i think it just really reflects the stigma against drug use on this site, whether it be recreational or for survival. as leftist as its beliefs are about basically everything else and as much as we preach about standing against classism and ableism as soon as the subject of users and addicts comes up people feel that they’ve done enough activism today and choose that moment to take a step back and look the other way.

don’t say you stand in solidarity with all POC if you won’t show up for those who are addicts and active drug users.

don’t say you stand in solidarity with everyone in the LGBT community if you look down on those who struggle with addiction or use drugs recreationally.

don’t ever say that you stand in solidarity with people with disabilities if you indulge feelings of disgust or fear when you hear that they use.

users and addicts deserve the same positivity and understanding as other marginalized groups of people, and if you call yourself leftist yet maintain the same unequivocally right-wing viewpoints on drug users that were put in place by the church it’s time to take a step back and consider how you’ve been impacted by anti-drug propaganda.

and another thing, this stands for all drugs. not just “acceptable” (read: legal) ones like weed. alcoholics, nicotine addicts, and users of everything from heroin to shrooms to xanax to ketamine to acid all deserve the same amount of respect that you’d show to a non-user.

and while you’re at it, stop calling yourself a “crackhead”.

if this post made you uncomfortable, if it made you feel guilty, if it made you try to find excuses as to why it’s alright for YOU to look down on drug users, if it conjured to mind the awful things you’ve heard about addicts, if it made you want to keep scrolling and forget you ever read it, this post is for you.
