Ding. Ding. Ding. 

You sit up in bed, smiling to yourself. 

The time was midnight, on December 19th, and it was now officially your birthday. Your phone was ringing with the sweet sound of everyone’s birthday messages coming through. 

You weren’t usually one to care for birthday well wishes, but when it comes from the people you love, it warms your heart and makes you feel that much more loved and wanted. Normally you’d be spending the night with them, probably at one of their places, enjoying a surprise party that they would’ve thrown for you, just like they had for the last two years you’d all been friends, but it was the last week of your winter exams, and you were all sleep deprived enough.

Reaching out to your bedside table, you pick up your phone to go through some of the messages. The groupchat you had with your friends was filled with quick birthday greetings:
