So, let’s ignore Life and Death and whether or not I’d want Julie Black to sit on my face or not. Because, you know that meme about anon finally getting the appeal of Twilight? Yeah. But, again, not technically Twilight, so we’re ignoring the buff werewolf gal.

So what do I like about Twilight proper? I actually like its unique take on vampires. Finally listening to Dracula (thanks, Tumblr!) has helped me realize how much of the ‘modern’ vampire mythos is not even copying Dracula, but playing a shitty game of telephone with the story. And, of course, ignoring all the other interesting sources of inspiration, like so many different sources of folklore. And then you get Stephanie Meyer, who does something completely off the walls.

I know a lot of people like to make fun of the concept of vampires as sparkly superheroes. But I’d much rather see that than yet another person trying to write Bela Lugosi’s porn star counterpart.

If you asked me to envision a burdenbeast, my first guess would have been cow. Then horse; after all, people milk horses. Afterwards, I’d have started wracking my brain, trying to think of all the different animals people have used for pulling heavy loads, riding, and dairy, with the assumption that maybe we didn’t use them for all three of those tasks but the people of Terra did. Then I’d imagine some sort of fantasy animal.

Needless to say…

…megacerops was not in my list of possibilities. In fact, if you sat me down and told me I had to guess what a burdenbeast was to leave, I’d probably die in that seat.

Definitely not complaining, though. It’s a wonderful idea.
