You quietly walked out of the kitchen, dressed in your Halloween costume and ready for that afternoon’s party. After so much time apart, you decided that you had to celebrate your husband’s return from his business trip and Dick’s visit from the university in Bludhaven with a family party for this representative holiday of your family. It was sad for you that Alfred, who was a fundamental part of your family, could not participate in the festivity, but it was better that way, nothing could ruin that day. You were so calm and concentrated in your thoughts that you didn’t notice your youngest son and his red-haired friend hiding behind the sofa out of your sight.

“BOO!!” yelled both teens singing to show you just as you walked past the couch.

“AHH!!” you screamed in fright, making sure that both your eldest son and your husband heard you.

I want to apologize for the delay of this new chapter, I finally started college in person and had to move, in addition the coexistence with my classmates has proven to be problematic and I had family problems, so everything has been a disaster and i did not have time to sit down and write an appropriate chapter.

I hope you like the result and enjoy it, let me know your opinion and do not forget to ask if you want to be added to the tag list of this history. XOXO ELLA.

You were walking down the stairs carrying a box with the word «books» written on the front for the audience to see, and near the door a couple more boxes labeled with different names. You put the box you had brought next to the others and sighed before passing your hand over your forehead pretending to dry the sweat.

“One less box” you commented out loud as Dick appeared behind you through the kitchen with a frown, the boy looked around skeptically, he was eighteen now “There are ten more to go” your final sentence, and you turned to jump in your place when seeing your son behind you. He wasn't supposed to be on the scene yet. But you quickly recovered and you have kept the character “Dickie, honey, I did not hear you come in” you said, reproaching him a little.

“What is this?” he said pointing to the pile of boxes, while you stood facing each other, making it clear to both of you that he was already taller than you, almost half a head ahead.

“Well, I decided to start bringing your boxes to this floor, so when your friends arrive they just have to put them in the trunk ready for their trip” you said waving a hand to play down the situation (nothing was out of place and nothing was weird) But Dick wasn't satisfied with your answer, the pieces were no longer fitting perfectly in his mind, and what had been anger and frustration yesterday at his teenage hormones was now confusion and worry.

“But why do I need boxes? Mom, what friends-” His words were cut short by Jason, stomping down the stairs, interrupting the unscripted moment to your relief. When Dick looked at his brother, he wasn't surprised at his appearance, he realized that unlike the first time he saw him this week, the now thirteen year old boy looked familiar. That feeling of relief quickly turned into one of anguish as he watched as Jay walked over and stood between them, forming a kind of triangle. What had happened? he wondered.

“Now that you're going off to college, you'll lend me your comics, right?” he asked, putting his hands in the pockets of his jeans “You won't need them while they're out doing boring adult things” the boy mocked to which Dick couldn't help but laugh out loud.

“So you can sell them for a few bucks and buy yourself a new skateboard?” Dick asked him, raising an eyebrow “Don't even dream about it” he refused, smiling, almost ignoring his doubts as he interacted with Jason. Why? he wondered.

“¡Oh, come on!” the teen complained “Don't be a dick, Dick” he scoffed back.

“Jason” you scolded him calmly and without avoiding smiling.

“¿What?” your youngest son asked defensively “That's his name” he shrugged and smiled at you “Let's have breakfast” he said and the three of them went to the kitchen.

“Why do you want to sell my comics?” Dick asked puzzled, as the three entered the room “Just ask dad for a new skateboard, it's not like we're short of cash” he said sitting in one of the chairs around the counter while you magically organized breakfast and served yourself coffee in a cup at the same time.

“I want to start fending for myself and getting my own shit” Jason explained, sitting next to him, watching as the fresh toast flew towards them and pulling one out of the basket.

“Sure” said Dick incredulously “You stand on your own and get your own stuff selling MY comics. That makes a lot of sense” Dick exclaimed sarcastically, as he looked at the coffee, pouring itself into his cup in front of him. While you were making pancakes for the four of us.

“They won't be YOUR comics if you leave them to me” Jason explained raising a hand to his forehead and pointing to his temple “You have to work smarter not harder, Diky-boy” Jason bit into his toast, but Dick's back stiffened as if I just dumped a bucket of water on him. You noticed it.

“What did you call me?” Dick asked, confused, he had heard that before.

“Dicky-boy” Jason repeated casually, obviously not realizing what he had done and calmly eating his breakfast. Dick remembered that nickname, but he didn't know from where, he just didn't like hearing it from his brother's mouth.

“Do not call me that way!” he demanded sharply, causing you to immediately turn around with a plate of pancakes in hand.

“Richard” you quickly fooled him, Dick looked at you and saw in your eyes a silent plea to let it go, Jason didn't know, to which the older boy quickly relaxed and let it go. Jason doesn't know, he thought “Here, Jaybird, have some pancakes” you said to your confused youngest son, who had been taken aback by his older brother's aggressive outburst “Let me get you the honey” you said, putting the plate in front of him and turning around to search the refrigerator.

Jason wasn't stupid, he noticed Dick's sudden change in attitude, from the day before, or rather since the Talent Show a few days ago, as if he distrusted everything he saw, as if he distrusted you, what it did not make sense. Why would Dick distrust you?, he wondered as he looked at his pancakes.

DING DONG.

The doorbell interrupted the thoughts of both brothers, snapping them out of their questions and concerns, just in time as you had planned. You smiled happily at that, it was time the boys had someone else to spend time with, especially now that Dick was off to college.

“Are we waiting for someone?” Jason asked.

“Is it Alfred?” Dick asked, always asking the questions you didn't need him to ask.

“It's a pizza?” Jason asked excitedly.

“Why would it be a pizza, we haven't even finished breakfast yet?” Dick asked, looking at him, somewhat amused by the question.

“We could have pancakes and pizza for breakfast, duh” explained the younger with confidence in his logic, Dick laughed at that and you did too.

“No, it's not a pizza” you explained, smiling at the lightness of the atmosphere “It's a surprise, follow me” you said.

The three of them walked to the door, through the decorative glass they could see the silhouette of someone, no taller than Jason, but they couldn't see his features or guess who it was. It definitely wasn't Bruce, because his shadow would occupy the entire door, and he wouldn't ring the doorbell, his father had keys.

“As you have been complaining all week that you're going to be bored without Dick here, I decided to invite someone to spend a couple of weeks here with us” you said, approaching the door and opening it to reveal the special guest.

A thirteen-year-old Roy Harper stood in the doorway smiling, a suitcase at his side and a bag slung over his shoulder.

“What's up, dude?” he smiled, his audience applauded in excitement.

“Roy” greeted Jason happily, going over to his best friend and greeting him with a complex handshake “This gonna be sick!!” he exclaimed happily as he finished with the greeting.

“Without a doubt” agreed the redhead, taking his things and leaving them next to the door “Thanks for having me, Mrs. Wayne” the boy began kindly while looking at you “And I must give him an award for convincing my father to let me come, usually he doesn't let me travel that far alone, but this time he just agreed and brought me” the boy explained excitedly, to which I smiled and shrugged.

“What can I say?” you raised your hand. “I am a very persuasive woman.” You laughed. “Now let's go to the kitchen, there are packages ready for everyone” I said pointing in the direction of the kitchen. Jason and Roy quickly made their way to the spot, but when you were about to follow them, Dick grabbed your arm to stop you and came over to speak quietly.

“Did you manipulate Roy's father's mind?” he asked, to which you cringed a little and gave him a look accepting the accusation “Mama!!” exclaimed Dick surprised “You're not supposed to use your powers on people in the city, we're supposed to go unnoticed” he explained, looking at you as if he was seeing you for the first time, but you decided to dismiss it as his surprise at the situation, after all you hadn't done something like that since they had moved to the city.

“Dick, don't worry” you said calmly as you put your hands on his shoulders, looking up at him a bit “Oliver, he doesn't even live near the city” you laughed nonchalantly “Besides it wasn't anything big, just a little help to to let the boy have a little fun, you know how he is” you explained and left behind the children, before disappearing from the scene turning to look at him “Are you coming?” you smiled at him.

Dick looked at you for a moment, that smile that usually caused him to calm down and remember how much he adored you, now told him that there was something wrong in the house, so he made a quick decision.

“I'll go to my room” he said before leaving the room before you can stop him.

“Dickie-” he was gone before you finished calling him, you wanted to follow him to stop him and tell him to come spend time with everything together, but you decided that it didn't matter how hard you tried. He was no longer a child after all.

Later in the day, Roy and Jason were standing in front of the kitchen sink, which they had filled with water and bubbles. They were both struggling with the small four-legged creature, a German shepherd puppy, whose dirt was now peeling off thanks to the water, but his restless energy caused everything around him to fill with water.

“God, stay still, Buddy” Jason groaned, tucking the pup back into the sink when he saw him try to climb out of the water again.

“I don't like baths either, but this is ridiculous” complained Roy with his wet shirt and bubbles in his hair as he also tried to keep the puppy in place still.

“Jason, Ray!!” You called from outside the kitchen.

“Oh shit” Jason exclaimed upon hearing you.

“Are you in the kitchen?” you asked approaching the door, to which they turned around in their places to receive you, when you entered the room you sighed in relief and rested your arms on your hips “You know, I don't miss the complaints but Jezz Louise, did you have to disappear like that all the time?” you sighed “You two never stay put” you complained looking at them carefully for the first time since you entered: Jason and Roy are forced to smile in front of the sink, incredibly still and trying to look as innocent as possible, which was suspicious “Unless you´re innocently forming a human wall in front of the kitchen sink” point suspiciously approaching them.

