I Designed This Monarch Butterfly Last Week As The First Of My Boss Is Out Of Town, Lets Make Shit! Batch
I designed this monarch butterfly last week as the first of my “boss is out of town, let’s make shit!” batch of new stuff.
I used the black areas of a real monarch butterfly as the positive portions of the mask, with the negative space being the orange and white colored patches. I’ll need to do a bit of editing for future copies of this (a bit smaller overall, adjust the angle of the lower wings, beef up the central connection area), but all told I’m quite happy with how this turned out.
It’s for sale, of course: https://www.etsy.com/listing/711352318/monarch-butterfly-mask

A batch of fig leaf codpieces from last month, done in black leather and hardware. I’d originally designed this as a bit of a joke, and I’d just about given up on them, then someone asked for this set for a group of their friends who were going to a Pride event. So these went to a group of satyrs in bondage harnesses.
The client asked for black hardware to match the harnesses they’d be wearing, so that was the tricky thing about this order. I had to source the hardware from a couple different places, but they ended up matching pretty well. And now I know a couple more suppliers that had some good stuff.
I don’t think I’ll have the black hardware up as a regular option, since keeping more hardware in stock eats into my space and materials investment budget. (Also the rivets were sufficiently differently sized from my regular ones that they were A Pain.) But I could get them again for the right project.
The regular version of these codpieces is available on my Etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/listing/702512626/fig-leaf-codpiece
And here's the last of that batch of new mask designs. A crown fit for an evil monarch, dark sorcerer, or anyone else who needs to be feared and respected.
I think I got the shaping on this one better than the last time I tried these sorts of spikes. Part of that is, there’s a strap that the lower layer of spikes fastens down to, which keeps them pulled at the right angle with the power of triangles, rather than relying on just the stiffness of the formed leather to keep them in place.
Obligatory Etsy link!
Chainmail choke collar prototype. I had the idea, so I had to make it. The only way to put this one on was to close the last few rings it in place with pliers. That was tricky, but I got it. (It’s really hard to manipulate pliers up by your neck, trying to guide yourself by looking in a mirror.) Then it wouldn't come off without wire cutters.
Options for making this for other people would be to (1) make it big enough to slip over the head, which would defeat the point for some, or (2) use an open-able O-ring (which I did find a source for), or (3) throw another closure in there like a lobster clasp or a small lock, or (4) I dunno I’d have to start going to more conventions and just spend my time there weaving non-removable chainmail onto people’s necks.
Half-Persian 4-in-1 weave, made in stainless steel. The O-rings are nickel-plated steel. This weave is good for these sorts of weighty-but-not-too-imposing chains.
Scale dragon tail in orange with green stripes. This one is the medium length, measures in at 30 inches from tip to top, and weighs 2 pounds 9 ounces.
I’ve been having a patch of time that’s felt a bit overwhelming with things to do and deal with in many different directions, but it was nice to have this commission on my queue to just zone out and not have to think about things while doing something productive.
Next up: 2 more weeks of being scatter-brained, then I decide between taking a wave of commissions or making a Halloween costume.
Though I gotta say, I’m finding a bit of grim humor in the fact that I just hit 404 posts and now I can’t be found.
I had been thinking for several months about whether I should make a stand-alone website for my stuff so I wasn’t relying on the whims of algorithmic porn enforcement. I guess this is probably gonna push that from “maybe one of these years” to “I guess that’ll be my project for November.”
Wait fuck did I get fucking flagged as a porn blog
what the fuck tumblr
seriously?
