“Man, I really just bombed that exam,” Kaminari groaned, burying his face in his hands.

“It’s okay, Mina and Sero are probably going to join you in your failure,” you teased, earning yourself some glares from Sero and Mina. Kirishima laughed and you looked at him. “Don’t laugh too hard, Eijirou, you’re not that far ahead either!”

Kaminari, Sero, and Mina took their chances to make fun of Kirishima this time, the boys fooling around while Mina rolled her eyes. The sun was beginning to set as you and your friends waited outside of U.A. before walking back home.

“Where the hell is Katsuki?” You muttered.

Mina heard you over the sound of the boys arguing and put her arm on your shoulder. “Aw, look at you worrying about your boyfriend.”

She made kissy faces at you and you rolled your eyes, pushing her face away. “You know it’s not like that. He just seems down lately.”

Mina raised her brow. “Really? If I’m being honest, I haven’t really noticed. Then again, you’ve always been observant and see things I would never even think about noticing.”

You sighed, shrugging your shoulders as Kirishima waved at you and Mina. He showed you his phone, revealing messages between him and Bakugou. “Bakugou said that he’s going to see us tomorrow. Apparently he has to talk to a teacher about one of his assignments.”

“Alright, come on let’s go home,” Kaminari said as the group began walking away.

You stayed back. “I think I’m going to wait for him out here.”

“Are you sure? I can wait with you if you want,” Mina suggested.

You shook your head, smiling. “I just don’t want to leave him alone so I’m going to annoy him a little. I’ll see you guys tomorrow!”

The four of them waved good-bye to you as they walked away. You turned back around, leaning against the gates opening up to U.A. You had a feeling in your gut that was telling you to stay back and wait for Bakugou and low and behold, Bakugou came walking down the entrance. When he saw you, you could practically hear him groaning despite the amount of distance between the two of you.

As he came closer, you pointed your finger at him. “I knew it, you’re trying to avoid us!”

Bakugou rolled his eyes as he continued walking. You caught up to him, walking beside him. “Whatever. If you knew I was avoiding you shits, why’re you here?”

“‘Cause I’m worried about you,” you said truthfully.

Bakugou scoffed. “I’m not a kid, I don’t need you to fucking worry about me.”

“Just because you don’t need me to, doesn’t mean I’ll just stop.” You stood in front of him, causing him to stop walking. “You need to talk to someone about the Kamino incident.”

Bakugou’s eyes widened slightly before he gained his composure once more. “There’s nothing to talk about.”

This time it was your turn to roll your eyes. “There’s nothing wrong with feeling upset about what happened. No one blames you or thinks you’re in the wrong.”

There was a long pause before the corners of Bakugou’s lips turned upwards into a small smile. He placed his hand onto your shoulder as he walked forward. You stood dazed and confused before being able to recollect yourself and catch up with him.

“Where are you going?”

“I’m walking you home. It’s only been a few weeks since what happened to your mom and I’m still going to follow you around to make sure you’re not gonna do anything stupid.”

***

The walk was quiet, but it wasn’t awkward. Bakugou seemed to be deep in thought and you couldn’t help but study and observe Bakugou, attempting to decipher what was going on through his head. His hands were in his pockets and his lips were almost like they were permanently down turned. Once you got to your house, you could see your dad peeking through the window and sigh in relief once he saw you. Bakugou looked over there and looked back at you. “Your dad must’ve been worried about you. You need to take care of yourself for him.”

You sighed. “I know and I am taking care of myself now.”

Bakugou nodded, walking in the other direction to go to his own home. He lifted his hand to you to say goodbye. You stood in front of your driveway and called out to him. “Katsuki!”

Bakugou turned around and narrowed his brows at you. “For the last goddamn time, you’re the only one I know who calls me by my first name and I swear to god—“

You cut him off quickly, knowing he was going to continue rambling on. “I’m going to beat you.”

Bakugou was taken aback. “What?”

“I’m going to beat you and become the number one hero. I’m going to beat you, Midoriya, and Todoroki.” You paused. “You know what that means?”

“What?”

“It means that you’re still a hero to me. What happened in Kamino wasn’t your fault and that shouldn’t be a reason for you to want to stop pursuing your goal. You’re still the same hotheaded Bakugou Katsuki who is loud, driven, and the one who saved me a few weeks ago. You’re a hero, Katsuki.”

Bakugou’s eyes widened but he turned back around so you couldn’t see his expression. “Whatever. Go inside, your dad’s waiting.”

And after all this time, you always wonder what kind of expression he had on his face then.

***

Your eyes shot open and you sat up immediately in bed. You rubbed your eyes, groaning. It was a dream… But it also wasn’t. It genuinely happened and you can recall that day so easily despite how long ago it was.

The door in your room opened and Mina sighed in relief. “Thank god you’re awake, I thought I had to wake you up.”

She threw a few envelopes at you, indicating that it was some mail that you got. You went through them, most of them being bills. However, one of them was from a famous agency you had heard of. Many old heroes were signed under this agency and you immediately ripped open the seal.  The letter was addressed specifically to you.

Dear _____,

I hope you’ve been well and that this urgent letter reaches you. I’m going to get straight to the point; I know that you’re the number one hero and that you deserve to be involved in every important villain issue there is.

But, I don’t want you to interfere in any issue related to Ground Zero unless we need your help.

The reason for this is that I’m afraid your personal connection to him will make you biased and refrain you from stopping him if the chance that you meet him ever comes again in the future.

I know you’re a strong hero, which is why you’re number one, but my agency will take care of him if needed.

I understand that this is maybe unfair and I may be intruding, but I’m doing what is best for the world and for you. I’m asking you to step back, not forcing you to.

I hope you can trust me to do this.

—Hawks

You sighed, shoving the letter in your pockets and getting up to get ready. Once you were done, you checked your phone to get a text from Natsuya to stop by his place. You went into the kitchen as Mina set a plate of breakfast for you.