SNEEZE.

“Bless you” you said automatically.

“Thank you” “Thank you” they both replied at the same time still wanting to keep their cover.

WOFF

“Now tell me which one of you just barked?” you asked seriously, the boys looked at each other in resignation, they had been discovered "Move" you motioned for them to move, revealing the puppy all wet and full of bubbles, in your sink which was now a mess “Oh boy” you exclaimed “Waiter, what's this canine doing in my kitchen sink?” you asked, turning me around to face the tweens.

“Learn to swim doggy style” Roy declared jokingly, to the audience laughing, but Jason nudged him.

“Can I keep it, mom?” Jason asked, making puppy dog eyes, a skill that despite his age he hadn't lost and was still very effective with you.

“Jay, I'm sure his owners are looking for him and they miss him” you said as you took a dishcloth out of one of the drawers to use as a towel for the little pup, you took it out and held it in your arms, taking a closer look “Huh. There really is no collar” you pointed out aloud when you saw that the animal had no way of identifying it.

“Please, mom” Jason continued to ask as you walked away from the sink with the dog in hand.

“The poor thing was crying in the woods, alone and abandoned, Mrs. Wayne” Roy pointed out, following behind you and Jason.

“Taking care of a living thing is a big responsibility, Jason, I think you're old enough to understand that. Right?” you looked at your eldest son.

“I totally get it, Mom” Jason assured confidently “And I'll take 100% responsibility for Buddy and his care” he smiled proudly.

“Buddy need food, exercise, training” you stroked the animal's head, which was trying to climb up to your face to lick you “Belly rubs, and cuddles” you let the animal come closer to lick your nose “and kisses between his little ears” you had distracted playing a little with the animal.

"Mom, where is-?" Dick burst into the kitchen with the intention of talking to you urgently, but he stopped suddenly when he saw the animal in your arms “Well, hello, unfamiliar weth animal” he said approaching you to run his hand over the puppy's head, you chuckle at that “Who's this?” he asked you to turn away to look at Jason and Roy, immediately assuming they had something to do with this.

“We're not quite sure, actually” you confessed leaving the animal back in Jason's arms “What did you want, honey?” you asked, to which Dick frowned at the strangeness of the sensation.

“Well, I was looking for my room and found…” he looked down and was now holding a small wooden dog house by the handle “Exactly the item we require” he said slowly, totally taken aback by the timing of events and the mysterious appearance.

“Well, I think it's a good time to name the new member of the family then” you said cheerfully as Dick put the house down and looked around strangely, realizing that no one seemed to have noticed the sudden nonsensical appreciation, successfully distracting everyone (including him) from the real reason he had been looking for you.

"His name is Buddy," Jason said happily.

“And I'm his proud uncle” said Roy, taking the animal out of his arms with a dramatic scowl on his face, he kissed the animal's nose and he was happily licking it in response.

“Well, should we make it official?” you asked, laughing at your son's happiness.

You raised your hand in the air as if to flatter, then moved your hand to make a red collar with a paw-shaped dog tag engraved with Buddy's name. Dick was stunned.

“Here you are” you said to the children while giving them the collar to put on the dog.

"Mama" Dick called, approaching you, clearly shocked.

"Hmm?" you turned to look at him, confused by his attitude.

“Roy is right there!” he points out to the redheaded boy that he was totally indifferent to what you just did.

“Well he didn't notice. He didn't notice when his best friend went from a toddler to a teen in less than a week” you joked calmly, without any concern for what Roy might or might not have seen, you knew he would ignore it. But you quickly changed your tone when you saw the expression of your oldest son "Dick, calm down, it's Roy, even if he sees something, the boy won't say anything, he's part of the family, he would have already adopted him if it wasn't for Oliver" you caressed his arm reassuringly, but Dick quickly took your hand to hold it in his.

“Mom, usually I wouldn't doubt your word, but right now I think it's not right to show your abilities so openly” he expressed with concern.

“Well, i'm tired of hiding, son” you exclaim seriously, not wanting to start an argument, but determined to put your family's life in order “And maybe you didn't have to either” you finally declared, smiling lovingly at him .

With that said, you left the room, following the boys and the new pet, leaving your bewildered son in the kitchen.

Dick was beginning to realize things, it was obvious to everyone in the control center outside the anomaly, that it was beginning to breed concern. Yes, Dick exposed his doubts, he could suffer the same fate as Alfred, which would not be so bad for him, but it would leave you, Roy and false Jason in total isolation with no one to question reality.

It had already been made clear by the start of the 80's episode that Roy probably wasn't going to fight the illogic in the world, if you had brought him in to join it was because you were sure he didn't want to leave and that he needed this reality so badly. like you. One way or another, they need someone inside the anomaly who knows the truth and is willing to show it to you when the time is right and you undo what you've done.

“Someone has to come in,” John pointed out, looking at the images on the computer, the first scenes of that day's episode.

“I don't think Dick is in the best shape right now to guide the situation, he just went through puberty again in less than two days, clearly the boy is as unstable as his mother and with good justification” he joked, which caused a silence in the room and even at the time of the screen he could feel the murderous look of Batman, using it "Bad joke, I apologize" he raised his hands in surrender, knowing that he should not push the matter further .

“How could someone walk into the anomaly without y/n getting into their mind and fusing it with their sitcom reality?” Clark asked, confused, having spent most of the last twenty-four hours talking about how even Alfred couldn't understand the whole situation until hours after he'd come out of the anomaly.

“We wouldn't, it would be impossible, since none of our magic can stand against the Scarlet Witch's” Constantine explained calmly, as if he hadn't just expressed a huge dilemma for the situation they were in.

“I don't understand,” Clark said with confusion painted on his face.

“The magic is not directly controlled by y/n, but by her trauma, so all that magic wants is for everything to look and act in a way that makes her happy and doesn't remember losing Jason. Keeping him alive is the priority of magic, and not letting y/n know the truth" Zatanna began to explain “Theoretically speaking, someone mentally strong enough could walk into the anomaly and still be aware of what their mission is, even if more subconsciously, while helping the situation without raising suspicion if they don't raise t/n's suspicion”

“And we try to help this process with some spells and runes on the clothes that we will make sure, it will not need changes for the time in the sitcom, but in any case everything will depend on the mind of the person who enters” Constantine finished expressing.

“Okay, we can work with theory” Clark said, not quite sure how that was supposed to work, but considering that there was no other plan to follow.

“It would be good a distraction to help the situation” commented Flash “If the barrier is connected to y/n as they say” he pointed to the warlocks “She will feel when someone enters, it would be good if she had something more worrying to focus on while we enter to the anomaly”

"What do you have in mind, redhead?" Zatanna asked, looking at the man who grinned from ear to ear like a mischievous child.

"You said that if we send something that doesn't need change, magic might be more likely to ignore it at a certain level?" the boy hinted before starting to explain his idea.

Jason and Roy stood in the living room on either side of Buddy, giving the dog commands and then rewarding him with a dog biscuit when he obeyed, the animal happily doing tricks while you watched with excitement as the children happily interacted with their new pet.

“Bravo” you applauded as the animal made its last lap on its own spot “I can't believe they've been able to teach it so many tricks in such a short time. You are two little geniuses” you point out happily.

“We are very good teachers” Jason said and both boys bumped fists “Where's Dick, I want to show him?” the boy asked, causing your face to lose its happy expression for a second, but you quickly recovered.

“Dick decided to take a break before his trip to college, he needs all his energy” you explained trying to downplay your eldest son's behavior these days.

“He needs to take a break from us,” Jason pointed out irritably. “It's not enough that he's going away from home in a few hours.” He sounded more hurt than angry, which immediately made you feel the need to reassure him that everything was okay.

“No, honey” you said as you stood up and walked towards your son, putting your hand on his shoulders reassuringly “Your brother has a lot on his mind right now, and he and I don't always agree like everyone else. Someday we too will have our arguments and you will discover that sometimes it is better to walk away a bit when you are angry instead of continuing to fight pointlessly” you explained as calmly as possible, when inside you were worried about your eldest son and what might be wrong with him. going on with him. Did he hear something from Alfred before you took him out, had the butler said something to your son that had corrupted him?

“Mom?” Dick called you from the stairs, concerned. You realized that suddenly there had been a noise from outside the house, a dead man and clearly not of this world. Buddy started barking and ran to the door which was now conveniently open.

“Buddy!” Jason said before running after the animal, Roy ran with him.

“Kids, wait” you said before running after him with Dick following you, calling his younger brother worried about him.

Leaving through the main door of the mansion, you quickly made sure to face the children, walking a few extra steps so that they were protected by your figure, while the four of them looked at a small old drone, appropriate for the setting of the episode, in front of the house ready to fire a missile. Fury bubbled up inside you and magic came to your children.

“Dick, take the kids inside and watch a movie” you said to your oldest son without taking your eyes off the danger, “Mommy would be right back”

Clark was the one waiting for you when you stormed out of the anomaly, dressed in the same pajamas and robe you were in when you fought with your husband. The night hung over both of them, contrasting with the afternoon you lived in your fantasy.

Don't push reality on her yet, John had told him before they'd started the plan. Go with the flow and for nothing in the world make any reference to the boy.

