Reminiscing Of September

Reminiscing of September

September skies with long window gazes. It’s about 65 degrees and the leaves are starting to go through those changes. The ground sprinkled with orange and red the colors of autumn, streets filled with budding love and hand holding. I’m having one of those flash backs again but this time we’re in my living room surrounded by burning white candles the smell of summer linen while drinking cans of red stripe dressed in comfy casual sweats. The most simple moments mean the most to me. My head nesting in your lap as you run your fingers through my tresses. For the first time in my life I felt safe and at home a feeling unfamiliar but again like a distant relative. No words between us just silence and the sounds of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong’s ‘Autumn in New York’ serenading us in the background. Truth is I’m scared and uncertain about what’s deserving in this lifetime seeing as though I only equate love with motives and disappointment I’ve yet to see it any other way. Wondering will I ever feel that feeling… that feeling you gave me on that autumn evening in September in New York.

We Commemorate The Legacy Of El Hajj Malik El Shabazz, Also Known As Malcolm X, On The Day He Was Assassinated,

We commemorate the legacy of El Hajj Malik El Shabazz, also known as Malcolm X, on the day he was assassinated, February 21st, 1965.

Words cannot describe his revolutionary contributions to the struggle for liberation and self-determination. We can only witness the products of his words and actions in the work that goes on to this day by warriors who he inspired to fight and free us all from what Malcolm called, “this miserable condition that exists on this earth.”

We must see in our organizing work that there are thousands upon thousands of potential Malcolm X’s, from the rotten schools to the prisons. There is hope.

He famously said, “If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything.” So we ask you, where do you stand in the face of injustice?

Rest in Power Malcolm. You will never die as long as we fight for the change you hoped to see. ALL POWER TO THE PEOPLE!