“You look worn out,” Mina commented, sitting down in front of you.

“I just have a feeling something’s going on.” You sighed, eating the food Mina made you. “I’m stopping by Natsuya’s before going to the agency today.”

“Okay.” Mina narrowed her brows in confusion at you but didn’t bother to question you further. “You’ve been at Yamashita’s place more than you’ve been here. Are you sure there isn’t something else going on?”

Mina nudged your arm and you swatted at her. “Absolutely not. I just want to hang out with my boyfriend. Sue me.” You got up to put your plate away, grabbing your coat from the rack in the process.

“But you’re hanging out with him at his apartment. Where his bed is.”

“I’m not going there for his ‘bed.’” You rolled your eyes at your best friend, bending down to tie your shoelaces.

“Hm, then again you don’t need a bed, you can have sex pretty much anywh—“

“Okay, see you later, Mina!” You exclaimed, quickly leaving the apartment only to hear Mina’s snickers as you left.

***

You knocked on the door, patiently waiting for your boyfriend to answer. Once he did, Natsuya’s face broke out into a smile as he was genuinely happy to see his girlfriend.

“Hey, you,” he said, kissing your forehead as he opened the door wider to let you in.

You smiled, walking in and he closed the door. “Why’d you call me here?”

“What? A man can’t see his girlfriend or is that a crime?” Natsuya joked and you playfully rolled your eyes at him. “I just wanted to check up on you before you and I headed out for work. I have a feeling that everything is going to escalate from here, especially since the League hasn’t done anything and it’s been three weeks now.”

You plopped down onto his sofa, letting out a loud sigh. It was evident that something was bound to happen and lately, it felt as if you were just sitting back and waiting for something to happen. It didn’t sit well with you that you couldn’t really do anything during this time. But there wasn’t anything that you could do, for now at least.

“You’re right, which is why I’m glad you called me over. I need to show you something.” Natsuya sat down beside you as you pulled out the letter from Hawks from your pocket. You handed it over to him, allowing him to read it over briefly. “What do you think about it?”

“If you want my honest opinion, I’m happy you’re not involved with all of this anymore,” Natsuya said, earning a sigh from you. You knew how he would react but nevertheless you wanted to see for yourself what he would say. Natsuya chuckled at your expression. “Don’t give me that look. You get reckless when anything Ground Zero related is called and it’s because you’re biased. Otherwise, you’re a great hero. But I’m glad Hawks stepped in and is taking care of this.”

You groaned. “I know but I’m still worried. What if I can help but it’s too late or if someone gets hurt instead of me?”

Natsuya wrapped an arm around you, rubbing your shoulders. “_____, Hawks is an amazing hero. He was number two back when we were still in high school and he’s still strong. Have some more trust in him, I’m sure he’ll have everything under control.”

You nodded, knowing that he was right. You felt guilty for not being able to decide to deal with Bakugou by trying desperately to understand that he’s not a villain and by trying to reprimand him because of his villainous actions. Natsuya sighed, kissing your head. “Don’t beat yourself up over this. I know you want to help but you don’t have to save every single person in the whole world. You’re not the only hero here. There are so many heroes, your colleagues, who are here for you and will support you.”

You nodded once more, wrapping your arms around his torso. “I know. Thanks, Tsuya.”

“Well, as much as I’d love to stay here like this, we’ve still got to go to work.” He patted your back as he got up, extending his hand out for you. You took it and he pulled you up, the two of you leaving to go to your respective jobs.

***

“It’s finally over!” Jirou cheered loudly, raising her arms into the air.

You sighed, rubbing the sweat from your forehead. You were asked to patrol areas that were considered “critical areas” that were most likely going to be attacked by the League by the Hero Public Safety Commission, the center that is run my non-heroes and it is involved in investigating the most criminally dangerous cases. Jirou was also in the area so she decided to tag along and help you out, just in case there was a scenario in which the League actually did attack.

“Are you headed home?” You asked.

Jirou nodded, stretching her arms out. “Yeah, this has been one of the longest days of my life. I’ve never felt so worked up. The League really needs to be stopped.” You nodded in agreement.

The two of you made your way back to the Commission Center, having to send in reports of what you had seen and the areas that you patrolled. The two of you waved to passerby’s, especially to the children who were ecstatic to have run into two major pros. Your phone rang in your pocket, continuing to vibrate uncontrollably as you fished it out. It was from the police station.

“Hello?”

“_____?” A female voice asked from the other line. “This is Tsubaki from the station. Yamashita’s really busy right now but he wanted to make sure to make me tell you that you need to get to the Commission Center immediately.”

You began to worry. “Yes, I’m on my way now. Did something happen?”

“It’s awful, please hurry. Bring as many people as you can, I don’t know how much is left of it.” Tsubaki hung up.

Jirou read your facial expression. “That doesn’t look good.”

“We have to get to the Commission Center now!” You exclaimed, shoving your phone back in your pocket. You began running towards the Center, Jirou following suit. “Something’s going on there, and we have to check it out. Call as many pros as you can, I’ll do the same.” Jirou wearily nodded, wanting to know what’s going on just as much as you want to.

Dear god please let everything be okay…

***

The bar was quieter than usual, only the bartender keeping Bakugou company. But he liked it that way, finding the crowds of people who usually come to be intrusive and bothersome. Thankfully there weren’t any women trying to hit on him like most nights as they try and become the girlfriend of the most wanted man alive.

“Man, you didn’t have to yell at everyone to leave like that. You know it’s bad for my business,” the bartender, Watari, complained.

Bakugou rolled his eyes, setting his glass down on the table. “Oh, please, I’ll pay you triple my fee if you quit your bitching.”

Watari laughed, being used to his number one customer’s prickly attitude after the years he’s spent with Bakugou. Watari was the only man Bakugou fully trusted, someone he turned to when he was asked to abandon his family, friends, and his old life. Watari was also the only one who’s aware of Bakugou’s true identity, understanding that he had to become a villain to help out the pros.

