In almost all situations, I tend to state: "There's a metaphor here somewhere."

Disturb us, Lord, When we are too well pleased with ourselves, When our dreams have come true because we have dreamed too little, When we arrived safely Because we sailed too close to the shore. Disturb us, Lord, when With the abundance of things we possess We have lost our thirst For the waters of life; Having fallen in love with life, We have ceased to dream of eternity And in our efforts to build a new earth, We have allowed our vision Of the new Heaven to dim. Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly, To venture on wider seas Where storms will show your mastery; Where losing sight of land, We shall find the stars. We ask You to push back The horizons of our hopes; And to push into the future In strength, courage, hope, and love.

This amazing image--captured by NASA cameras during a launch last week and flagged by Universe Today--has not been altered in any way, and it is my new favorite thing. Just look at how high that goddamn frog is!

sometimes, it is what it is and nothing more

I've noticed lately my own prolific tendency to ascribe great meaning to things that may not necessarily have any purpose other than to be what they are. I connect items, places, and moments to specific people and memories. It's getting to the point where I have to mentally kick myself all throughout a conversation to quit searching for patterns and connections to my own life and instead, let things be as they are and appreciate the novelty and simplicity in them outside of myself and what I know and have experienced.

I don't know when this habit started, and I'm sure I thought it was cool that I finally learned to remember things better and could see a pattern in the bigger picture, but it's making life difficult, and it's hard to break, I feel self-centered, and I'm not exactly sure how to banish it or how to address it.
