yo, you ever think about how dylan's extended thoughts about picking and choosing which parts of yourself to bring to the table when entering different social situations ( and one isolated thing doesn't encompass the full scope of a person ) actually heavily complements emma's stance on how everyday acting isn't necessarily faking or being dishonest, it's just what feels necessary to please the masses and maximize the ease &. success with which we navigate social interactions. it's us making ourselves palatable for both our benefit and the benefit of those around us. you ever think about how this was probably a factor in why dylan liked ryan so much, how ryan was this one individual at camp who had so much certainty in his own self, didn't care about making adjustments to suit outward perception, didn't care if he was likable or not ( ironically earning him the rep of mr . brooding n' mysterious, hottest guy at camp by a landslide )

i took a nap but . . . dylan loses his hand and has to walk it off for a couple hours, can't really stop &. fully process the shock or the reality, and then he winds up alone with one person that he doesn't have to waste energy trying to impress and doesn't have to worry about being judged by, and one of the first trains of thought available to him is the very real and very scary possibility that this life - changing injury is gonna make him less socially appealing, less romantically wanted . . . dylan the man that you areeeeeeeeeee