Watari studied Bakugou, the now grown man that he saw as his own son. He set down the glass he was wiping. “You know every time I look at you I keep seeing that hopeless kid that came to me all those years ago.”

Bakugou scoffed. “Tch, I wasn’t hopeless. And I didn’t come to you, you saw me and came to me.”

“Yeah, ‘cause I’ve never seen a kid with such a defeated look in his eye.” Watari chuckled at the memory, running a hand threw his gray hair. “I know the pros are the good guys, and I do trust them. I’ll just never understand what they were thinking asking a child to give up his dreams and his friends and family to help them out.”

“It’s not like they fucking forced me, I agreed to it, you know.”

“I know but I can’t stop thinking about that look on your face. You had to say goodbye to your classmates, to your dream of becoming the number one hero. Hell, if you ask me, you basically handed your dream over to (H/N) without any fight at all! And don’t get me started on you having to abandon your parents, your mother was pissed when you just disappeared all of a sudden.”

Bakugou’s lips turned upward, staring down at his glass as he reminisced with Watari. “That old hag was ready to fucking kill me, calling radio stations and news channels to find me. Must of surprised her when three years later her only son ‘murdered’ the leader of the League to become the leader himself.”

Watari laughed, shaking his head as he recalled the numerous amount of times he saw Bakugou Mitsuki stampeding through the streets to find her son. “You think you’ll ever talk to her? Once you’re done being the bad guy and can go back to your normal life?”

Bakugou sighed, leaning back on the table and staring at the ceiling. “That’s the thing, Pops, I don’t think I can go back. Not to the old hag, to my friends, to being a hero. I haven’t heard from my folks in fucking years, but I don’t blame them since they don’t know the truth. The minute I accepted this job, I knew that I wouldn’t be treated as a kid pursuing heroism like I was before. I’ve been in this shit for over seven years now, no one’s gonna accept me with open arms like that.”

“You’re wrong.” Bakugou turned his head to face him, confused. Watari smiled. “(H/N) would accept you. She’s been accepting you for all these years and she hasn’t been quiet about it either. Also, don’t forget that you have me, kid.”

Bakugou smirked as Watari patted him on the shoulder. “Yeah, it seems like you and that shitty girl are the only ones who believe in me.”

Bakugou turned his head back to the ceiling, closing his eyes and taking a breath in. He stills remembers being a broken down mess, agonizing over the decision he had made. Although he didn’t regret the decision he made, the initial reaction to being given the offer by Hawks was one that he could never forget. He was a high schooler, a teenager, a kid being asked to work with adults to help them out. He was a kid asked to become a double agent and he had to sacrifice everything for it, too. But he didn’t regret it. The minute he got abducted by the League during the Kamino incident, he knew he wasn’t the same fifteen-year-old U.A. student anymore. No matter how many times anyone told him otherwise, Bakugou couldn’t help but blame himself for the incident. And no matter how hard he tried to conceal how he was actually feeling, mostly everyone bought his act, believing that he was fine, believing that he was a tough kid that could put up with the aftermath of the incident.

That is, everyone except you. You saw straight through him and didn’t hesitate to call him out on his bullshit either.

As much as he had missed seeing his friends and his parents, he couldn’t describe the loneliness he felt when he realized he wouldn’t have the shitty girl who he saved from the rooftop of U.A. High nagging him everywhere he went. He couldn’t describe the feeling inside of him when he first saw your face after ten years those few weeks ago in that flower shop. He couldn’t describe the relief he felt when he heard you spew out your drunken yet supportive words for him. You always believed in him, you always cheered for him, and here you were ten years later continuing to believe in him.

Bakugou opened his eyes, shaking his head. It happened again; he couldn’t stop thinking about you.

His fingers subconsciously, like it was practice now, typed your name in the internet browser on his phone. He looked at the images that popped up with the search result. He internally wanted to puke at the picture of you beside your shitty police boyfriend on the day you were announced as the number one hero. What a fucking tool…

“Katsuki.” Watari broke Bakugou away from his thoughts. “Turn the volume up.”

Bakugou looked over to what he was looking at, getting concerned over the news reporter covering what was read as “BREAKING NEWS.” He turned the volume up.

“This is breaking news and I’m coming to you live from the Hero Public Safety Commission. As you can see, the building is completely burnt down, exploded from the inside. Police have been investigating all night, concluding that the explosions from the inside were not caused by notoriously wanted criminal, Ground Zero,” the woman on the screen said to the camera.

Bakugou stood up from his seat, his eyes widening. He had no idea what was going on. “What the fuck?”

“Officials have confirmed that the villain known as Kurogiri was involved in the attack. However, as he is a part of the League of Villains, he does not have a fire type quirk that would cause such an explosion. Officials have also confirmed that there was another figure involved in this atrocious attack, concluding that it was not villains Ground Zero or Dabi.

“To make matters even worse, the only pro hero that was able to get to the scene before all of this unfolded was Hawks. Kurogiri and the second individual involved managed to hurt Hawks so badly that he is currently critically injured and is in intensive care. Officials have confirmed that they do not know when or even if Hawks will be able to recover from this—“

Watari turned the television off, looking over at Bakugou who was absolutely furious over the events. Kurogiri had worked independently, taking orders from someone else, most likely the true leader of the League, and had hurt Bakugou’s actual boss. “Katsuki… Don’t do anything irrational.”

Bakugou grabbed his coat, slamming the bar door open. “I’m gonna kill that Warp Gate fucker.”

“_____!” Mina called out from down the street, running towards you. She clapped her hands on your shoulders. “Thank goodness you’re alright!”

You blinked, trying to snap out of the temporary daze you were put into. “Yeah, I’m fine. Did… Did you and Tsuyu get those civilians out of the way?”

Mina nodded. “A few people got burned so Tsuyu escorted them to the hospital with the paramedics. Kyouka’s at the station right now to report what happened.”

