Let's make a tiny book! You will need: printer paper, cardstock, washi tape, liquid glue, needle & thread, binder clip, junk paper/cardboard. Cut it out: FRONT & BACK COVER, cardstock x 2 (a rectangle, wider than tall, and folded vertically down the middle); PAGES, printer paper x 15 (or more) (a slightly smaller rectangle in the same ratio as the cover pieces, folded vertically down the middle); SPINE, cardstock x 1 (as tall as the cover, and a bit narrower than the book block is thick). Page is illustrated in black and white with simple line art.

BOOK BLOCK: 1. make signatures by stacking three page sheets (you will be stitching them together where they fold, with a long stitch running along the gutter of each signature); 2. sew (insert thread from outside the folded pages); 3. tie together and leave a tail (firmly); 4. stack another signature on top & clip together (with the clip grasping only one side of the folded pages--so you can maneuver the needle); 5. sew (poke into the new signature on the fold, and when coming out at the other end, weave needle through the tied-off loop below to anchor it); 6. stack, clip again, sew (and don't forget to loop through a lower thread ever time to anchor the signatures together); 7. when the book block is as thick as you want, firmly tie your tails together; 8. clip tightly and glue spine edge (let it dry completely). Illustrated with simple black and white line art.

BOOK COVER: tape together spine and cover pieces like this (description: a vertical piece of washi tape with a vertical spine piece centered on the adhesive side. The folded cover pieces have an open edge--opposite the fold--aligned with the spine on the tape as well, with tiny gaps to allow the cover to hinge. Wrap tape around both sides of spine and cover edges without taping the flaps closed.) ASSEMBLY: 1. apply glue evenly inside cover flaps (except on the spine!); 2. insert book block & press flaps closed (description: the first and last page of the book block are laid open in order to tuck under the flaps); 3. wipe off any oozing glue; 4. sandwich with junk cardboard to protect cover (description: the book is sandwiched between two pieces of cardboard, and the clip is holding the entire stack together); 5. clip tightly & press until dry. Simple black and white line drawings to illustrate.

*caveat: this works best in small sizes—anything big will probably need a more complex stitching setup, end papers, and sturdier book covers. My tiny books have been measuring about 1.5x2.2 cm, and .4 cm thick
