Summary: You’re a cocktail waitress in a high end nightclub and you’ve been mutually crushing on one of the bartenders. Tonight, one of your customers oversteps boundaries and when Jungkook gets involved, you’re ready to toss your ‘no dating co-workers’ policy out the window.

Being a cocktail waitress came with few perks and several more headaches. The money was great and customers were typically pretty laid back in your club but having rude, inappropriate, drunk patrons every so often was inevitable and tonight was one of those nights. 

“Over here, sweetheart,” You hear the head of one of your tables holler at you as you’re busy delivering another patron’s drinks.

You roll your eyes, plastering on a friendly face as you weave through the crowd with a tray full of drinks. The club is packed tonight and you’ve been absolutely slammed running drinks between tables but the money at the end of the night will make up for the pain in the soles of your feet from sauntering around in platform heels for hours on end. 

When you approach him, he notes the irritation in your mask and has the audacity to patronize you. “Aw, don’t be like that,” He whines loudly, tipping his beer back and draining the bottle before speaking again. “Be a good girl and bring me another beer, huh? I’ll be sure to give you a real big tip, baby.” 

Another rich jerk who thinks he can say whatever he wants.

You scoff loudly but the noise of the club drowns it and you make your way back to the bar, tapping your pen irritably against the counter while the bartender finishes serving someone. Jungkook turns around to see you standing across the bar, absolutely fuming, and his smile falters as he walks over. 

“What’s wrong, angel?” He furrows his brows, following the direction of the pen you flick over your shoulder toward the table you’d just left. 

“Big shot and his friends over there are seriously getting on my nerves,” You roll your eyes, picking a cherry from over the counter to pop into your mouth before Jungkook can stop you. You’re giggling in delight when he narrows his eyes at you playfully. 

“Quit stealing my cherries you little thief,” He chuckles, snapping a wet rag in your direction and just barely missing.

Cooper and Jeongguk lowkey hate each other, but your boyfriend loves you so much that he puts up with your cat’s antics.

Jeongguk calls Cooper random nicknames – usually "the demon’s spawn" – while Cooper enjoys annoying him in the most inconvenient of times by knocking items off the shelf whenever your boyfriend's in the middle of an important zoom meeting just because he feels like doing it.

It’s also been part of his routine to look for your cat before you get home from work or else god forbid that you cry when you come home to a missing cat. Because if there’s one thing that Jeongguk hates in the world the most, that would be seeing you cry.

If he could wrap you in a bubble just to keep you safe he would but he also knows that would be too overbearing of him to do. As much as he wants to be that kind of boyfriend, he respects your boundaries and your need to be independent.  

Cooper has a habit of running away whenever he feels like it and then returning home when you’re done crying so much from worrying. He no longer stays in the fire exit or the complex’ rooftop, and the construction site near your building has already finished so he’s moved on with that as well. Finding him is harder these days which is why your worry doubles and all your poor boyfriend could do is console you and scour your area for your troublesome cat.

You spoil your cat so much, showering him with treats and toys he barely cares about. Right now, Jeongguk’s forehead is creased, gaze throwing daggers at a small, fluffy black cat with yellow eyes, who obviously looks uninterested in him. The black cat in question, what he likes to refer to as a pocket demon, is none other than your beloved cat Cooper, enjoying his time in random trashed boxes. 

Your boyfriend sighs as he scratches his brow with his thumb, “Y/N buys you so much unnecessary shit and all your ungrateful ass wants is trash?”

Cooper meows when Jeongguk picks him up with one arm. Looking at the feline, he points at it and sternly reprimands him as if it were a real person, “You have a wife waiting for you at home. This isn’t very husband of you, Coops.”

Looking at his watch, he sighs with relief, “We’re lucky she isn’t home yet.”

Moving in with Jeongguk was such a breeze.

Your friends told you how much of an adjustment it would be to cohabitate with a partner but that wasn’t the case for you and Jeongguk. If anything, everything has been nothing but exciting. You work a nine-to-five office job while he works from home, drawing panels for a known comic book publisher.

You used to come home wondering whether or not you’d come home to a missing cat or not, but lately, Cooper seems to enjoy staying at home. Nowadays, you come home to your boyfriend’s cooking filling up the whole unit. Admittedly, Jeongguk cooks better than you and you’re not one to complain or argue whenever he offers to cook for the day. After all, your boyfriend loves spoiling you. 

Jeongguk doesn’t particularly hate nor does he like being called Koo or Koobear, but because it’s you who calls him by his special nickname, he lets it slide. His friends would even joke around about it, saying that they’d seen him black in and out of being drunk but never a simp over a girl. But then again, you’re not a regular kind of girl. At least not to him.

You give him a sense of stability and home that he wants to get his shit together like a proper adult because of how much of an inspiration and driving force your existence is to him. If that’s no love then he doesn’t know what else to call it. 

He used to be the kind of boyfriend some would like to call a bit nonchalant. In his defense, he’s never been in a proper relationship when all he’s ever had were situationships in gray situations. 

Jeongguk doesn’t know what kind of change ticked his switch, but he finds himself wanting to do things for you because seeing you comfortable makes him happy. The more he spends time with you, the more he realizes that his love language isn’t only touching but also acts of service.

And this was only solidified when his pregnant cat, Sage, was about to give birth at the most inconvenient time of the day. 