“Is this yours?” you asked him before throwing the broken drone at his feet aggressively, but with no real intention of hitting him. Clark looked at the device, whose wires were sticking out and causing sparks, he could hear (literally) Barry sigh sadly at the loss of such an antique.

“The missile was just a precaution” he started to speak, measuring his words carefully “You can hardly blame us, y/n” he pointed resignedly.

“Oh, i think i can and i will” you said, letting your accent drift through each of your words, so that you let those present know how intense the situation was. In all the years that I had worked with the Justice League, I had only rarely heard your accent take control of your pronunciations, none of them had been pretty situations “This will be your only warning” you said angrily “Stay out of my home”

"I wish it could be that simple" Clark said with real sorrow. He didn't want for anything in the world to have to confront you, but seeing you that way and hearing you talk like you did, made him think that the chances that he would recover you from that situation diminished every minute that the anomaly continued to function.

“You don't bother me. I won't bother you.” you told him, not wanting to fight him either, you weren't sure why. He wanted to get away from your children and hurt them, you should have all the desire to tear him apart, but you didn't, you wanted him to understand and accept your offer "It's that simple, Clark" you told him and you both looked into each other's eyes for a few seconds, so you understood that he would not give in “Why do you want to do this, Clark? You were my friend” you said, feeling how the betrayal hurt you.

“I still am, y/n” Clark replied quickly, taking a step forward.

“If he were my friend, you wouldn't want me, separate from my children” you pointed out furiously, causing everyone around to be alert for a possible fight “If he were my friend you would understand that there is no place where he is safer than here, it is his house, with me” you pointed furiously.

“Y/N I-” Clar stopped in her tracks, remembering John's warnings and reformulating her sentence “Just lower the barrier, y/n. Let us in, I promise that no one will move a hair if they don't want it if after that we will discuss what will happen next” Clark offered, although he knew you would not listen, they just needed more time to enter.

“You want me to trust you, but you treat me like a threat” you said pointing around you, at the men with the guns and the rest of the league “Well, i'm not the one with the guns, Clark. And I'm not the one who sends a drone to shoot at a house with children inside” you said and pointed to the device at his feet.

“But you're the one in control” said Alfred appearing walking behind Clark “I just let them in, Mrs. Wayne, they don't plan to harm anyone, they just want to talk” expressed the old man when your eyes connected with his.

“You still here” I said curiously as you formed your magic in one hand “I'm glad that in your betrayal” you looked between the butler and the superman “you both find time to make friends” you scoffed.

“y/n, let us help you” the man begged, sharing the same foolish hope as Clark in front of him.

“How? What could you possibly have to offer me?” you asked, making fun of both of them, you knew that nothing they said would make you give your children away like that. Out there, it was dangerous and they were safe.

“What do you want?” Clark asked, open to anything that would allow him to open a negotiation in this dilemma.

“I have what I want” you said with an impassive face “and no one will ever take it from me again” your voice broke at the end of the sentence, and it was as if for a second you understood the reality of everything that was happening. But in the second term, Alfred and Clark watched as you slipped back into your reverie, turning me around to use your magic to reinforce the barrier and then disappear through it.

“Buddy, come on buddy” Jason yelled as the three of them scoured the property looking for the missing dog “Buddy! Buddy!” kept calling Jason “Where is he?” he asked out loud.

“Don't worry, dude, he must be around here for sure” commented Roy “Your mom won't let him get far” he commented naturally and Jason looked at him strangely, without fully understanding the meaning of the phrase.

“I don't know where he could've gone” you commented while you continued looking for the pet.

“Here, Buddy” Roy called out loud.

"Where are you, Buddy?" called Jason as the three of them resumed their search.

“Mom” called a concerned voice from the trees.

You turned to find your oldest son carrying a bundle wrapped in sheets as he walked away from the bushes.

“Oh no” Roy said, realizing that the bundle Dick was carrying was the deceased puppy that he and his friend had found that morning.

“Buddy” Jason said sadly, he called the puppy, but seeing that it was definitely dead.

“What happened to him?” you asked as you approached, not wanting the children to see the dead animal.

“Found him in the azalea bushes, mom” Dick explained to you as you approached “Don’t know how many leaves he ate. I don't' find him until it was too late” said the older one saddened by the situation, seeing the sad face of his younger brother as he looked at the lump of the corpse of what had been a happy puppy a few hours ago “Jay, Roy, I'm so sorry” he told the boys, clearly dejected by the news.

“Mama” Jason called you in a small voice and you immediately hugged him.

“I'm so sorry, my boy” you said while you caressed his head.

“It's so sad” said Jason, taking off from you and looking at you “You can fix anything, Mom. Fix the dead” he asked you as a little boy.

“What?” you asked confused looking at him “No” you said firmly despite the expression of sadness that brought to the face of your youngest son. You couldn't, you knew for sure you couldn't.

“You can do that?” Dick asked behind you, surprised by his younger brother's words. You turned to look at him for a moment, not knowing what to say, before looking at the floor and back at Jason.

“I am trying to tell you that there are rules in life, okay, honney?” you explained to your younger son while holding his hands “We can't rush aging just because it's convenient” you chuckle “And we can't reverse death” you stared at your younger son “No matter how sad it makes us” you caressed his cheek with some melancholy “Okay? Some things are forever” you felt the gaze of your eldest son fixed on your back as he listened carefully to what you said, you could almost also feel how the gears in his head were moving and you were worried that he might come now to claim you.

“You said family is forever” declared Jason “Buddy is family. Bring him back, Mom” he begged you with tear filled eyes.

“Jay, mom's right” your eldest son finally spoke, pulling you out of the predicament you were in “It's sad, but there's no going back” he pointed out, you turned to look at him and both shared a look before you hugged your younger son again with a lump in your throat that you couldn't explain for sure.

Back at the house, it was already night, Roy and Jason had already gone to sleep. He was finishing tidying up the kitchen when Dick comes in from the yard, his hands full of dirt from burying Buddy's body.

“How are the boys?” he asked her as he walked over to the sink to start washing his hands.

“A little heartbroken, but they'll be alright” she replied as we finished going over the counter and throwing the breadcrumbs in the trash.

“Well, it's not often you get a dog and bury them the same day” Dick said, looking at a fixed point on the wall behind the sink, not really paying attention to what he was doing.

“Well, life moves pretty fast out in the big city” you said calmly, ignoring the implications of your son's sentence. Dick turned off the faucet, leaned on it with both arms, and sighed heavily.

“Mom, we need to talk” he started firmly, and you tried to stay in character even though you knew where the argument was going. “Something's wrong here,” he said directly. To which you laughed a little and looked at him sweetly.

“Dickie, honey” you said leaving the towel on the counter “Can be just-”

“What, mom?” Dick cut you off somewhat annoyed “Sit on the couch, watch TV and turn off the lights, so you can change everything again” he accused directly.

“Richard Grayson-Wayne” you spoke in your mother tone, causing him to straighten instead “You're tired, tomorrow is a very important day and it's not the time to argue after the day this family had” you said in the most kind that you could have.

“Where's Bruce?” he asked, ignoring your request.

“For God's sake, Richard” you sighed tiredly as you walked out of the kitchen and into the living room. Dick followed you out of the room without a second thought, determined to get an answer once and for all. The credits began to appear on the screen and the ending music began to play.

“You said he would call him, he hasn't. Where is dad?” he asked as he followed you past the living room and towards the stairs.

“He's just busy, Dick” you told him, reaching the stairs and turning around to finally look at him.

“Why can't I find my room, mom?” Dick asked you, you couldn't answer him, you just took another step towards the stairs, going up one step, resisting the urge to run away from your son's questions “The mansion has more than 200 rooms, but we only live and have access to four of them. Why is that, mom?” he asked again.

”Dick, stop” you ordered quietly, feeling like your head was going to explode. The music stopped and the credits faded as you realized the argument wasn't going to end any time soon.

“Because every day Jason and I age up to five years? Yesterday I was in high school and today I am going to college. What's going on, mom?” he kept asking desperately.

"You really think I know everything?!" you asked him, breaking your calm “Really what do you think counting everything, every bird flying, every insect flying around the plants. EVERYTHING?!" you asked him, looking at him, but after seeing his expression puzzled by your reaction, you closed your eyes tightly, calming down "I don't even know how this all started" you let your legs give way and sat on the stairs clutching your head.

Dick was stunned for a moment. He wasn't sure what he was expecting him to pass by confronting him, but he wasn't expecting that. He felt the anger leave him, realizing that he wasn't going to fix anything about the situation, whatever it was, it wasn't the way to deal with it.

“Mama” Dick spoke calmly as he sat down next to her “You have to stop this, it's not right” he said, causing you to feel your head full of explosives again. He wasn't really listening to you, what are you supposed to do with all this “We can't-”

DING DONG

Dick, who had approached you, suddenly moved away from you at the sound of the doorbell, looking at me suspiciously. You looked at it before the sound, whose origin you do not know.

“I didn't do that” you told him and they looked at each other for a second. You knew your son had no reason to believe you, but you had hope, which faded when you stared into his eyes. “You don't believe me” you said with a broken heart, resigned,

and got up to open the door.

“Mom, wait” Dick called to you, but you ignored him and continued towards the door.

You opened the door and froze for who was on the other side. He wasn't supposed to be there, it wasn't his place, he was supposed to be out where he belongs. He could protect himself.

“Dad?” Dick spoke, frozen behind you, looking at the man in front of both of us.

