For All Of You Guys Getting Anxious About The Environment And Pollution

for all of you guys getting anxious about the environment and pollution

y’all deserve to hear the good news too, and yes i fact checked these.

7 miles of habitat for bees will be planted in london

the biggest coal plant in north america has been converted to solar panels

roads in edinburgh will close once a month to help pollution

maine has banned styrofoam

new york city and los angeles have both made “green new deals”

The london marathon replaced 200,000 single use water bottles with seaweed water pods

the bees in notre dame survived the fire, and the roof could possibly built in a more eco-friendly way.

the population of flightless kakapos (a cool bird) is rising

the carbon emissions in the uk are the lowest they’ve been since 1998

Another large bee habitat (.5 mil acres) has been created

there is a robot that delivers young coral to help repopulate the great barrier reef

portugal plans to stop using plastic on fruit, vegetables, and bread by 2020

106 new species of bees have been discovered in australia since 2010

a group of Sikhs plan to plant 1,000,000 trees as a gift to the earth

disney has made a mickey-shaped solar farm

Morgan freeman turned a 124 acre ranch in mississippi to a bee habitat

China plans on making a “forest city” to help clean up their air

An increasing amount of countries and states are beginning to ban single use plastics.

A couple replanted a whole forest in brazil (2.7 mil trees) in 20 years, and the animals have come back to live there

The hole in the ozone layer is repairing itself more each year

China plans on spending 360 billion dollars to improve renewable energy and has scrapped plans for coal powered plants that were going to be built.

A national park has been built in the amazon (3.3 mil acres in peru) to preserve the rainforest

Ireland and the uk have declared a climate emergency

The guy who played aquaman (jason momoa) has spent 31,000 dollars to help clean up plastic

South korea is now recycling 95% of food waste

There is a cleanup campaign being planned for mt. everest

Puerto rico wants to use all renewable energy by 2050 and is setting official goals for that

Some schools have special water bottle fill-up stations that encourage you to use refill and reuse plastic bottles rather than throwing them out after one use, these are becoming more common.

9 endangered species are thought to make a comeback this year

20 countries in africa are planning to make a “green wall” of trees and plants that will span the width of africa to stop desertification

recently, a lot of volunteers and organizations are planting a ton of trees.

Awareness about the environment and climate change is growing super fast right now among people and countries, which will only help us

Most pollution is caused by like 100 companies, but a few of those (like pepsi) are trying to cut down on that.

if this stuff keeps happening things will get even better, and the only thing stopping us really are those big companies who don’t want to pay the money to switch to more eco-friendly energy sources. i know the media tends to cause fear and stress about this stuff for a lot of people, but there really is hope.

easy things we can do:

Recycle

Plant gardens in your yard for bees if you can

Participate in community volunteer things that plant trees and gardens

Theres this search engine called ecosia that plants a tree for every 45 searches you make, it has almost 2 mil users.

Pick up trash if you see it when you’re at the beach or in nature

If you have a fair amount of money, consider donating some to trustworthy environmental organizations

Start using a reusable water bottle (like those ones at target) rather than relying on single use plastic ones.

Cut the plastic rings on plastic milk bottles. You know, the little spiky plastic ring near the cap. Birds get those things stuck around their neck and die, so cut them so that they can’t get stuck on a neck.

If you can afford it, get some of those reusable grocery bags and sue those. most grocery stores have them, and it saves a lot of waste.

Not to sound like an out-of-touch, conspiratorial grandmother, but the internet is poison.

The human brain was not developed to process such a rapid onslaught of constant information and stimulation. It obliterates our attention span, destroys our sleep cycle, makes us more prone to depression and anxiety, and material damages the composition and function of our brains.

We're in the midst of a massive, societal-scale social experiment, in which children raised on greasy iPads are the test subjects.

Gore. Exploitation films of half-naked women forced to eat vomit. Subreddits full of beheading and bloody car crashes.

The romanticization of mental illness. Teens relish in their sadness and fetishize their trauma. Kids will make their depression part of their identity because media told them it adds "depth" or "layers" to them as people. Girls will develop very real eating disorders, or start showing symptoms of DID or Tourette's or dysphoria because social media convinced them they have this disorder.