“Oh, that’s good. At least everyone’s alright.”

“Mhm.” Mina pulled out her phone. “Speaking of station, Yamashita-kun called me a few minutes ago. He said he’s been trying to call you but you didn’t answer.”

“Oh, um, my phone must’ve been turned off.” You rubbed the nape of your neck. You didn’t know how to tell Mina what had happened just a few mere minutes ago.

Mina eyed you. “Yamashita-kun’s in the hospital.”

Your eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. “What?! Is he okay?!”

Mina nodded. “He’s not hurt. He’s just visiting the burn victims and questioning them.”

You sighed in relief. “Oh, thank god. I’ll go over there now. Might as well report to the Chief of Police what happened on my end.”

“Okay. I’ll see you later. I’m gonna go check on the apartment!”

***

“Hi, do you know where I can find Yamashita-san?” You asked the secretary at the front desk of hospital.

She nodded, gesturing down the hallway. You thanked her, moving quickly through the hall until you laid eyes on him. “Natsuya!”

Natsuya turned his head at the sound of your voice, dismissing whoever he was talking to and ran towards you. He threw his arms around you, pulling you close to him. “Thank god you’re alright.” He pulled away, cupping your face. “You’re not hurt, are you?”

You smiled softly, shaking your head. “I’m fine, I promise.”

“If something had happened to you, I don’t what the hell I would’ve done.”

“I’m fine, Natsu, I really am.” You looked around pulling him into an empty hospital room. “I actually wanted to… talk to you about what happened today.”

Natsuya nodded, taking in your uneasy stature. “What happened? Was it the League?”

You nodded, twiddling yours thumbs and looking down to the floor, a habit Natsuya knew all too well that you’d do when you knew you had done something wrong or felt uneasy. “Dabi used his quirk and set the whole street in flames.”

Natsuya stared at you, waiting for you to continue. “Kurogiri was there, too. He helped them escape.”

“Them?”

“Kat… Katsuki showed up, too.”

“Katsuki?’ Natsuya’s eyes widened in realization. “As in, Bakugou Katsuki?”

“Y-Yeah.”

Natsuya gritted his teeth. “The hell’d that bastard show up for after hiding all these years?”

“He didn’t do anything. Dabi was the only one who did the collateral damage.”

“Then why’d Bakugou show up in the first place.”

You lifted your head up. “He said he wanted to see me.”

“To see you?”

You nodded. “He was just talking to me really. And I confronted him for leaving all of a sudden all those years ago.”

Natsuya furrowed his brows at you. “And it didn’t occur to you to even try and reprimand him? All you did was talk? _____, he’s the most wanted man in the world and you let him walk away?”

“It’s not like that!” You exclaimed, sighing afterwards. “Natsuya, how do you know he committed the crimes of the kidnappings and murdered Shigaraki?”

“What’re you–”

“I mean there’s no evidence that he–”

“Are you seriously trying to defend him?” Natsuya looked at you in utter disbelief and disgust.

Your hands balled up into fists from frustration. “No offense, but the police department has no hard or real evidence that shows that Katsuki’s guilty of those charges.”

“The hell’s wrong with you? We have witnesses that reported what they saw and the autopsy of Shigaraki’s body showed signs of burnings that damaged his body.”

“Katsuki’s quirk is Explosion. If he really killed Shigaraki, he’d be in dismantled into a bunch of pieces. He wouldn’t be intact.”

“So what, you’re a forensic pathologist now?”

“No, I’m trying to help, Natsuya!” You stared at your boyfriend in frustration. “I    know he’s the biggest asshole I’ve ever met, but he was my friend. And I have this gut feeling that’s telling me that he’s innocent… of those weighty charges at least.”

Natsuya scoffed. “Well, for your information, I’m gonna stick by the law, not your gut.” He pushed open the door aggressively. “You think because you have a quirk you’re almighty, but you’re not shit. The fact that you’d even question the law is repulsive.”

“Natsuya!” You called out, looking down the hallway, watching as he walked away from you. He took one more glance at you, scoffed, and opened the door to the victim’s room.

You sighed, rubbing your face with your hands. There was something about this whole situation that just didn’t settle well with you. As much as you loved Natsuya, one thing you never understood was his blind admiration for the law. Although law and order is crucial to develop a working society, blindly believing police officers with everything that they do is a little… absurd.

You were contemplating whether or not to go after him again, deciding not to once you felt your phone ring. “Hello?”

“Okay, so this is gonna sound a little weird so bear with me.” You could hear Mina sighing loudly from the other end. “You know how Dabi burned up our whole street?”

“Yeah.”

“The only buildings that are left untouched are the flower shop… and our apartment complex?”

“What?” You asked in disbelief. You were almost certain that you and Mina would have to soon go house hunting after today’s events.

“I know right! Every other building is completely burnt down. Why would Dabi leave these buildings alone?”

“I… I don’t know, Mina. Anyways, eat dinner without me. I need a drink, it’s been a long day. I’ll see you later.”

Mina chuckled. “Alright. Be careful though. I know how much of lightweight you are and how much blabber whenever you’re drunk. Call me if you need me to pick you up!”

“Do you ever shut up?” Bakugou groaned, standing from the table.

“Oh, come on, don’t be like that, Ground Zero,” Toga cooed, Twice nodding along. “You saw that girl, right? Isn’t that what you wanted?”

“That’s right. You seemed rather fond of that girl. Perhaps you’re in love?” Mr. Compress further instigated.

“You’re all getting on my fucking nerves!” Bakugou exclaimed, kicking the table to the side.

“It’d be best if you calmed down, Baku– I mean, Ground Zero,” Kurogiri said wearily.

Dabi smirked. “Yeah, the number one hero, the new symbol of peace… _____. She really pisses me off like the rest of them.”

