Othello

Выдающийся негритянский актер Айра Олдридж обладал бешеным темпераментом. Его коронной ролью был Отелло. В финальной сцене он так "накалялся", что у него изо рта шла пена, а глаза наливались кровью. Исполнительницы роли Дездемоны панически боялись играть с ним.

Известный театрал Стахович спросил Олдриджа, как прошли его гастроли в Москве с Никулиной-Касицкой — Дездемоной. Олдридж ответил, что она очень нервничала и добавил: "Все эти слухи сильно преувеличины. Я сыграл Отелло более трехсот раз. За это время задушил всего трех актрис, зарезал, кажется, одну. Согласитесь, что процент небольшой. Не из-за чего было так волноваться вашей московской Дездемоне".

The outstanding Black actor Ira Aldridge had a furious temperament. His crowning role was Othello. In the final scene, he was so "heated" that he was foaming at the mouth and his eyes were bloodshot. The performers of the role of Desdemona were terrified to play with him.
