Picton Castle also has a ship cat! I got to meet her at the Green Bay Tall Ships Fest this summer. Her name is Fiji and when I found her she was chilling at the pet booth in the ‘Maritime Marketplace’–the lady working at the booth said Fiji just waltzed right up and started nuzzling in her catnip toys, haha. 

Very friendly, very smart, allowed me to pet her–10/10 would run away to sea for her :)

Hi! I have a bunch of sailing questions if you don't mind. What's the usual minimum time commitment for someone with no experience? What if you get a job on a ship but can't take it? You recommended the sail training international website - was that to find a paid job or just to take part in the training voyages? I'd swear I've seen someone on tumblr talk about working on cargo tall ships, but I can't for the life of me remember who, do you have any info? Also, are ships cats a thing? Thanks!!

Usually the minimum is two or three months - just the maintenance period, or summer break while in university, or because you’re working on a boat that has a three-month contract, or because you’re only free the first half of the season, discussed it in advance, and the company is willing to half you for just half.

It’s not uncommon for at least one crew member to head out unexpectedly over the course of the seasom. Sometimes it’s because sailing’s not their jam after all; sometimes it’s disputes within the other crew, or because something in their personal lives demands immediate attendance. My first season only myself and the first mate made it through the entire season; conversely this year out of about 16 crew only two people quit that I can remember. Obviously if you’re able to give the captain some warning to find a new deckhand that’s best, but people do leave. (Also why it’s worth checking in with captains even in the summer - someone might have a position just opened up).

If I remember right, I mentioned sail training international mostly as a list of ships that operate internationally, and a resource for finding the names and whereabouts of more tall ships, since I’m best informed on New England and only shakily beyond that. At least some of the ships on there will offer paid positions, so it’s worth contacting interesting vessels to ask (might be limited to crew who already have experience/certain certifications/nationality of the vessel, but I couldn’t say for certain).

I’m afraid I have no idea about cargo tall ships; I know of Tres Hombres, which is frankly The Dream (at least one shipmate of mine would kill to work on her!) but off the top of my head, no others.

Ship’s cats are a thing! I believe it’s the Adventuress out west that has one, and I know the Mary Day had one for several years before she passed away of old age. Not as common as I personally wish, but they’re around!

I may have also spent at least half of my weekend binging MCR music :) And music videos. And behind the scenes stuff. And interviews. 

I sometimes feel like a bit of a bandwagon fan since I first heard Welcome to the Black Parade in 2016 when I stumbled onto a Doctor Who fanvideo set to it (which you can find here btw; it’s still a fantastic video) and so I’m not one of those fans who’s been desperately waiting since 2013 for this reunion, but I’m still quite happy to hear they’re back together, and I guess I’ve been making up for lost time by obsessing, haha.

It’s kind of fun to get into a band that has a fandom attached, too. Like, I also really love Shinedown, but I’ve never found adorable art like this of chibi Brent Smith hanging out in teacups (although if anyone has any, do please let me know!!). Like how cute are these? And the color schemes, and the aesthetics... an excellent artistic tribute to an excellent band :) 

I completely agree, this is the best happily ever after for them. Like “get married, have kids” doesn’t have to be everyone’s happy ending always, but I do think it would’ve been the best fit for these particular characters (and it’s certainly a darn sight better than Ben winding up dead). 

After all, as a lot of people have been saying, Rey has always been looking for a family, and as great as her friend group is, I still think she would have loved this life. It’s the opportunity both characters need to do better with their own family than what they had in the past (no offense to Han and Leia’s parenting, but just things obviously went awry). Also this would be a perfect setup for future movies if they wanted them, with another next generation.

Anyways, mini-rant aside, this is simply gorgeous art; I love the coloring and the depth of it. And, of course, it fills the heart with much-needed warmth.

Oo I love a good “happily ever after... ?” fic, and it’s even better in the form of a beautiful comic! The art is so lovely and detailed, and the emotions in the story are so complicated; I love it. I love the pretty dresses and the sweeping scenery and the strained intimacy between Rey and Kylo; it’s believably in character and I like how it’s asking what the best solution that could come out of everything would even be.

My gosh this is so beautiful! It does an excellent job of echoing the videos’ color palette while still creating its own vibe, and I just love how soft yet realistic the drawing style is.

I love how art can inspire other art. And man, those music videos were a ride. I wish they hadn’t killed off those characters after just two music videos; they were pretty compelling and it would’ve been cool to see more stories from them. But they sure can tell a story. 

Which, speaking of, it was interesting to see the elements that were reminiscent of Umbrella Academy in those storylines. I also watched a video about the struggles Gerard went through in the earlier days and I have a deeper appreciation for the connection he must have with Klaus. It’s fascinating to string all of this together. 

But yes I have many feelings for this gorgeous Party Poison <3