“Like I give a fuck with what pisses you off,” Bakugou grumbled, crossing his arms over his chest. He grabbed his jacket. “I’m going across the street. None of you better not fucking show up.” Bakugou didn’t wait to hear the taunting calls of his “employees” as he entered the rundown, but still busy bar.

The bartender, the owner, shot his head up at the sound of the door opening. He grinned. “Ground Zero! You want the usual?”

“Sure.” Bakugou scanned the room. “It seems busier than usual in this shit place.”

The bartender let out a bellowing laugh. “Yup! We have newcomers as well! It’s not everyday new people visit a villain’s bar.” He pointed down the counter. “Like that pretty girl over there. She reminds me a lot like the number one hero, but why would she be here of all places.”

Bakugou stared at the girl who had her head placed on the counter, pissed out drunk. “You don’t say… I’ll take my drink later.”

“Alrighty!” The bartender moved on to the next customer as Bakugou sat down next to the drunk girl.

“It’s not safe for a girl like you to be around here,” Bakugou muttered, eyeing the girl beside him.

She groaned, sitting up and rubbing her eyes. She wore a hoodie that covered her head and a surgical mask. She pulled it down, rubbing her eyes. Bakugou was shocked to see your drunken expression as you attempted to pull yourself together.

“What?” You looked at Bakugou, peering your eyes at him. “You look familiar.”

“Must be a coincidence. You do know this is the villain’s part of town, why’re you here, you’re obviously some pro.”

“This is the villain’s part?” You asked in shock, looking around the bar as if you had seen it for the first time. “It was right near the hospital! Hmm, that’s weird.”

“You didn’t answer my question; why’re you here?” Bakugou demanded, slightly irritated that you would act so carelessly.

You looked at Bakugou perplexingly. “You know, for a stranger you seem really concerned about me.” You turned the bar stool around, facing his direction. “But, I’m here because my boyfriend is a… butt.”

Bakugou had to refrain himself from bursting out into laughter from your drunkenness. “Why’s your boyfriend a…. butt?”

“Well, he’s mad that I let Katsuki go and didn’t even try to go against him. He’s also mad that I questioned the police’s authority with thinking that Katsuki’s a villain.” You crossed your arms over your chest. “I know Katsuki’s not a villain. And we basically fought over that.” Bakugou was dismayed. He initially thought what you had told him during today’s incident was utter and complete bullshit. The fact that you would go against your own boyfriend for him confused him if anything.

“Why would you even defend him anyways? Isn’t… Katsuki a villain?” Bakugou cringed at the sound of his own voice uttering his name, but he wanted to know what you were thinking, knowing that this time would probably be the only time to get you to tell him everything that was on your mind.

You shook your head. “He’s not. I know that for a fact ‘cause ten years ago, when we were still in U.A., my mom died when I was sixteen. I had given up every hope to become a hero. She was the reason why I wanted to be a hero and was my biggest motivator, too. My dad and even Natsuya helped me grieve but they also encouraged me to give up my dreams because they didn’t like the thought of me becoming a hero and putting my life at risk, so they didn’t do anything when I told them. But, Katsuki found me crying during lunch and he told me that if I gave up on becoming a hero, why the hell did I try so hard to get in?”

Bakugou remained silent, taking in the sight of you as you talked. Your eyes seemed heavy, cheeks flushed which were effects due to the alcohol. But, you still acted like the same _____ that he knew from school. He was astonished.

“And after that, everyday he would keep pushing me to work for my dream that I’ve wanted for so long. He would train with me and basically help me become the top of the class, even though he was aiming for that same goal. And he never asked for anything in return, no matter how many times I asked. He was a pain in my neck, but I would’ve never became a hero without him.”

You tucked a loose strand of hair behind your ear. “I just don’t understand… how can the most dangerous man in the world commit those crimes when he helped me become the hero I am today? Don’t villains hate heroes? So why did he help me?”

Bakugou still didn’t say anything, watching as you sighed exasperatedly and leaned your head on the counter. He parted his lips. “What would you say to him if you saw him now?”

You shot up, cheeks puffed in anger, and your fist raised in the air. “I’d walk up to him and punch him right in the face! And if I keep running into him, I’m gonna annoy him into becoming a hero until he does, the same way he did for me!”

Awe. Bakugou was in so much awe. Who knew the number one hero would care so much about the number one villain? Hearing you drunkingly talk so passionately made Bakugou feel… odd. He couldn’t quite describe it, but hearing you basically defend his name and talk so highly off him when he knew he could never meet your expectations, made him feel liberated.

“You’re an idiot,” Bakugou mumbled, shaking his head yet a small smile on his face.

“Huh?” You asked, rubbing your eyes vigorously. “Now that I think about it, you look like Katsuki.”

“No way, I’ve never heard of him.”

“Really?” You asked perplexingly. “You must’ve been confused this whole time if you don’t even know who he is. So, let me tell you all about him; he’s–”

“Okay, that’s enough talking for one day.” Bakugou stood up, leaning over to pull the mask back up onto your face. You were still a hero, and everyone in this area wouldn’t hesitate to kill you the minute they saw you. “I’m taking you home.”

You groaned. “I don’t wanna get up. I’m too tired.”

“Then I’ll fucking carry you.”

You gasped, shielding your body from him. “No! I’m not gonna let some stranger touch me!”

Yet you basically gave out your whole life story to this fucking stranger…

“Hey, Watari!” Bakugou called out to the bartender. “Put her drinks on my tab. I’ll pay for it when I get back.”

“You got it, Ground Zero!”

“Come on.” Bakugou grabbed your wrist and pulled you out of the bar. “I’m taking you home.”

Bakugou drove in front of the complex, unlocking your door to let you out. He had taken your surgical mask and slipped on a hat to cover his identity. He opened your door for you. “Are you gonna be okay getting inside?”

You nodded in exaggeration. “Mina’s at home, so I’m in good hands.” You stumbled your way inside, turning around and waving at Bakugou. “Thanks, stranger! Hopefully we see each other soon!”

