I absolutely LOVE Jack Black to bits. Dude has a special place in my heart.
But this is NOT Steve.

I'm sorry, but I just can't accept Steve getting whitewashed in an official piece of media of this franchise. Steve has been whitewashed enough number of times in the fandom, but this is just abhorrent.

look how they massacred my boy </3

What did they DO to him. he’s so square but also has fur texture?? he looks so weird??? this looks like a bad texture pack
I'm confused about your parenting example. Are you saying parents shouldn't actively try to stop their children from doing something they think is bad?
It's not about "should", it's about "can."
This site is filled with teenagers giving each other advice on how to hide things from controlling and/or abusive parents. It's one of the most obviously true things in the world: Strict parents raise sneaky kids.
You need to have a relationship of trust with your kids. If you don't, they'll continue to do things you don't like, but they'll make damned sure that you don't know about it.
This was the problem my parents always had: There is no alternative to genuine, mutual respect. There's no brute forcing it, there's no shortcut, no 'trickety trick' that's going to make your kid respect you without being respectable.
And where every shit parent fucks up is in thinking there is an alternative to genuine trust and respect. Whether it's an authoritarian parent trying to be a tyrannical overlord, or a gentle parent being a complete pushover, you aren't finding a shortcut to the emotional labour required to build a trusting relationship with someone.
But you go ahead and keep pretending that there is. I mean if your kids are making sure you don't find out what they're doing, I guess ignorance truly is bliss :3
it's not that I need a quiet day or a day off exactly; it's that I need a pocket of time that exists entirely outside of linear time as we know it that would allow me to get things done without time passing in the real world, and frankly, I don't think that's too much to ask.