You couldn't speak, you were frozen in place, with a mix between relief to finally see him and terror for his presence there, what that could mean for you, for Roy, for Dick and for Jason.

“I forgot the keys at the hotel” said Bruce as he smiled at you, dressed in a black suit according to the time and a briefcase in hand, without having to fake the happiness of finally seeing you again despite the circumstances “I hope I didn't wake up to the boys” he said taking a step inside the house, causing you to automatically move to let him pass but still looking at him mesmerized. Bruce left the briefcase on the floor, then straightened up, facing you again. He gently grabbed your waist and pushed you towards his chest, he delicately kissed your forehead in a gesture full of love before speaking again “I'm home, honey” he told you before you walked away again to look at him again. You smiled lovingly at him, happy that he was finally there with you, they were family finally.

Dick stood there watching, before he heard footsteps upstairs, the doorbell had woken the boys up and when Jason appeared down the stairs he didn't miss his father's discomfort as the boy ran to hug him. Bruce watched him as he let his son's double hug him.

Tim looked at the screen, seeing how now the credits were starting to roll, with the image of the family reuniting with Bruce and then going to a black screen. He turned to look at the tattered suit covered in dried blood, silently praying that Bruce's plan would work.

Pairing: dark!Morpheus x original female character

In His Mercy

Summary: Nura is a dream who dared to leave her Lord's realm and find herself a lover. Morpheus is not happy when he finds out about it.

Warnings: power difference, betrayal, heartbreak, fear, angst, intimidation, threats, rejection, eventual smut, possible dub/noncon in future. Don't Like Don't Read. 18+ only. Minors DNI

since it is my story please expect dark themes and a dark representation of Morpheus.

A/n: The story is set right after Morpheus punishes Gault and the plot of the series is ongoing in the background.

I have not read the comics so this is based purely on what I observed from the show as well as what I could find about him online. This story would contain a darker and upsetting depiction of Dream so if it's not your thing dont read. If you enjoy it let me know! I'd possibly continue this in the future. Thanks for reading.

"You're brave to have returned, but you're too late. His temper has been on a rise these past days and he has never been too forgiving," Lucienne warned her breathlessly.

Nura followed her with hurried steps as she contemplated her words. There was an ache in her chest that warned her about how regrettable it would be for her to meet Dream after leaving his realm for so long. She wished to be ethical and loyal in the decisions of her life, but there was no telling of how understanding he would be for her reasons.

"I hope he would listen to me. I hope he would be merciful, I would like to believe that he would be," Nura said, expecting some validation from Lucienne.

The librarian sighed.

"I would not recommend that you get your hopes high and…" Lucienne stopped short of her steps, just inches outside the gates of the throne room, "I'm sorry for whatever would happen next. Do your best to convince him to forgive you."

Nura gave a nervous nod as she folded her arms around her body.

"I will," Nura said.

She heeded her advice, it was best to accept her mistake and ask for forgiveness from Dream if she were to expect him to listen to her cause for staying in the waking world. But Lucienne’s troubled expression did not do anything to put her at ease. Nura bit her lip and attempted to calm herself with deep breaths as the librarian opened the grand gates of Dream’s throne room. Only she could muster the courage to enter his chambers without prior permission.

With reluctance, Nura went inside after Lucienne. Their entrance echoed with their footfalls on the cold marble floor which was not dirtied with the debris and shambles of Dream’s decaying palace anymore. She raised her head to examine the reformed structure of the throne room, gaping in awe at how its beauty had been restored now that the King had returned. For a moment, her admiration of the palace and its decorative designs distracted her from the cold and stinging presence of her Lord. Until Lucienne decided to gather his attention.

"My lord, forgive us for this interruption, but there is someone who wishes to seek an audience with you."

Nura turned her gaze to him. Her chest thrummed with the speeding throbs of her heart invoked just by his sight. And he was not even entirely visible to her.

Books were lined and arranged neatly around him, the stacks appearing as rails that began at his throne and ended five or six steps beyond his seat. The rest of the stairwell remained empty as ever while he sat comfortably on his throne with a thick book covering his face. Only his body and his spiking hair strands were visible from the distance at which Nura was standing. And that was enough to have her shudder in anticipation of his judgment.

Dream closed the book after making them wait for a few minutes. He dropped it on the stack pile next to his throne and bent forward. His cold and dark eyes narrowed in on her as his lips puckered into a distasteful grimace.

"Nura," he said with a great enunciation of every letter and syllable, "so you have finally decided to return."

The grim depth of his voice and the disappointment laced in it made her heart jolt. She exchanged a nervous glance with Lucienne before stepping forward to greet Dream.

"My lord,” she bowed her head with a hand on her heart to show him her respect, “it is so delightful to see you again and in good health.”

She truly was happy to see him safe after hearing what the humans had done to him. He was intimidating and authoritative, but he was her Creator and he had mostly been kind and sweet to her, he did not deserve to be treated like that. No one did.

Dream gave a mocking scoff, blinking his eyes slowly in the angry way that he did as he rose to his feet. He sauntered down the marble steps, running the dainty fingers of his left hand along the covers of the books.

"Not enough for you to return sooner," he said.

The muscles on his face twitched even as he attempted to not express his emotions to her. Nura squeezed her arms in her hands, wondering if she should have followed the ways of the Corinthian and focused on running away instead of coming to her displeased Lord.

He paused after the fourth step and picked up a book to read. She was relieved to have his piercing eyes away from her.

She swallowed the knot in her throat and gathered the courage to speak.

"Yes, and I apologize for that, my lord. But I do have my reasons," she said.

"What reasons would justify you leaving my realm and doing something that goes against your purpose, Nura?" He asked, peering at her from the corner of his eye.

"I confess…I did step out of the line but I could not keep myself within this realm for long once you were gone, sir,” she explained.

Nura recalled the moment she decided to enter the realm of humans, the excitement she had felt at the thought of visiting them, especially those dreamers with whom she was already familiar.

“I wished to see them and feel what it is like to be one of them. I had to know—"

“Step out of the line? Dreams do not belong in the waking world yet you talk about violating the rules so casually,” Morpheus chided her.

“It was not my intention to defy my purpose or you, my lord!”

"Then why did you leave and why did you not return?"

"Because—” Nura quivered and pressed her lips together. She debated with herself about telling him of her true intentions. However, she needed to discuss her reasons with him. Without his permission, she could never return to the waking world and be happy among the humans.

She sucked a breath through her teeth and spoke, “because I do not wish to return, my lord."

"What?" Dream snapped his head at Nura, his eyebrows raised in shock at her audacity.

Nura scratched her knuckles as her nerves rattled with anxiety. She urged herself to speak the truth and speak it quickly.

"I–I wish to stay in their realm."

The scrunched lines on his face suggested that he was only more and more aggravated by her words.

"What has their realm to offer you that cannot be sought here?"

Nura paused at his question and ground her teeth. She thought of the man, the human who she yearned to stay with, who offered her everything that the realm did not even with all its beauty and treasures. She hated that she had to speak of him with such sourness.

“Answer me!” Dream roared at her.

She flinched and turned her eyes to Lucienne who had her head low with fear as well. There was nothing that she could do to mediate the situation between her and Dream. Nura did not want her to risk her head either.

"Forgive me— my lord. But I— I have fallen in love with a human and I wish to stay with him in their realm."

Lucienne gasped and widened her eyes at Nura.

Morpheus snapped the book shut and placed it on its stack before he turned to her with a frightening frown.

"What did you say?" He demanded.

"I–I'm sorry, my lord, but I love him dearly and I wish to spend my time with him."

"How dare you?" He growled, stomping his feet down the stairs.

The books fell from the vibration of his rage.

Nura stepped back in fear, her eyes tearing up at his reaction. He halted in the middle of the stairwell to look at his librarian.

"Lucienne, leave us alone," he ordered her.

"Yes, sir," Lucienne answered swiftly.

She gave Nura a helpless and sorry glance through her spectacles before she rushed out of the throne room, leaving the runner Dream alone to face the wrath of her Lord.

Nura watched her lord with pleading eyes as she trembled on her spot.

"You wish to stay with him. Are you a fool? Have you forgotten who you are? Have you forgotten who made you?"

"No, my lord! I will always be grateful to you, always in your devotion—but I could not help it—"

"You would refuse your service and break your loyalty to your lord, your creator for a mere mortal."

"My lord,” Nura folded her palms in front of her face, pointing them at him in a prayer for his mercy, “I beg you for your forgiveness. I apologise for this but I wish that you would see that I only act out of love."

"Is your love for that human not a betrayal of me, of your duties?” Dream asked.

His question left her without words.

“Not only have you betrayed me in your actions but also in your heart…and you dare come to my throne room expecting me to spare you for your transgressions."

Tears spilt down her cheeks as she found it difficult to contain them. She touched her quivering lips with her fingers and pressed back her whimpers with them.

"I want you to be merciful," Nura begged in her broken voice.

He stood undeterred by the sight of her tears and pain. There was not even a hint of empathy in his frigid face.

"And I wanted you to be loyal and dutiful. But you are not, so tell me, what shall your punishment be then?"

Nura panicked at the suggestion of punishment. He was not known to be lenient in them. It broke her heart to see him arrive at that conclusion so quickly. She had foolishly expected him to be more considerate of who she was and her dedicated service to him, but he cared none of it.

She thought of Lucienne’s advice and understood that she had to bend to his will to ensure her own safety.