Bakugou raised his hand, leaning against his car as he watched you walk right into the door and fall on your ass. He couldn’t help but laugh, you were still as clumsy as ever. He sighed, shoving his hands into his pockets as you waited for the elevator, looking around aimlessly.

“Yeah… hopefully we meet again soon.”

I have spent days coming up with the words for how I feel on this matter. This incident among many others need to be spoken and spoken about some more until we see the change in this broken world.

I want to speak about the events that took place May 25, 2020.

I want to talk about George Floyd.

I Have Spent Days Coming Up With The Words For How I Feel On This Matter. This Incident Among Many Others

He was an unarmed African American who was murdered by a white Minneapolis police officer, while being surrounded by three more and of other people who stood by and did nothing about it. I watched the video and what I saw was absolutely horrifying. What really made me upset was the desperation in his voice as he cried for his mother. As he spoke his last words.

“I can’t breathe…” He said. Those three words will stay with me. It’ll stay with those who this incident affected. It will stay with the oppressed. Because we can’t breathe.

I want to talk about what took place February 23rd, 2020.

Amaud Arbery.

I Have Spent Days Coming Up With The Words For How I Feel On This Matter. This Incident Among Many Others

An African American 25-year-old shot dead while jogging. His death was at the hands of Gregory McMicheal and his son, two armed white men.

I want to talk about what took place March 13, 2020.

Breonna Taylor.

I Have Spent Days Coming Up With The Words For How I Feel On This Matter. This Incident Among Many Others

An African American 26-year-old woman, shot at least 8 times by white police officers in Louisville, Kentucky. She was in bed. They had “no knock” warrants.

I want to talk about brothers and sisters who have died at the hands of systematic injustice that has went on for far too long. Read their names.

I have been to a couple of the protest marches in my city. It was beautiful, it was loud as it spoke volumes on the matter of injustice. Not only racial injustice but that of our corrupt system. That’s what important right now.

This has gone on for way too long and it’s time for the change we’ve been fighting for since the beginning.

“Come on, Mina, we’re gonna be late!” You exclaimed, shoving your keys in the lock while waiting for your best friend who was quite notorious for always being late.

“I’m coming!” Mina called out, running around your shared apartment to grab her things. She finally found her purse, slipped her shoes on, and joined you out the door.

“The one day off we have and you’re still late,” you grumbled, shoving your keys in your bag.

Mina grinned, looping her arm around yours. “Oh, please. You complain all the time and you still happily put up with me.”

“Yeah, because if I don’t who will?”

The two of you laughed, walking out of your apartment complex and down the street. You both earned a few awestricken stares by passers-by.

“Hi Ms. Pinky! Hi Ms. _____!” A kid who lived on the block where yours and Mina’s apartment was located. He always greeted the two of you every morning.

“Hi Masayuki!” You and Mina chimed in unison, earning a wide grin from the little boy.

Mina sighed. “Man, it’s one-hundred percent worth all the risks we take when we fight when we get to see such happy faces like that every morning.”

You nodded in agreement. “Mhm. The fact that we’re able to protect people who can’t protect themselves… I feel like everything’s worthwhile when people share their appreciation like that.”

Mina opened her mouth to give a reply, interrupted by your phone ringing in your pocket. You pulled it out, reading Natsuya’s caller I.D.

“Ooh! It’s Mr. Buff Chief of Police Boyfriend,” Mina teased, earning a eye roll from you.

You answered the call. “Hey, Natsu.”

“_____.” Natsuya’s gruff voice came from the other end. “What’re you doing right now?”

“Actually, Mina and I are walking to that café down the street. Tsuyu and Kyouka got here early this morning and we just wanted to see them before any villains do end up showing up.”

“Ah, okay. Well then I won’t bother you. Have fun.”

“Why’d you ask?”

“I wanted to take you out for breakfast. I feel like the only time we see each other, it’s work related.”

You smiled. “I’m sorry. I promise we can get dinner tonight. It’ll be just you and me. No villains and no girl friends either.” You eyed Mina who stuck her tongue out at you.

Natsuya chuckled. “Sounds good. I’ll see you tonight, _____.”

You said your goodbyes and hung up. Mina sighed dramatically. “You’re making me feel single, _____.”

You nudged her side. “It’s not my fault. Go get yourself a boyfriend then.”

“That’s too much work. I’d rather suffer in my lonesome,” Mina groaned.

You laughed, opening the door of the café. The bells jingled at the top and the baristas greeted the two of you, seeing as you were regulars at this point.

“There you guys are!” Jirou huffed, waving at you and Mina over to her table with Asui.

“What took you guys so long?” Asui asked, placing a finger on her chin.

“Well, beauty like this doesn’t take a few minutes, my friends,” Mina said dramatically, gesturing to her face.

“That translates to: Mina overslept as usual and I had to physically get her ass out of bed and she made us even more late.”

Jirou and Asui laughed while Mina glared at you. You sighed in relief. Besides Mina, you hadn’t met up with your past classmates from class A since graduation. Kirishima had stayed with you and Mina for a week when being stationed in the Kanto region where your apartment complex was located. But that was three years ago. It had been three years since then, since Shigaraki was pronounced dead and Bakugou was claimed to be the presumed culprit, leader of the League, and the most dangerous man alive.

“So how’s the Hokkaido region been, Kyouka?” You asked.

Jirou twirled one of her earphone jacks around her finger. “It’s been alright, if we’re talking crime-related things. Nothing too flashy. Since I live with Yaomomo, at least there’s two pros around the area to protect the people. But at least we haven’t run into the League like you, Tsuyu.”

Tsuyu nodded. “Ochako and I were assigned to patrol the Tohoku region and that Toga attacked us and a few other pros. Luckily no one got hurt. But, I think she wanted a blood sample of ours. That was three years ago though.”

“Still, that’s scary. The League really just won’t give up.” Mina laid her head on the table and sighed.

