I really enjoy @neil-gaiman’s Stance on what is ‘canon’ and not. The canon for the good omens novel is the book, and the canon for the good omens tv show is the tv show. In this vein, the author can’t deus ex machina more canon into an already published work via social media - once it is in the world, no matter who adds to it, even the original author, it becomes fanfiction or headcanon.

I like to imagine a random woman with no internet connection picking up good omens in her local book shop. She’s never going to see what Neil Gaiman posts on tumblr.com, so any attempt to add to canon is not universally acknowledged, and therefore not canon. A story should (and does in this case) stand on its own two feet, but still leave room for your imagination to feed into it and grow your own version of the story. To some degree, every person experiences the story slightly differently, including the authors variation, and creates a brand new headcanon. Although we get more specific information through the visual media of television, it still works the same way - each person experiences a slightly different story through their own perspective.

TL;DR: A good story shouldn’t require a follow up q&a, nor should it bombard you with every detail. Have confidence in your own power to imagine.