"My lord, you must let me know how I can earn your forgiveness!"

"Defy me and then ask for forgiveness. You disappoint me,” Dream said with a shake of his head. “But before I decide what to do with you, I must see to this human that you have fallen in love with."

Nura widened her eyes at him in horror. Her lover should not have to face the consequences of her actions.

"No! No, there’s no need!" Nura protested.

“And you will not be leaving the Dreaming anymore,” Dream said.

Nura screamed and ran to him to stop him from reaching her beloved, but he was gone in a gust of sand within seconds. She was left with only fear and misery as everything fell apart around her.

With a heavy heart and tearful eyes, she ran to the royal Library to find Lucienne.

“Lucienne! Lucienne! Where are you?” She cried as she sprinted between the shelves searching for a sign of the librarian.

“Nura? What happened?” Lucienne emerged from behind a shelf with multiple books in her hands.

Nura stopped before she would have collided with the woman. She only sobbed when she looked at the librarian who had warned her of such a fate.

“What happened, dear? Where is he?”

Nura’s voice came out as a hitched breath when she tried to speak.

“Oh dear, what has he done? What did he say?” Lucienne inquired.

“Come, sit first,” she said, holding Nura by her arm and dragging her to a nearby table.

Nura let herself be carried along by Lucienne, finding no strength in her body to do anything.

“I think— I think he is going to kill him! My Zak!” Nura spoke in panic as she sank on a chair. “And I cannot leave, you have to do something, please help me!”

Lucienne rubbed her arm to soothe her.

“I doubt that he would punish someone else for your mistakes, Nu,” she said.

“But he said so! He said that he will see to him!”

“Perhaps in other ways. I do not believe that he would kill him. Not when he is not the one responsible. He might have meant something less, but even so, unfortunately, I cannot help you.”

“I know,” Nura sniffled.

She lowered her eyes to her lap and hoped that Dream would not hurt her lover in any way. The Dream King could not be so cruel and unjust. And if he was, she had to blame herself for endangering her Zak.

“There is nothing I can do either. I thought he would forgive, but he is so heartless. How can he do this to me?”

“He is our lord, our King and our Creator,” Lucienne said as she patted her back softly.

“And, Nu, as much as I care for you, I cannot entirely support what you have done and intended to do. It is true that you are an entity of the Dreaming and you cannot remain in the waking world. It’s not right.”

“It’s not fair!” Nura slapped a hand on the table. “He can take lovers, can’t he? Then why can’t I?”

“Well, that has not ended well for him either, has it? You can’t fall in love with a mortal, my dear,” Lucienne insisted.

“That’s not in my control!” Nura reverted.

She was a Dream, a creation of Morpheus, but she still felt for the humans, she did have strivings of her own. When she found herself getting lost in the lovely dreams of Zak, she had not intended to defy or offend Morpheus. She had only wanted to make her own dreams come true.

“I wish that he had never given me the ability to think or feel for myself. He could have made us be just puppets who dance on his whim.”

“It is not only that you know, Nura…you’re special to him,” Lucienne said.

Nura looked at her with puzzlement.

“How?” She asked

“You’re still here. He hasn’t damned you in any way. Gault did not last this long. You do know that he favours you slightly more than others, he has always been a little more fond of you since your creation,” the librarian told her.

The information only agitated Nura more. She would rather he not care for her and leave her be than be bound by his affection for her.

“And I should feel good about that?”

Lucienne looked at her and sighed. Nothing was convincing to her, it was much like talking to Dream.

“I don’t know. But perhaps knowing that you’ve broken his heart more than others by leaving in this manner can help you see what you can do to save yourself from his wrath.”

“What a way to live? Always in fear of him, obeying him always and—”

“As it should be,” his murky voice interrupted your conversation, startling both her and Lucienne at once.

His tall and slender form appeared in front of them. He strolled forward from between the bookshelves, carrying subtle hints of ire and disgust on his face. Nura remained frozen in her seat, but Lucienne walked away quickly, leaving her alone with their unforgiving lord once again.

Dream studied Nura’s tear-stricken face as he approached her. She balled her hands into fists on top of the wooden table and her chest heaved in anxiety and anger at her lord’s actions.

“You should not forget yourself, your duties and your master, Nura,” he told her.

“Did you kill him?” Nura asked.

Dream came to a stop at the edge of the table, staring down at her with dark and icy eyes. Nura did her best to meet them with equal fervour but her will wavered at the intensity of his fury.

"I did not kill him,” he answered.

Relief washed over Nura’s heart at the news and a brief smile appeared on her face. It faded just as quickly as Dream circled to her and removed the chair that was placed between them. Nura jumped up from her seat as he inched closer, wanting desperately to be away from him.

“It is not a mortal's fault that an entity from the Dreaming strayed so disgustingly away from her path and seduced him in a bid to use love as a tool of manipulation for her Lord,” he snarled at her.

His words made her want to shrink in herself and disappear. They made her disgusted in herself as if her love was never pure and was just a tool of deception.  She had not seen it in that way. She had not acknowledged what could be wrong with her actions. Nura had acted out of her curiosity about the humans and her love for one of them, what could be wrong with that?

“No, that wouldn't be fair. However, he would not remember ever seeing you, meeting you or falling in love with you…as it is supposed to be."

Nura gasped at the revelation of what he had done to her lover. He had spoiled everything. Her eyes became full to the brim again, blurring his image to her as she glared at him.

“You’re cruel,” she said.

“I’m not. Not yet,” he replied.

He moved towards her with slow steps. A part of Nura wished to punch him in the face and accept the consequences that would come with it, but the other part was terrified of what her punishment would be. She had not been a rebellious one in spirit ever before and her will was not strong enough for her to openly defy her Master, she was no match for him.

“I’ve yet to decide how to punish you, my Nura,” he said as he cornered her into the wall behind her.

“Should I cast you into the darkness? Should I turn you into a Nightmare?”

Nura mewled at his proposals and the discomforting proximity between them as if being near to him in his rage would be enough for her to burn into flames. His suggestions for her punishment had her shivering even more. She lowered her head and sobbed, not having the courage to look him in the eye.

“Or should I just uncreate you?”

Nura put a hand over her mouth to muffle her whimper. Dream simply observed her in silence as she crumbled before him. It was impossible for her to even move as her hands brushed against his coat and shirt at every twitch. He had her trapped between himself and the wall and it seemed that he savoured the sheer panic that he created in her with his ideas of her suffering. That was what he wanted, for the defiant to fear him and be reminded of who their Master was.

“Please, let me seek your forgiveness, my lord,” Nura begged.

He gave her no reply. He stood there and bore his eyes into her as she struggled to collect herself. Nura had known of Dream’s ruthlessness, but she had never experienced how utterly cold and harsh he was capable of being, even to those who had been nothing but devoted to him through endless times.

“I can’t yet decide on what I will do to you,” Dream said, finally breaking the painful silence between them.

He took a small step back from her while keeping his eyes pinned on her face.

“But I will soon. You’re not to leave the Dreaming until then nor indulge with the humans when they visit. And it will do you good to stay out of my sight until I call you,” he said.

Nura watched him in a daze and confusion as he passed his uncertain judgement. She could not make sense of it and he did not provide any clarifications. He only gave her a last glower of repulsion before he stormed out of her sight and out of the library.

While she was relieved that he had left her without delivering a swift punishment, she did not understand the reason behind his decision to make her wait. She wanted to believe that by wanting to keep her out of his sight he was giving her the opportunity to save herself from his wrath. But by forbidding her from leaving the Dreaming and from even performing her duties, he left her with nothing to do but to constantly hide in a realm that belonged to him. Perhaps, that was her punishment, to be trapped without any purpose and be plagued forever with fear.

If it was her punishment, Nura favoured it against the other possibilities that he had presented to her. But she knew that she would eventually come to face her suffering. At least she could still talk to others in the Dreaming and she intended to reach out to Lucienne for comfort and answers. In the realm, the librarian was the only one who could help her through her knowledge and her books. Or so she hoped.

𝐅𝐀𝐍𝐅𝐈𝐂 𝐌𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐋𝐈𝐒𝐓.

 .
 .

You looked at your youngest son, Jason, smiling at you from under one of the trees in the new property your family just moved into, you smiled back at him genuinely happy and held out your arms at him, the little five-year-old ran to you immediately. That tree, you had to get him away from that tree.

“Mom, this new house is huge” the boy said happily as you rested him on your hip without fear of ruining the neatness of your ironing.

“It is” you started “Your father and I learned our lesson about you and your brother's incompatibility with small yards after the the Halloween fire incident” you explain and the audience laughed at the past antics of the Wayne children. Jason smiled innocently as he thought about the incident even if he didn't remember it, he had been very young at the time, surely that was why “So he made sure there was plenty of room for both of you to run around in this new house” You turned on your spot, starting to walk towards the house where you both appeared walking in through the kitchen door immediately. You walked over to the island and sat Jason there, he immediately reached over to grab the glass cookie jar in the center of the surface to eat one of Alfred's famous cookies.

“Don't eat too many of those, young Master” the butler appeared from an unidentified door, you smiled at him as he came to stand next to you in front of little Jason “Tonight we have guests and i'm preparing some of the family favorite dishes” commented the man while confiscates the cookie jar, leaving only the one cookie the boy had managed to grab before his appearance for him to eat. You frowned in confusion.

“Guests?” you ask somewhat confused, you didn't remember having planned that. Alfred turned on his way to hide the cookies to look at you.