“Oh my god, oh my god,” you frantically paced back and forth to the living room, flailing your hands to fan yourself. “What are we going to do, Koo?”

While you are busy panicking, he comforts you while gathering all the things he needs, “Baby, it’s fine. Just sit by the couch, I’ll handle this.”

He had prepared himself mentally for this. Months of researching in case something unfortunate happens (like the nearby vet being closed for the holidays) and he was right. And so, he did what he had to do because you were too frantic to move and help around.

“But what if something goes wrong,” you look at him with glassy eyes.

Cupping your face, he gently grazes a thumb over your cheek, “I got this, okay?”

You gulped the lump in your throat and nodded with hesitation.

'Koobear knows what to do. He always does,' you tell yourself while trying to calm down.

Hours seemed like an eternity watching your boyfriend’s cat push out a litter of kittens one by one. You watched as Jeongguk wiped the sweat off his forehead with the back of his hand as he helped clean each kitten. Without realizing it, you fell asleep in the middle of it all, probably from the exhaustion of panicking and waiting. 

To be fair, Sage did give birth at four in the morning.

Jeongguk slowly nudges you, making your tired eyes flutter. You look at your tired boyfriend smiling at you, “Wanna come say hi to the kittens?”

Your eyes immediately widen in excitement. Quickly, you rush to the small basket where the kittens and Sage were that Jeongguk had warmly set up for them. “Oh my gosh, they’re sooo cute!”

All tiredness has melted away from him as he watches you coo at the litter.

You were so excited with the kittens that you named them one by one without even asking your boyfriend if he had any names in mind, “The orange one will be, Kenobi. The one with black spots could be, Maul. And the black one that looks like Cooper could be Vader.”

He doesn’t completely agree with your name choices, but what can he do? You look way too happy with the names he couldn’t bring himself to say disagree.

Jeongguk smiles and kisses the side of your head, “Whatever makes you happy, love.”

As soon as he hears Cooper’s soft meows, he quickly turns to dad mode. Sternly looking at the black cat, he clicks his tongue and shakes his head, “We need to have a serious conversation now. Man to man.”

He carries Cooper to the kitchen and props him on the countertop. He wasn’t sure if a cat would understand what he was saying, but he hopes it does because he read somewhere that cats are supposedly smart. 

“Kiss the streets goodbye because you can’t randomly leave the house anymore. You have kids you have to look after now,” your cat meows at a very serious Jeongguk. “I still think you’re not good enough for my Sage but what can I do? My cat and girlfriend love you, and you make them happy.”

“Don’t get too comfortable with me, though. I'm watching you,” He boops the cat’s nose before putting it down.

Unbeknownst to him, you stifle your chuckles while eavesdropping on their one-sided conversation.

The next day, he finds himself drawing a long, disappointed sigh while both of you look for, yet again, a missing black cat.

“Why–why does he always leave?” You say in between hiccups, “Am I not a good cat mom?”

“Baby, don’t say that.” Jeongguk wipes your tears with his thumb and kisses your forehead. “You’re, like, the best–Oh. Welcome home, asshole.” He says with sarcasm while looking straight at your cat.

Lo and behold, he comes home of his own will.

You immediately whip your head, following your boyfriend’s gaze by the door where a dirty Cooper sits unbothered with a leaf in his mouth. The cat strides to the sofa, except his body is walking towards Jeongguk’s direction.

Cooper jumps on the empty space beside him and places the dried leaf on his lap. It meows and rubs his head against a confused Jeongguk, “Were you exorcised or what?” 

You chuckle at your boyfriend’s reaction, “He’s giving you a gift, Koo.”

Jeongguk blinks multiple times, "...Very sus." Looking even more confused, his brows are furrowed while his mouth is agape, “Okay...? What for?”

“Probably because you helped deliver the babies, silly,” you leaned closer and left a kiss on his cheek. You smile warmly at the sight of your boyfriend scratching your cat’s chin as it cozies up on his lap. “At least he didn’t give you a dead rat."

You reached over to scratch behind Cooper's ear affectionately, "He used to give me one every other week back in the day.”

“That’s rancid,” Jeongguk laughs with a scrunched nose, resting his head against yours fondly.

A random realization popped into his head; Maybe he and Cooper were on the same boat after all – Him thinking that Cooper is no good for his beloved cat while Cooper thought the same of him with you. 

Jeongguk leans against the door frame, arms crossed with a smirk as he watches you hang the last ornament on the Christmas tree. Feeling as if you were being watched, you looked over your shoulders to find your boyfriend watching you.

You beamed at him like a child and pointed at the ornament you just hung, “Come here, Koobear!”

He walks to the tree and squints his eyes at the ornament. It was a small frame with a picture of both of you and all the cats. He grins widely when his eyes move to the bottom and reads the handwriting that says ‘Jeon family.’

“Do you like it?” You ask with glistening eyes.

“Like it? Hell no,” he kisses the top of your head, making you giggle. “I fucking love it.”  

He instantly takes a picture of the decor and posts it on Instagram with a caption that says:

Funnily enough, the framed decor was a hit amongst your friends and family who would visit your home.

Hoseok in particular notes how he never in a million years would hear the Jeon Jeongguk talk softly, while all Yoongi could do was alter his gaze between you and your boyfriend, confused as to how you got his friend to agree with a sappy nickname.

Yoongi whispers, “Koobear, huh?”

He and Hoseok snorted as soon as Jeongguk threw death glares at them.