Suddenly, the tables and chairs and practically the whole shop shook briefly. “What was that?!” A woman screamed from outside, pointing down the street.

The four of you sprung up immediately, rushing outside to see the commotion. The buildings down the street were set up into raging blue flames.

“That’s gotta be Dabi,” you muttered.

“You don’t think our apartment’s burning up, too, do you?” Mina asked worriedly.

“We can’t know for sure. What the hell is the Vanguard even doing here?” Jirou asked angrily.

“It doesn’t matter. Tsuyu, Mina, you two stay back here and lead the people to safety. There’s probably so many people caught up in those flames right now and they need your help,” you instructed.

Tsuyu nodded, Mina agreeing with her. “You can count on us.”

As they rushed to help civilians, you turned to Jirou. “Kyouka, get up on a higher platform and try and see if you can use your earphone jack and find out what they’re doing here. And try and get us some backup, too!”

“Okay, but what about you?” Jirou asked.

“I’m going to try and buy us as much time as we can get and attack the Vanguard.”

“By yourself?! That’s suicide!”

You smiled slightly. “I’ll be fine. We’ve dealt with worse and pulled through each time. It’ll be the same this time as well. Plus, it seems that it’s just Dabi. I can handle him.”

Jirou gritted her teeth, dashing inside the café to access the rooftop. “You better be right about this, Number One!”

With that, you rushed into the direction of the attacks. People were running in the opposite direction, screaming in terror as they gripped onto one another and prayed they wouldn’t get burned. Due to your quirk, fire was no problem for you. Your quirk was called Nature. You could control any natural element as well as dispel it from your body. Water, earth, fire, air… if it consisted of earthly and natural components, you could control it at will. Because of this quirk, your body had grown accustomed to the burns and no longer felt damage or pain towards flames any longer.

“Well, well, well, look what we have here,” Dabi said cooly, emerging from his flames.

“What the hell do you want, Dab–-”

“I have strict instructions to not let anything happen to you.” He pointed further into the flames. “You have a visitor in there.”

You turned your head into the direction where he was pointing and just as you turned back to face him once more, he had vanished. “Dammit.”

Trudging along, you used the air part of your quirk and created a clear pathway for you to walk. Wondering who Dabi was talking about, a flower shop that was free of flames and was perfectly intact was the only building left untouched. You knew whoever Dabi was referring to was inside there, and as much as you wanted to wait for backup, you couldn’t handle the anticipation. Every fiber of your being was telling you to retreat and try and save some people or even go after Dabi, but a small part of you was pushing you to enter that flower shop.

Cautiously, you pushed open the door. Shelves upon shelves were covered in flower pots and the middle aisle was filled with large sunflowers, covering whatever was behind it.

“Mm, so you decided to come,” a voice muttered. The lights shut down, the windows drawn to a close as the light emanating through the glass was now absent. You were left in the darkness.

“Who the hell are you?” You demanded, raising your hand to create a small flame to provide as light for you to see.

A warm hand wrapped around your wrist while the other arm pushed you against the wall. The arm snaked down, resting at the small of your back. “Come on, flick that little flame out and see my face. I know you’ve been dying to see me.”

You gasped quietly. After hearing the voice more clearly, it was quite obvious who was trapping you in this little shop. You activated your quirk, flickering a small flame on your palm. Low and behold, Bakugou’s face was outlined through the flames, that devious smirk plastered on his face as always. “Katsuki.”

Bakugou scoffed. “My name’s not Bakugou Katsuki anymore so don’t fucking call me that.”

You stared up at him in disbelief. “It’s really you.”

“No shit.” Bakugou grinned deviously. “Happy to see me?”

“I don’t know,” you uttered truthfully. “How are you supposed to react when one of your best friends finally shows his stupid face after almost ten years, even when you had thought you were close with him. What’s the matter with you, Katsuki?”

Bakugou looked away for a moment before meeting your eyes once more. “I don’t expect you to understand.”

“Then help me understand.” You looked up at him. “You were there for me all those years ago, now let me return the favor.”

“I’m not asking for your help.”

“I don’t care. I don’t care what the news and media’s saying; you’re not a villain.”

Bakugou took one step forward, attempting to intimidate you but you stood your ground. Although you were a little frightened, you sure as hell weren’t going to give him that satisfaction. “And what makes you think I’m not a villain?”

“There’s no hard evidence that proves that you’re a villain. There’s no evidence that you actually killed Shigaraki or kidnapped all those people. All we have is the police’s apparent testimony.”

Bakugou raised a brow at you. “So you’re questioning the cops? Isn’t your prick of a boyfriend one of those shits?”

You furrowed your own brows. “That’s none of your business.”

Bakugou chuckled humorlessly. “Oh? I thought we were friends?”

You pried Bakugou’s grasp from your wrist, clutching his collar angrily. “We were friends, you dick! We were best friends! It was you, me, Mina, Kirishima, Kaminari, and Sero! We were always by your side, we always had your back! And you paid us with dust!”

Bakugou shook your grip off, planting his arms on either side of you on the wall behind you. You were trapped. “I don’t give a damn about any of you. Get that into your thick skull, Number One Hero. Speaking of, as the symbol of peace, aren’t you obligated to reprimand me and send me to the cops and your ass of a boyfriend?”

“I will. But not until you tell it to me straight.” This time you took a step forward, closing the gap in between the two of you. “Look me dead in the eyes and tell me that you committed all those crimes. Tell me that you’re still not the same Bakugou Katsuki that I fell in love with all those years ago.”

Bakugou’s eyes widened, his almighty façade wavering. “You’re in love with me?”

You jabbed your finger at his chest. “Were. Past tense. There’s no way that I could ever love a boy who would put his friends through hell for his own selfish ways.”

Bakugou scoffed. “Oh, and what now? You fall in love with little boys with sticks up their asses and a silver spoon in their mouths?”