“The guests Mr. Wayne asked us to entertain in his absence, Mrs. Wayne, you remember?” questioned the butler before leaving without waiting for an answer through the door that led to the living room. You stood in place, bringing your hand dramatically up to your face to make a thoughtful face and Jason decided to interrupt his eating to mimic your face, the audience laughing and sighing tenderly at that. Seeing him you laughed too and leaned closer to your child.

“Do you remember which guests Alfred is talking about, my boy?” you asked, narrowing your eyes.

“Nope” Jason replied sweetly, shrugging his shoulders, causing more tenderness to the audience. You couldn't help but have a sudden urge to hug your beautiful baby tightly while kissing his cheek and your son just laughed happily at your actions.

Alfred walked back into the kitchen as you lowered the boy from the counter to stand on the floor next to you, blinding the audience for a second before they saw the little boy run out of the kitchen with his cookie in hand, brushing past the butler causing him a smile.

“I guess we have to prepare for those guests then” you said as you rested your arms on your hips and sighed dramatically “Do you already know what you will cook for our guests, Alf?” you asked, intending to help.

“Don't worry about a thing, Mrs. Wayne” the butler commented, walking towards you and standing behind you, to start pushing you towards the door where Jason had disappeared with his cookie “I will take care of everything and nothing will go wrong tonight. You just relax and spend some time chilling out with young master Jason” When you were at the door Alfred stopped pushing at it, expecting you to make it the rest of the way out of the kitchen on your own, but you turned and insisted.

“You don't want magical help?. It will be easier that way, besides, I already have the apron on” you commented smiling pointing at your outfit while making a gesture to mimic your powers.

“Goodbye, Mrs. Wayne” Alfred said as he pushed you out the kitchen door.

You were pushed out the door, but on your way through you didn't stumble, but instead walked calmly through the doorway into an unmarked hallway, entering the living room. You looked back confused by the strange change, but all doubts were erased from your mind when you saw your little one sitting in front of the television in one of the couches. You sighed loudly.

“That man has always been very territorial with his kitchen” you commented and the audience laughed, walking towards the couche and Jason looked at you when he heard you approach “Jason Peter Wayne” you exclaimed without any aggression, more amused by the chocolaty disaster that was your son's face that angry and he looked at you with puppy dog eyes in response “My son and his precious chocolate chip cookies” you commented accusingly, with a dramatic movement of both hands Jason's face was clean again, the crumbs on his lap and the couch disappeared and all accompanied by a sound of bells to represent your magic.

“My mother and her magical magic” commented the boy mischievously, the audience laughed again at that while you shook your head at his behavior while looking lovingly at him. You'd missed him, which was weird because you didn't remember being separated from him much since he'd come to you.

“Jason, honey” you started realizing that something is missing in the scene “Do you have any idea where your brother is?” you asked suddenly worried about the fate of your eldest son.

“I saw him looking for his comics a while ago” Jason replied and at that moment there was a knock, followed by a child's cry. Alfred appeared down the hall, drawn by the noise, while you quickly marched to the threshold on the other side of the room, leaving Jason with the butler behind.

You appeared in a kind of entrance hall, with the main door of the house, some decorative furniture, a coat rack where there were four coats perfectly hung. One for each family member, the largest being Bruce. Bruce, he was away on business. On the other side of the threshold was a huge staircase that led to the second floor, on which you found your eldest son, his comic abandoned at the foot of the last step and he was crouched with a bleeding knee a little higher.

“Dikie, my dear” you quickly approached him, crouching down in front of him while you examined his wound "What happened?" questions while sitting next to him to hug him against your side, seeing that his crying did not stop with your presence, but he did not answer immediately, he kept sobbing “Alfred!” you called, not too loud because it was not necessary and it worked. Immediately Alfred crossed the threshold through which you just came “Bring the first aid case” you told him and he nodded before disappearing again.

While all this was happening Dick's mind was going a thousand miles an hour. He don't understand the world around him, its size, and its lack of colors. Why had he been running up the stairs in the first place?. He couldn't remember and that scared him. Contradictory ideas of what had happened crossed in his mind, until he finally saw the comic lying at the foot of the stairs and it occurred to him.

“I-I found my-i com-mic and” he began to say between sobs, but was not able to finish putting together the facts of the day, and realizing that you decided to finish the job for him, at the same time that you caressed his hair with affection.

“And so much excitement in one day made you decide to run down the stairs?” you asked and the boy pulled away from you to nod as he wiped his tears with the sleeve of his extremely expensive wool sweater.

“My knee hurts” he commented with a fine voice looking where his hand was, which was where he supposed there must be a wound and as if he had been called by his words Alfred appeared with a small medicine briefcase.

“Here you are, Mrs. Wayne" he said as he handed her the object to you, which was sure to be red but it wasn't.

"Let's see what we have here" you said and as you opened it you found just what was needed, a bandage with drawings of birds "Perfect" you said smiling as you left the suitcase now empty to proceed to put the bandage on the wound. Dick didn't see blood or a wound at all, his mother wouldn't let him get hurt, but still, he went along with the plot and looked at his mother.

You were beautiful. He had always thought you were the prettiest mother in the world along with… with another person, his father couldn't agree more, and if he saw you now he would probably drool, to which he and Jason made fun of him. Jason, his little brother.

What had happened to Jason?

And as if Dick's though was an alarm, the little boy with curly hair and a cheerful smile entered through the same doorway Alfred had come through, looking at his brother with a worried expression. A sudden wave of relief washed over Dick, because Jason was there, safe and sound, walking quickly towards him when he saw that his older brother was distraught. But it was strange to see him like that, so young, to the point that for a moment he wondered if it was really Jason, but looking into his eyes it was unmistakable that this five-year-old boy was his younger brother. There was no doubt.

"Are you feeling better, Dikie?" you asked affectionately when you noticed how your older son's body relaxed when his younger brother appeared in the room, and you mentally fooled yourself for not having brought him earlier, surely Dick had been worried that his brother was fine. You caressed his back as you looked at him carefully.

"I.." Dick was silent for a moment, he looked at you and then at his little brother, then he realized something "I'm fine. Everything is fine, mom" finally he said looking at you, feeling completely comfortable to be there and happier than he had been in a lot of time.

You smiled at your son when you realized that the three of you were finally together, with Alfred looking at from the doorway with a mixture of emotions that he didn't let you see.

Dinner was underway, Alfred as always was on time for the arrival of the guests, while you were in Jason's room, helping him to finish putting on his elegant sweater for the occasion. Dick came through the door already fully dressed, the eight-year-old boy didn't need your help getting dressed, but no doubt you had helped him choose the clothes, that's how you always did.

“Mom” Dick called while in his brother's room, somewhat confused by the situation but not letting that feeling of relief and heady calm go. He liked that feeling.

“Yes honey?” you turned around causing the new dress you had put on for the occasion to flourish in the air with elegance, as soon as you laid eyes on your eldest son you had to contain a small aww at how cute your little man looked “Look at you, my little bird” You approached him, bending down to adjust his jacket so he hid the suspenders, leaving only a little of the shirt to be seen. “One day you are going to be a heartbreaker” you commented, wrinkling your nose with tenderness.

“Mom” Dick grumbled sheepishly, looking down as his cheeks turned pink, though no one could see the color yet.

“Is Dick going to be a jar breaker?” Jason asked from where he was sitting on the bed, causing the audience to laugh.

"No, Jaybird," Dick began, turning away from his mother and walking over to his brother's bed to sit next to him on the bed "Heartbreaker, as in hearts," he explained patiently as Jason watched him intently, hanging on every word his older brother said to him. It reminded Dick of when he was looking at him while they both used to... they used to...

"That means" you sat across from Jason, watching as your son left his place inside his mind to return to the moment "that your brother will have a lot of girlfriends and boyfriends one day" you explained to him while you arranged a rebellious strand that fell on the forehead of your youngest son, putting it back in his place.

"That is good?" he asked confused "Because Alfred always gets mad when we break his jars." The innocent tone caused the audience, you and Dick to laugh. As they did, Dick remembered why he had gone to find his mom in the first place.

"Mother?" he asked, you stopped laughing and gave him that look you always give him when you want to say tell me anything, you can tell me anything and ask any question without fear "What's so important today?" he asked curiously.

"Oh" exclamation as you put your hands on your lap thinking what to say because the truth is you weren't very sure what tonight's dinner was about "Well, it's a very important dinner for your father" you commented with confidence.

"Why is this dinner important to Dad?" Jason asked, now concentrating on the reason for the conversation, because he wanted to know too. He puzzled you by the question too, because you weren't too sure either.

"Well, your father invited some very important people to dinner" you stated as confidently as you could, if you showed that you didn't know what was going on your children panicked and you wanted them to feel safe. They were safe, they were safe as long as they were there with you.

"Who are the guests?" Jason asked, immediately followed by his older brother.

“And why are they so important?” Dick spoke, Jason nodded at his brother's question, showing his approval.

“Well…” you weren't sure what to say.

“Is it for a birthday?” Jay asked.

“No, it's not anyone's birthday” you clarified, more to yourself than to the children, trying to fit the pieces of the puzzle before explaining to your children the importance of the occasion.

“Is it an anniversary?” Dick asked now.

“No, it's not that either” you put your hand to your chin while you thought. The audience laughed.

“A holiday?” the elder asked again.

