Cinderella Rewrite Where Cinderellas Father Is An Unusually Successful Fisherman Due To His Secret Friendships
Cinderella rewrite where Cinderella’s father is an unusually successful fisherman due to his secret friendships with the shy and mysterious mermaids, successful enough to attract a moderately wealthy and ambitious bride with two daughters. Once he dies, her stepmother, determined to make sure her daughters inherit the fishing business as dowries by marrying before Cinderella, forbids her from going out on the fishing boats or into town and makes sure she spends as much of her time as possible doing drudgework, hauling offal and cleaning fish. When the Prince’s ball comes around, an important occasion for young women to make good connections, the stepmother forbids her from going, telling her that she needs to get the latest salmon catch gutted and ready for sale instead.
Cinderella’s mermaid godmother calls upon her people to clean the fish and gifts her a dress and shoes of shimmering fish scales that wreathe her in rainbows under the moonlight. She makes an impression on the Prince at the ball so strong that he immediately falls in love with her, and when she’s forced to flee before her stepmother notices her (no masquerade mask or dancing rainbows will disguise her from her own family at close range), the Prince is left with only a delicate fish leather slipper left on the front steps to try to find her again.
He goes around the houses, seeking the owner of the slipper, but Cinderella is once again working in the fish sheds. He stepmother, desperate and determined and having found Cinderella’s other shoe that very morning, realises what has happened and takes a knife to the feet of her prettiest daughter, telling the prince that she suffered an injury that very morning but those are definitely her shoes, see, here’s the other one, and they still fit.
The daughter is pretty and witty and charming, and while the Prince doesn’t feel the same spark and instant sense of connection that he did at the party, he reasons that she’s overwhelmed and in pain and once she’s healed, all will be well. There are no birds to whisper of blood in the shoe – the Prince has seen the bandaged feet already – and the daughter slips on the shoes (the only shoes she has that will fit her, now,) and accompanies him to the palace.
But the stepmother is no doctor, and by the time the Prince gets her to the palace doctors, it’s too late – his beloved has contracted an infection in her feet from the shoe leather, made unclean in its travels. She will survive – it is an infection of a common filth of fish and birds, one that the doctors have potions for for the occasions where dangerously cooked food causes outbreaks – but in her raving, she confesses the whole scheme to the Prince who, furious, returns to the village to find the girl he truly fell in love with, the girl hidden from him.
“Oh, yeah, the fish cleaner,” the villagers shrug. “We don’t see her around very much, she’s probably in the sheds. Her family calls her Salmonella.”

A couple weeks ago I took my last exam in French. I fully intend to work with it as much as possible in my life, but I miss it. So, today I read this beautiful graphic novel.
I loved the art and the plot was interesting: a combination of realism and fairytale set on a mysterious island. Also, the cover is spectacular and the photo does not do the colours justice!
but guys, just think, Aziraphale and Crowley met at Eden when there were only two people in the whole world. and for the first 500 years or so after Creation, there would have been like less than 1,000 people around, if that?? the first hundred years, maybe like just 50 people (all of Adam and Eve’s kids basically, and some grandkids?) and they wouldn’t have migrated very far yet at all, I’m guessing.
so basically Crowley and Aziraphale would have just kept bumping into each other, like all the time?? literally they could have been in the same hut, telling each other to knock it off bc it was their turn to whisper from someone’s shoulder, and couldn’t they go tempt / bless someone else? (”but there is nobody else right now, angel! not enough people have been born yet!”) they’d have been stepping on each other’s toes, and definitely not so secretly pleased to see each other nearly every other day. (“oh dear, that’s my list all done for the year I’m afraid. whatever shall we do now, with all this free time?” hint hint, heart eyes.)
and then, as the population started increasing exponentially and people started migrating, they’d start to see less of the other, and start missing each other a lot more. (maybe Crowley came up with the concept of long-distance relationships, and curses himself to this day for it). and then that’s when they started arranging actually meeting times, taking active steps (and making silly excuses) to see each other. (“oh my schedule is so packed at the moment, ssss’pity we can’t share the workload. then we might have time to try that new thing, what do they call it again, a restaurant?” blink blink.)

Are you tempted? Tempted, by what? Immortality. Let’s say it wasn’t my heart. Not me. Just a star you didn’t know. You seriously think I could kill anybody. Even if I could, I mean, everlasting life? I imagine it would be kind of lonely. Well, maybe if you had someone to share it with. Someone you loved. Then it might be different.
COC Day 2: Alternate Universe
So pretty much since I started making art for this fandom I’ve been obsessed with the idea of a Stardust AU. I actually think about how I’d plot the fic all the time! So here’s a little bit of that getting out. Finally.
I think I definitely picked the wrong moment to join tumblr after spending years in the shadows
(No, I don't come from twitter)

Hi. Hello. I’m here today to talk about Swegory.
This fic (Jelly Babies and other signs that your roommate probably isn’t a demon by @chen-chen-chen-again-chen) and this pairing has absolutely stolen my heart. It features a teen Swithin Grimm and his roommate Gregory Petty (with whom he is secretly in love), and elder queers Baz and Simon there to help them along a bit, even if it’s just to listen patiently while one or both of them has either a mini breakdown, a realization, or both?
I want to do more art of these babies, but I just had to get a sketch out tonight. PLEASE give this fic a read, I promise you’ll fall in love with these characters. Get all cozy when you do it, get a warm drink, and a snuggly blanket, because that’s what reading this fic already feels like. COZY.
