section here. This weekend marks my 9th episode for Ghost Game, and a year since the first episode I worked on aired, episode #3. It’s been such an incredibly fun and stressful journey, my life has changed so much since then, it’s so crazy to think about it. Thank you all for your support!! MUSHROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMS So many mushrooms. I love the body horror aspects of this episode, it felt incredibly intense, but by god drawing all those mushrooms took so much time, I was so stressed and tired by the end of it.  I’m just glad it came out ok. I’m a very slow animator, so usually the last cuts I draw I need to rush for the deadline, which means usually the movement isn’t as well realised as it could. I don’t think it’s super obvious from an outside perspective, but knowing intimately how these cuts work just makes me unable to look at them without a bout of anxiety kicking in. But now onto the positives. I think the section with Kiyo and Teslajellymon powering up came out ok. It doesn’t quite flow as I imagined, but it’s still pretty fun to look at I feel like. One of the things I noticed is that the dialogue in my head sounded a bit different, I think in the final version TeslaJellymon sounds almost flirty, and I wasn’t expecting that.  Some details I wanna mention about my cuts:

The poses themselves were following the storyboard and animation supervisor’s drawings, but the overall flow of the scene I was inspired by Henry’s Matrix Evolution BANK animation, done by Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru for Digimon Tamers. I was actually surprised they made the lighting effects green, they were blue in the storyboard. I wonder if the photography department or director caught my source of inspiration and decided to match the visuals a little bit more. 

It’s a bit hard to see but I drew Thetismon into the lightning effects. I was a bit bummed that I didn’t get to draw her, so I tried to sneak her into one of my cuts. She is super fun.  And that’s it!  At the time this was the hardest thing I had ever animated, but the thing I am animating right now is the new hardest thing so be on the lookout for when that airs!