“Is it because of the «adult business» ?” Jason asked disappointed, he hated the adult business meetings they had when Bruce was home, and immediately a light went on in his head.

“Yes” is happily soothing, looking back at the children “It's certainly a business meeting, so you must behave yourself” you bend down and finish arranging your youngest son's hair “Okay?” You looked at them seriously, your children had a habit of getting into trouble when these meetings happen, mainly because they were bored.

“Yes, mom” they both said in chorus, which caused a smile on your face.

“Okay” you finished the conversation about dinner “Dick, can you help your brother put on his shoes while I go to prepare the table for our guests?” questions and the boy silently nodded in response “Perfect, I'll see you when you're ready” you said as you left the room.

Dick and Jason stood there in silence for a moment. Dick wasn't sure what to do, first because he didn't know where you kept Jason's shoes and second because he felt lost without you there, because you were the main story of the show, so he wasn't sure what was next. Jason was the one who will be in charge of guiding him quickly.

“Dick” called the younger brother.

“Yes, Jason?” asked Dick somewhat confused by the mischievous gleam in his little brother's eyes.

“I saw Alfred go with the cookie jar back to the kitchen to hide it” he began as a smile spread across his face, Dick smiled back as he nodded at the silent implication of that phrase. He now knew what they must do.

In the dining room, a room with a large window facing the patio with a table with eight chairs, you used your magic to make the plates fly to the table, followed by the utensils and the wine glasses. You are preparing only five places at the table, because Alfred had insisted on not being part of the dinner tonight so that he could attend to the important guests in the best possible way, and you were not one to argue against the butler's wishes.

You have barely convinced him to let you set the table for dinner. He was very adamant that you should spend time with your kids for some reason, probably just wanted him to rest from the stressful move. Yes, it was probably just that.

DING DONG

“The guests are here” you said to yourself, making sure to place the last flowers in the vase on the head table, they were white roses, and then smoothed down the front of your dress before walking into the room.

You were nervous because you still didn't know who these guests were and what they wanted, but you were confident that if Bruce had sent them it would be fine, so you smiled as you entered the entrance hall to receive the couple. It was a fleshy white-haired couple, in their fifties, but they seemed to be in good shape and particularly the woman looked like she had a lot of energy, her print dress helped her image. The man seemed serious, like all businessmen, he didn't even smile when you greeted him and invited them to sit in the living room while dinner finished preparing.

“It's a pleasure to have you here, Mr. and Mrs...” you stopped in your sentence when you realized that you didn't know the names of your guests.

“Mr. Hart and I are very happy to be the first guest in be invited to the new home, Mrs. Wayne” Mrs. Hart replied as everyone sat on the couch.

“Where is Mr. Wayne?” Mr. Hart asked seriously “You can't have a business dinner if the businessman isn't in the house” he complained, waving his arms around, showing the room. You laughed nervously at his insistence, he wasn't the first person that day to ask where Bruce was and make you uncomfortable for some reason.

“Well, my beloved husband had a last-minute business trip” you started explaining “But he left me and our children in charge to receive you for dinner” you said smiling, trying not to show your lack of certainty about the totality of the situation.

“Oh, the Wayne kids” Mrs. Hart exclaimed dreamily “I'm so excited to meet you” she took your hands and squeezed them comfortingly.

Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Alfred had gone to the dining room to set up the table with the appetizers, leaving the place unattended where two small pairs of feet entered without making much noise with a precise aim. Cause trouble.

“I adore children, even though Mr. Hart and I never had our own” the woman explained wistfully, looking at her husband who instead of sharing his story was looking around with a frown, but she paid no attention to him and continued talking to you.

In the kitchen, Dick was helping his younger brother up onto the counter next to the stove, where a pot of hot soup was ready to be served. Once Jason was firmly on his feet he quickly took it upon himself to climb up as well to stand next to him and they began opening the cabinets for the cookies.

“Tell me: What are their names? And how old are they?” Mrs. Hart ask excited about the topic of conversation.

“My oldest son is Richard, but everyone calls him Dick” you started posting.

“Children can be cruel” Mr. Hart commented candidly, and the audience laughed. The joke took you by surprise but you decided to ignore it and continue.

“He's eight years old, he'll be nine in December” we continued talking “And Jason, he'll be six in August” you finished with a smile thinking about how your youngest son would be another year older.

Dick opened one of the walkers on the stove, stood on tiptoe as he maneuvered the cabinet door open, and peered inside for the cookie jar, but began to lose his balance just as Alfred set the appetizers down. ready on the table and started on his way to the living room to announce that dinner was ready.

“They sound adorable, I can't wait to meet them” Mrs. Hart enthused.

"They are adorable and they are very good kids too" you said with a bright smile.

BAAM.

Dick ended up losing his balance while trying to close the cupboard door again and the pot of soup crashed to the floor, staining the entire kitchen with its creamy texture, including your two children who are now covered in food ruining their clothes and staining their faces.

“Mrs. Wayne” Alfred called, successfully hiding his concern, which you couldn't do very well because at the sound your eyes widened at the multiple scenarios running through your head as to what could have caused the noise.

“Yes, Alfred” answered with a small voice.

“What was that?” Mr. Hart asked irritably.

“I think it's time to guide our guests to the table and go find the young masters” he commented calmly to which you quickly jumped out of the chair.

“YES” you yelled “Great idea, Alfred” you turned to the guest couple who looked more than confused “Mr. and Mrs. Hart, follow Alfred into the dining room and enjoy the appetizers while I go find the kids who I'm sure are somewhere in the house on their best behavior,” you said and the audience laughed.

“Everything is alright?” Mrs. Hart asked as you left the room.

“Yes, yes, everything is in order, nothing to worry about” you answered a little too quickly before running away from the room.

Jason and Dick looked at each other knowing that nothing good could come of this, but when they tried to go down, the younger one slipped on the soup that stained the counter under his feet, Dick rushed to try to catch him but he also slipped on the ground. As both children fell, all their weight rested on the refrigerator, which in turn fell sideways to hit a piece of furniture that fell forward and pushed another piece of furniture full of fine china that fell sideways, locking the door and letting everything plates and glasses crash to the floor causing even more noise.

CRASH

You leaned your whole body against the door as you reached the door, only to find that it wouldn't open in the slightest, something was blocking it.

“Boys?” you called through the door “Boys, are you there?” you asked.

“Here we are, mom, and we're fine” said Dick from his place still on the counter, they couldn't go down now the floor is not only slippery but also full of sharp glass. He wouldn't risk Jason getting hurt.

“We tried Alfred's soup” Jason said “It's delicious” the audience laughed but you were anything but amused by the situation.

“Oh Dear” you sighed. visualizing your children covered in soup at a less than an opportune moment “Why can't I open the door?” you tried to push but whatever was blocking your way was too heavy for you.

“A large piece of furniture fell in front of the door and the floor is full of glass, we can't get close” Dick explained regretfully, they didn't want to cause such a mess, they just wanted the cookies and they hadn't even found them.

“What happened?” Alfred asked coming to your side.

“A piece of furniture is blocking the door, the soup is on the floor and the crockery has now turned into very expensive confetti” you quickly explained, turning to look at him.

“Okay, Mrs. Wayne, it's time to use your magic and solve this problem” he said.

“But you don't like magic being used in your kitchen” you replied confused.

“Considering that the crockery has been smashed, the soup used as a rug, and the young masters are still trapped in there, if we don't open the door right now there probably won't be any kitchen to take care of tomorrow, Mrs. Wayne” he explained quickly and couldn't have more sense to you.

“Good point” you said, the audience laughed as you got into position to use your magic, but when you moved your hands nothing happened, you try again and nothing happened “It doesn't work” you repeated the movement in a desperate attempt but again it didn't happen nothing “What's going on!?” you asked desperately

“I told you to rest today, Mrs. Wayne, it's probably the stress” Alfred said quickly, consoling you.

“Oh, this is not good” you said.

“Ms. Wayne?” Mrs. Hart yelled from the dining room.

“Just a second” you replied with a fake cheerful tone before looking back at the butler “What are we going to do?” questions.

“Don't worry, I'll look for the keys to the door that leads to the patio while you distract the guests” Alfred said and walked in the opposite direction, you went to follow him but you realized that you had to go the other way and you turned to walk to the dining room. The audience laughed.

In the living room you sat at the table with the guests, starting to eat the appetizers, they tried to pretend that nothing was wrong, but Mr. Hart was suspicious and it was clear by the way he looked at you, but his wife was more than happy to ignore it.

" “And tb children?” Mrs. Hart asked as she bit into one of her meatloaf pies.

“Oh, they're finishing up their toys before they eat” you explained as we finished pouring some wine into your glass.

“But you should eat first” said Mrs. Hart sweetly.

“Nonsense, my dear” interrupted Mr. Hart “Two children with a father not present on business, these two need a steady hand or they will become good for nothing. It's fair, they don't order their toys they don't eat” from him he stuffed a whole canape into his mouth roughly.

“I wouldn't say they don't eat” you defended “But if you have to order before eating because they definitely won't do it later, they always get sleepy” you finished explaining and drank your glass of wine “Also, most of the time are very well behaved children of time” you finished.

“Most of the time?” questioned Mr. Hart suddenly.

Alfred entered the room quietly, he passed behind you giving you a meaningful look: you had to keep distracting the Harts because he still hadn't found the key.

