reading with alhaitham is a dangerous move, because you rarely get anything done with him there.

it comes as an innocent request from him, but it's not like alhaitham is a horrible reading companion. he's quiet and keeps to himself. what more could you ask for from a studying partner?

most of the time, the only sounds heard between the two of you on nights like these is the sound of pages being turned. he barely moves, comfortable with staying in the same position for hours on end. you, on the other hand, must move reading positions a lot more than you think because you tend to get alhaithams attention. it's you that becomes a distraction first.

he likes to stare at you, while you're desperately trying to focus on reading the page you're on. there's only so many times you can read the same sentence over and over until you realise none of the information is clicking.

his gaze pierces through you, almost as though he's scrutinising you. it's impossible not to feel hot or embarrassed under his stare, especially when you can see him out of the corner of your eye, peeking over the still-open book in his hand.

you sigh, giving up and finally meeting his eyes. "do you need something?"

"hmm?" he hums. "i can't look at you while i'm thinking?"

he's not thinking about the book that he stopped reading a few minutes ago. he's thinking about you.

alhaitham closes the book in his hand and places it on the table next to him. "since we've both lost focused now, do you want to do something else?"

more often than not, it ends up like this: you in his lap, thoughts filling up with nothing else but him.