Adult women writing non-con smut fanfiction that little girls read. “One Direction Real Person Fiction on Wattpad.com: A Textual Analysis of Sexual Consent,” a 2020 study published by the University of North Carolina, found that the most popular sexual scripts in One Direction Wattpad fanfictions, almost entirely written and consumed by young females, heavily enforce rape myths, such as victim blaming and myth of female pleasure during sexual assault. These stories, these erotic female fantasies, sexualize stark power differences and dominant male behavior.

Misogynistic porn is everywhere. A generation of boys is getting their sex education through degrading videos of women being slapped and violently fucked in the ass. In her 2016 TedTalk titled “Grown Up in a Pornified Culture,” Gail Dines made the observation, “So get rid of the notion of Playboy, Penthouse, or even Hustler, those were the good old days of pornography. I never thought I would stand here and tell you, and look back and say ‘these seemed even quaint.’ What changed everything was the internet.”

Anime and fandom always leads to porn. Without exception. Even if you're child is consuming fucking "My Little Pony" fandom content or some other wholesome children's cartoon.

Nerd culture and "subversive" interests lead to bizarre, political radicalization pipelines.

Anti-feminism is a vile disease and it's spreading, indoctrinating men and boys through social media algorithms. Incels, MRAs, MGTOW, pick-up artists, red-pilled men.

The alt-right pipeline. Impressionable teens go from "counter cultural" edglords to Nazis or white nationalists. A 2021 study titled "Auditing Radicalization Pathways on YouTube" found that many users who engage with alt-right content used to exclusively engage with "alt-lite" or "information dark web" content, such as Ben Shapiro, Steven Crowder, or Blaire White.

Cyberbullying at levels parents aren't remotely aware of. Thousands of users dog piling on one person like a pack of savage rabid animals, all because they’re cringey or said something problematic. This generation is so cruel, yet they mask their cruelty with humor or self-righteous moral superiority. 2016 YouTube cringe compilations.

Everything is connected, and Amber Heard was a victim to all of it. MRAs we're behind so much of Amber's vilification in 2018.

And now she's being mocked and humiliated and trolled on a global scale. This trial will radicalize young boys to the right, because the "liberal media" (mainstream news outlets) sided with Amber, and therefore cannot be trusted, while fringe sources like The Daily Wire funneled thousands of dollars into promoting anti-Amber Heard propaganda.

I don't plan on having children, but if I ever do, holy fuck, they won't know what a phone even is.

I don't like the phrase "love is love".

I am oriented aroace and tell my friends and family members that I love them all the time. However, I know people who are aromantic, asexual, aplatonic, etc., and describe themselves as loveless. I fully support those people. Love is not a part of some people's identity, and they should still be accepted.

Also, the queer community is not just about sexuality. The phrase "love is love" ignores trans and nonbinary people. Straight or not, sexuality and love are not the only parts of their queer identity.

It's not just about accepting who we love but accepting who we are. Being queer should not have to fit into ideas of amatonormativity and cisnormativity. We are not relationships. We are people.

Introducing the AO3 Tag Blocker!

image

This is a browser extension designed to permanently block tags on the Archive of Our Own. This includes relationships, characters, fandoms, and additional tags. It also blocks ratings and archive warnings. It will remember all this between sessions, so you won’t have to enter them more than once.

Once you’ve given it the tags, ratings, or archive warnings you’d like blocked, they will be blocked on every page on AO3 where works can be filtered. That is to say, almost all of them. I’ve listed the places where it doesn’t work on the About page of this blog.

image

THIS EXTENSION IS NOT AS USER FRIENDLY AS THE ARCHIVE IS. PLEASE READ THE DIRECTIONS BEFORE TRYING TO USE IT.

This isn’t a professionally developed extension, and it’s the first release, so there are probably some bugs. If you see a tag where it shouldn’t be, the tag blocker breaks something on AO3, or if you’d like to request a feature, feel free to message me.

Since tumblr will shadowblock this post if I put links in it, links to the directions and to download the extension can be found on this blog. Currently, the extension is available in Chrome, Firefox, and Edge, with Opera on the way.