“No.” You were furious with the way he was referring to Natsuya. “I fall in love with men who know how treat others. Who know how to not keep a woman waiting.”

Bakugou kept his mouth shut, glaring down at you. He separated his lips a few times, trying to come up with a rebuttal but failed each time.

“Now, I didn’t forget. Tell me your verdict.”

Bakugou parted his lips once more and you stared longingly, anticipating his response.

A response that you’d have to hear another time, if there was another time.

“Hey, boss man! Wherever you are, we’ve gotta go. The pros are all here!” Dabi’s voice called out from outside.

Bakugou’s signature smirk creeped up his face as he moved away from you quickly, heading for the exit.

You gasped, chasing after him. “Katsuki! Get back here!”

Kurogiri appeared alongside Dabi who walked into the warp gate. Bakugou turned to face you before walking off. “Don’t look so down, _____. We’ll see each other again, and may be I’ll give you the answer to that question you’ve been dying to know about.”

And like that he was gone.

Mysteriously, Dabi’s once raging flames died down, leaving a suffocating smoke behind. You dropped to your knees. You had almost done it, almost gotten the answer you and your friends had been desperately wanting to know about for the past three years. But he had slipped away, leaving you behind.

Then again, it was what he did best: leave you behind.

• Ch. 10: Who Needs You •

PREVIEW || Scars That Heal

     "You!"

The howl of fury from Sonia Kaspbrak brought a whole new sense of fear to the Losers as they stood on the opposing end of her finger. Having fled the gruesome house on Neibolt, the Losers, in a great panic, had managed to haul their injured friend away from Neibolt and back to his own front lawn. Thanks to Mike, who while thinking quickly, had placed Eddie in his own bike's basket, the two were able to escape on their bikes with the rest of their friends. And though the horrid scene was now blocks away, not a single Loser dared lose a notch of speed, and did not stop until they had discarded their bikes on Eddie's front lawn, panting heavily.

"You did this!" She hissed, immediately separating Eddie from his friends.

The seven friends parted hesitantly as she forced him by the nape of the neck across the lawn towards her car.

"You know how delicate he is." She huffed, earning a few heavy eyerolls from a select few.

Bill stepped forward after them, finding his voice, and powering through his stutter.

     "W-We were attacked, M-Mrs. K,"

She opened the squeaky passenger door, just about shoving Eddie inside and turned on the seven friends. She stared each of them down, fiery gaze meeting with each pair of eyes.

"No! Don't," she ordered, slamming the door shut, caging a still frightened Eddie. "Don't try to blame anyone else."

Her hands shake with a rage, causing her ring of keys to slip from her fingers and land on the pavement. Seeing this, Beverly bends down after them.

"Let me help-" She offers, only to be cut off and shooed away by the woman.

     "Get back!" She bellows.

She steps forward, retrieving her keys and straightens enough to lean in close to intimidate Beverly.

"Oh, I've heard of you miss Marsh," Mrs. Kaspbrak sneered. "And I don't want a dirty girl like you touching my son."

"Mrs. Kaspbrak, please, if we could just explain-" Y/n pleas were soon cut short.

"Enough!" The woman roared, her puffy face turning red.

She looked Y/n up and down with a snide look in her eye, as if the young girl was nothing more than something she had dragged in on her shoe.

"Don't think I haven't heard of you either, you filthy little thing! Following this harlot around town," she quickly throws Beverly a hostile look. "begging for scraps like some stray. Wouldn't be surprised if you picked up on her dirty little habits and I certainly won't have you lurking around my son any longer!"

Y/n stood unnaturally still, taking the conjectures she had heard almost her entire life with surprising composure. But that wall she had built up, cracked, just ever so at the mention of Eddie and she glanced past the screaming woman and into the car where Eddie's small stature was barely visible over the windows in the low seat. This was the first time he had allowed himself to look at one of them, and it was at Y/n.

Their eyes met, her gaze was distant, and she seemed to be disconnecting from reality as if to spare herself from the pain of saying goodbye. As if she knew his mother would finish her lecture, get in the car, and drive away with Eddie and that would be it. She knew that Eddie wouldn't stand up for her. Get angry for her, or even for himself, and finally stand up to his mother. But she didn't blame him, he had barely escaped death, and even still, he had a horribly broken arm.

But that didn't stop her heart from breaking as she saw his large doey brown eyes staring back at her. They were fightened, and sad but also docile as his mother continued shouting abuse at the her; The girl who was quickly after his heart.

"You are not to speak to my Eddie, you are not to set foot within five hundred feet, of my Eddie Bear, nor can you even-" she stopped suddenly, roughly turning the girls head to look at her, and lowered her voice. "You are not to even look at my Eddie."

She leaned forward into the girl's face, and glared spitefully.

"I don't want my son catching fleas." She spit.

Everyone had stood silently in shock, not expecting such venomous words from the woman. Nor were they expecting a heated comeback from Richie who stepped forward beside Y/n, fists clenched despite his otherwise cool exterior.

"With all due respect, Mrs. K, Y/n isn't the problem," Her wild glare shifted to the boy. "If you're worried about fleas, Eddie's more likely to catch 'em from living up your v-"

Richie was suddenly cut off by a hand clamping over his mouth, it was Y/n. Who albeit, very much appreciated the gesture, and would definitely laugh about it in the future, still wanted at least a sliver of a chance of both her and Richie getting to see Eddie again.

The woman took a long deep breath, and glared daggers at the boy. Anyone would know a million things were running through her head in that moment; several things she would have liked to have said to the no good heathen that her son always clung to, but she knew she could waste no more time. Her eyes said enough.

"Don't start with me young man, this is far from over." She seethed.

And with that, she whirled around on her heel and wobbled over to the driver's side.

"Thanks, Richie," Y/n croaked, a silent tear streaking her dirtied cheek.

"Catching fleas," Richie grumbled. "Honestly, and you guys actually think my mouth's the one that outta be sewed shut."
