Am I the only one who thinks that Severus didn't really play favorites? I say this because I read an article that convinced me, I mean, why don't Slytherin girls do their misdeeds in front of Severus? Where did he get the fandom that he has favoritism with Slytherin, because if we talk about favoritism Dumbledore if it is, what do you think?

Hi! I don’t think he necessarily played favorites. People saw his favor towards Draco and assumed he treated all of Slytherin like that.

For one: He never gave points. Ever. To anyone. He took points from his own house just as he did others but he never replenished them. Dumbledore, on the other hand, gave out points to Gryffindors like he gave out those lemon candies…

Two: People seem to have this inaccurate narrative that Snape took a BUNCH of points…Exhibit B of Snape haters not reading the books. If you go through each of the books and write down every point taken from professors, Minerva took A LOT more points than Severus…A LOT

Three: Let’s talk about punishment. In my eyes, playing favorites would mean he gave harsher punishments to other houses, right? No punishment Severus ever gave was

Traumatic

Emotionally damaging

Life threatening

Or just outright unnecessary

He gave fair detentions. But then you have fan favorite Minnie McGonagall who sent 11 year olds into the forbidden forest…with HAGRID 🫤 I mean, take a look at when Harry damn near killed Draco…Severus could have done a lot of things that he DIDNT do. All he did was give Harry detention every Saturday which meant he missed quidditch practice. That’s a LUXURY punishment for involuntary manslaughter 🤷🏽

Four: Even if he did, putting the DE stuff aside, what would be so wrong with him playing favorites with Slytherin? Nobody seems to give a shit about them so SOMEONE had to. They treated the Slytherin house like shit, and Gryffindor was the favorite child, there was no valid reason they’d need that extra protection

James Potter: Relentlessly bullied Severus for 7 years because he existed (his own words not mine). Sexually assaulted Severus in front of people. Threatened to hex a female (the girl he claimed to like) (“'LEAVE HIM ALONE!' Lily shouted. She had her own wand out now. James and Sirius eyed it warily. 'Ah, Evans, don't make me hex you,' said James earnestly.”). Tried to manipulate her into dating him (“'I will if you go out with me, Evans,' said James quickly. 'Go on ... go out with me and I'll never lay a wand on old Snivelly again.'”). When she finally agreed, he went behind her back and continued to be a bully. Bullied and hexed students “because they can”, used an illegal hex on a student, roamed around with a Dark Creature and endangered Villagers’ lives and laughed about the “near misses”

Sirius Black: He used Remus’ condition (werewolf) without his (Remus) knowledge as a weapon to almost kill Severus when they were 16. This could have resulted in two deaths (Remus and Severus). He choked Harry and broke Ron’s leg. He never tried to apologize or be civil with Severus in adult years (unlike Severus who actively tried to protect him (Sirius) in PoA)

Remus Lupin: Was a prefect and let his friends get away with hexing others, ignored his friends stripping, displaying, sexually assaulting, choking, publicly humiliating, traumatising, and torturing Severus, allowed his friends to free his Werewolf-self during the full moon and endangering Villagers’ lives, and then laugh about the “near misses” afterwards. He also was extremely irresponsible and didn’t take his wolfbane potion (that Severus made for him) which almost resulted in Severus, Harry, Ron, and Hermione being killed, possibly others if he wondered near the school.

Lily Evans: Ignores her duties as a Prefect and didn’t report the Marauders, flirts with her best friend’s bully right in front of him, abandons her best friend cause he fucked up once and left him to be stripped and traumatised for life, joins in on the bullying and mocks him for his poverty and insults him using a personal name his bullies used to mock him. Lets not forget about this gem of a scene from when Snape was being choked and hung upside down: “Lily, whose furious expression had twitched for an instant as though she was going to smile, said, 'Let him down!'”

Draco Malfoy: Do I even need to explain? Probably. Hurls slurs on a daily basis, abuses his power as a prefect and a member of The Inquisitorial Squad, joins Umbitch and helps her in torturing students, is blood-prejudiced.

Minerva: She was also a bitch to Neville. She sent him (Neville) into the Forbidden Forest full of man-eating Giant Spiders when he’s 11 and she traumatised him. He was even sobbing all night because of it. When Neville was 13, she forced him to stand outside in the corridor by the Fat Lady, for weeks, waiting for somebody to let him in... and when there’s a mass murderer on the loose who has been hanging around the Fat Lady with a great, big knife. She also tells him, in front of the entire class, not to let Durmstrang see how incredibly useless he is. She put the entire Slytherin house in cells despite the fact there were only three kids with the mark and the rest of the houses went back to fight in the final fight agaisnt Voldemort´s forces. She took WAY more points then Severus did and if anyone says otherwise, I have receipts.

Isn't it fascinating how snaters absolutely love Snape's backstory although they cannot admit it because they decided to turn him into a stereotypical villain?

They love that Snape was a poor half-blooded kid. So they take that away from him and ascribe it to Lupin, even though nothing says he was poor in his childhood, while they turn Snape into a new Draco Malfoy.

They love Snape's redemption, his grooming into the DEs, his changement from Death Eater to repentent double agent of the Light. So they take that away from him and ascribe this backstory to Regulus, even though he was clearly a wizard supremacist who reverred Voldemort and doesn't show an ounce of changement from his bigoted mindset, who never contacted Dumbledore although he should have, and whose single, last-minute action of betrayal was utterly useless. As for Snape, he cannot be another double agent, so they erase his story.

They love Snape's elegance and skills as the Half-Blood Prince and Hogwart's prodigious Potions Master. So they take that away from him and ascribe them to James Porker, on the basis that a no-name like Snape cannot be superior to the pureblooded descendant of someone who invented shampoo. Porker becomes the Half-Blood Prince, even though nothing about him is half-blooded or Prince, while Snape becomes a thief.

Admit it, you admire Snape.
