author next to me: Absolutely not! They're mine. I wouldn't like that at all.

me, blinks: But that's a great way to be known! People love your story and characters so much it inspires them to create. That's how fandoms grow.

other author: Maybe, but I wouldn't like it all.

me: Fair, to each their own.

(but in my mind i was like "enjoy obscurity I guess." There are four fanfics about my first novel and they're my jewels. I stare at my ao3 page when I feel down. my goal is to have my own ao3 category.)

other author: I wouldn't want other people to write my story, but badly.

me: lol what you don't want is people writing your story but better.