“Well, they are children, you know how they are” you commented laughing, but the serious face of Mr. Harte told you that the man did not enjoy jokes much, so you left that “All children have their moments of curiosity” Alfred walked out of the room back into the hallway “And that curiosity can get to-” BAMM-CRASH, the butler had to use force to pry open a particularly jammed drawer “Accidents, something always ends up breaking” You let out a nervous laugh.

“Ms. Wayne” Alfred called as he stood in the doorway.

“Yes Alfred?” you yelled, unable to stop looking at Mr. Hart who was looking at you suspiciously.

“The young masters want you to confirm that their toys are tidy and that they are free to sit down to dinner” he said neutrally but I knew right away what he meant.

“Of course, you have to see those toys” she joked as she got up from the table.

“Make sure it's neatly arranged in alphabetical order” demands Mr. Hart and you couldn't help but give him a look for it.

“Don't talk nonsense” his wife told him “Go find them” he told you happily “I can't wait to meet those little angels” he encouraged you.

“I'll do that” you answered with the same enthusiasm and walked down the hall with Alfred until you reached the kitchen door.

“The keys to the patio door are nowhere to be found” he began to explain “And I'm afraid the cabinet is too stuck in front of the door to try to push it”.

“Oh Dear, oh Dear” you started to babble.

“Mrs. Wayne, you need to calm down” Alfred requested.

“The children are locked in the kitchen, along with the food, and our guests are waiting in the dining room” you pointed out “I think it's a good time for a little panic, Alfred”

“Panic is not going to get us out of this situation” Alfred pointed out, which caught your attention and you looked at him, but the man ignored him “Getting the children out requires us to be focused” he clarified and you decided to ignore his mistake, it wasn't that serious.

“Maybe one of the windows” you pointed out hopefully.

“No, they were all closed” he said.

“Mrs. Wayne!!” you heard Mrs. Hart as she got up from her chair and walked toward you in a suitably slow manner.

“Oh no” you groaned in anguish “We need an entrance, an entrance, an entrance to the kitchen” and as if they were connected, you and Alfred looked at each other as the solution came to your mind.

“The Unidentified Door!!” you two yelled and started running.

As they rounded the corner at the end of the hall they suddenly found themselves walking through the unmarked door into the kitchen, which Alfred had appeared through that morning, just like that. You still didn't know what the point of the door was but you were thankful for it because Mrs. Hart was coming to the door.

“Ms. Wayne” called the woman, dangerously close to the door, you ran to the opposite side of the covered door and approached your children “Where are they?” It was almost in front of the door, so you made a quick movement with your hands: the soup disappeared from the floor and returned to its place in the pot, the children's clothes were cleaned as well as their faces, the floor, and both furniture fell back into place at the same time that glass returned to the expensive crockery that Bruce had inherited from his parents. Mrs. Hart came through the door at that moment to find you carrying your youngest son on your hip, Dick sitting innocently on the island, and Alfred stirring the soup “Here you are” she exclaimed.

“Here we are” you said smiling, you lowered Jason from your hip and grabbed his hand “Alfred” the man looked at you “It's time to serve the main course to our guests” you pointed out, both shared a knowing look before he answered.

“Right away, Mrs. Wayne” Alfred answered calmly.

At the dining room table, the end of the table was left empty, because it was Bruce's place, while you, Dick, and Jason sat on one side, in that order, in front of you the invited couple left, with Mr. Hart sat down opposite you.

“Well” Mrs. Hart said as she put her napkin on her lap, Alfred poured juice for the children. “Where do you come from? How long have you and Mr. Wayne been married? And do you plan to have more children?” the woman asked as she began to taste the soup, hitting you with her questions so closely followed by hers.

“Oh” you laughed “Bruce and I have been together for so long it feels like we've always been this way” you erased “And we come from…” you were at a loss “We come from…” you didn't know.

“We come from another city” said Dick “From...” he was cut off bewildered, but he quickly looked at you for help, surely you knew “What was the name of the city, mom?” he asked you curious.

“The city, of course" you commented trying to start your sentence again "We come from..." again you had nothing, that made no sense.

“AND?” asked Mr. Hart frustrated, you looked at him and tried to smile to appear normal but you quickly lost it and he noticed.

“Let them think, dear, they are putting together their story” defended Mrs. Hart smiled sweetly as Alfred poured him more wine, at that moment you looked at him, but he didn't look at you, he was suddenly serious with a lost look as he poured his glass, he was tense.

“Our story, yes, of course” you continued again trying to get back to the thread of the plot “We come from, from a city, from...” you failed again.

“Where from?” asked Mr. Hart flustered.

“Arthur, leave the poor woman alone” Mrs. Hart scolded him, eating quickly, with a sweet tone but in her posture, there was something else, she was not calm or happy as she wanted to seem.

“Why?” her husband defended himself “It's a perfectly normal and simple question: Where do they come from?” the table fell silent, for a few seconds no one moved and didn't make a sound “Damn it. Where does it come from?” He slammed the table roughly, making the plates jump, Dick looked at him, he could hear the anger in his voice and even fear, but he didn't understand why “What do you want? What do you want-” his words were cut off, as was his breath, you watched him intently as he brought his hands to his throat, he was choking.

“Oh, Arthur, stop it” his wife commented naturally, her tone didn't leave the cheerful and casual naturalness it had had until now, but Arthur Hart kept choking and nobody made a move, not even you, only Jason kept eating his soup. Your eldest son looked at the guest confused. Dick felt that he should do something, but he shouldn't at the same time “Stop it” Mrs. Hart repeated “Stop it, stop it, stop it” Mrs. Hart stopped looking at her husband when he fell to the ground, very close to the feet of Alfred who looked at the situation without leaving his place with the wine jug in hand. You looked at him and he looked at you this time, he seemed worried, even anguished and fearful “Stop it” Mrs. Harte looked at you this time, she was talking to you “Stop it” she repeated.

“Mom” Dick called worriedly when he saw that the guest's pleas were directed at you now, he grabbed your hand on the table to try to get your attention but he kept looking between Mrs. Hart and the drowning man on the floor.

“Mrs. Wayne” this time it was Alfred who called you “Mrs. Wayne” was a silent request.

“Please, stop it” continued Mrs. Hart, a buzzing invades your ears, suddenly two unknown voices filled your ears, what they were talking about was inescapable, but they were close because their minds were close.

“Ms. Wayne” Alfred calls you with more urgency.

“Mama” called Dick, shaking your hand at the same time, but the voices had your full attention, you want to know who they were and what they were up to.

“Mommy” suddenly the voices were forgotten, Dick and Mrs.Hart fell silent, you looked at your youngest son, who was looking at you confused by the situation and you immediately reacted to it.

“Alfred, help him” you said seriously, the butler quickly putting down the wine pitcher and proceeding to help the man to the ground, quickly getting him to spit out the piece of meat that had been stuck in his airway. Mr. Hart gasped for air as he started to try to get up quickly, in a hurry, Alfred quickly helped him to his feet.

“Careful, Mr.” he said to him as they both finished standing in their places.

Mr. Hart finished standing up and ran his hands over his jacket, lost for a second and not knowing he was following, but quickly found the watch on his wrist and looked at it.

“Look at the time” he said matter-of-factly “We'd better not head home” he pointed and smiled, suddenly becoming more likable than he had been all through dinner.

“You're right, dear” Mrs. Hart agreed in her well-pitched sing-song tone “It was a pleasure meeting you all” the woman commented as you and your children stood up from their places, she approached you friendly and you took a few steps to meet her halfway “Your children are adorable, Mrs. Wayne and your house is a charm” she sentenced before giving you an impromptu hug, but you answered.

“Tell Mr. Wayne I can't wait to do business with him” said Mr. Hart smiling as you were separated from his wife, and walked over to shake his hand “And you two behave young men” he motioned to your sons as they both stood beside you, you ran your hand through your youngest son's hair to make sure he was there, and Dick leans against your side with his head leaning on your hip “Your mother of hers is a unique woman and there is nothing she wouldn't do for you, appreciate her” he told them honestly, which brought a smile to your face, you looked down to meet Dick's unsure eyes, you patted his back quickly to reassure him.

“Yes, Mr. Hart” Jason said as his older brother decided to speak.

“We'll take care of her, always” Dick accompanied.

“I'll walk you out” Alfred said smiling, happy that everything had turned out well.

You and your children went to the living room, ready to watch some television before going to sleep.

“Well, that was a venture without a doubt” you commented while sitting in the middle of the couch.

“It was to be expected when your family is like ours” Dick mocked, smiling at you in complicity, while he sat next to you, leaning his head on your shoulder.

“Next time, Alfred should serve ice cream for dinner” Jason pointed out “Everyone loves ice cream” he explained when you looked at him, to which you and your oldest son laughed along with the audience. Jason settled with his head in your lap, to which you put your hand in his hair to caress it, as he liked it so much and Dick wrapped his arms around your waist, you put your arm around his shoulders to hug him closer to you...

“After that disaster, I need a drink” Alfred commented entering the room and sitting in one of the individual armchairs “Although it could be compensated with a raise” he joked, they all laughed again together.

“What can I say” you looked at Jason, seeing how his eyes were slowly closing in sleep “We're a bit of a peculiar family” you stated.

“Just a bit?” Dick mocked again, you kissed his head as the lights dimmed and the credits began to roll, the show ending with the image of your beautiful family sitting in the living room.

Seeing that image, Bruce couldn't help but notice that it was the happiest thing he had seen you in over seven months...
