~reaping day~

(Authors note sorry about any bad writing I’m still improving!)

As the sun peaked through my window my brother started to shake me awake “Scarlet you gotta wake up” he said a bit annoyed “mhm” “scarlet it’s reaping day you need to get ready” “that’s today..?!” I almost shoot right out of bed “yeah it’s today” he fixed his shirt collar “Tommy can you help me tie my shoes…?” My little brother rubbed his eyes as he walk over “yeah bud hold on as Thomas went to tie my little brothers shoes and went to the bathroom where my reaping day dress hung a light steel blue dress with a white trim and a matching white ribbon tie…after a put my dress on I undid my braids I like how it makes my hair wazy..even though my hair is already wazy. I heard a gentle knock on the door and my mom peered in “sweet hard breakfast is ready when your done” she smiled gently and continued “don’t worry sweetheart okay..?” It took me a second to respond “okay” I nodded and she went to go serve breakfast as if I shied getting ready I remember all the nightmares I’ve had about reaping day when I 12 I had nightmares about the game I couldn’t shake it my family thinks they went away but sometimes I still get them.

I walked out of the bathroom and into the kitchen my fam lit sitting at the table my dad sipping on his juice my oldest brother eating some and toast he’s lucky he won have to worry about getting picked to go.. my youngest brother was eating his toast and I sat down next to him to eat every reaping day we’ve always had a big breakfast snide you never know if it will be your last home cooked breakfast. After we finished breakfast we quickly cleaned up so we could head to the town plaza near the justice hall

~The Reaping~

After we had separated are mayor started reading off the history of Panama the one we hear every year one of my friends could practically recite his whole speech. I look down at my shoes as he continues my nerves setting in a bit I wonder who’s going to be set off to the capital this year my thought are cut short as the mayor starts to introduce the lady who will be picking the name she had a nice shade of baby blue hair..or maybe it’s a wig but she had a beautiful blue dress that matched her hair and white gloves and skin almost as whit as her gloves.. and her name was Crysta Sloane… “Happy hunger games! Let the odds be ever in your favor” crysta smiled “now it’s is such an honor to be here!” She went on for a bit about how much of an honor it was to be here the last lady we had got moved up to another district I wonder is she wants moved up too my thoughts have been cut short gain as she speaks “well you know what they always say! Ladies first” she walked over to the glass bowl and put her hand in the bowl stirring it around a bit and picked out a paper and walks back to the podium and she took a deep breath “The female tributes for district 10 is…Scarlet Blackbird!” My jaw almost dropped open and the peacekeepers came to get me and people my age shuffled out of the way my little brother eyes filling with tears as he watched me walk up on stage my minter clinging my father and my oldest brother staring at the floor… “do we have any volunteers?” Crysta asked after I got up on stage I looked around silently, hoping someone would raise their hand but I knew in my heart no one would…”Okay let’s give Miss Scarlet a round of applause!!” The people of district 10 applauded as I attempted to smile out to the crowd knowing my face would be all over the screens and tv’s in the capital. “Now for the boys!” Crysta announced after the applause finished she had put her hand in the bowl again and stirred it around picked out another paper and walled to the podium “The male tribute for district 10 is….Callum ColeBrooke!” My heart almost shattered as I watched the, go to the 12 age group the boy was standing near my brother…the boy;s monger cried out “NOT HIM PLEASE…!” As his father hugged his mom as a peacekeeper told her be quiet down as Crysta cleared her voice “Now any volunteers…!” She said surprisingly cheerful and she waited a for a minute “Okay now give a round of applause for Mr.Callum!!” The crowd applauded again then the mayor reads the treaty as it is mandatory I hear silent sobs form Callum and when I looked over at him he wiped his eyes trying to look brave I assume..the mayor finish the treaty and motioned for me and the little bro to shake hands I wonder why they always had us do that and walked over to the boy and crouched down to his height and shook his hand as we shook hands the anthem played and I looked out the crowd the nerves set in again I seen things game before I’ve seen kids beat,slash and stab each other to death for survival I’ve seen some of those tribute who looked like they were built like gods..if I’m lucky I’ll get an easy and painless death it would be insane from for me to think I had a chance maybe district 12 with will get another win this year. The peacekeepers had us go into the justice hall me and Callum were separated into different rooms as I gently tapped my foot and my little brother ran in tears streaming down his face I gently hugged him letting cry “Scotty listen okay?” He sniffled and nodded “I’ll be okay alright..?” I knew I was lying and I couldn’t bare to see my famous like this my mom was hugging dad tears filled her eyes like an lake Tommy wiped his eyes looking at the floor my dad had a sadden expression on his face as he held my mom..”You’ll see me on the tv a-and I’ll always be with you remember..?” Scotty nodded sniffing “Remember my toys I don’t let you play with and how I hide them?” Scotty looked up still sniffing “w-what do the toys have to do with this?” “Their yours their in the third kitchen cabinet behind the storage box keep them in good condition okay?”.

“O-okay I will” Scotty nodding seeming to be a bit more happy the he was when he first came in my mother gently broke away form my farther hug before going to hug me as well and the peacekeeper peered in “you have 3 more minutes theirs more busters who would like to be in” my farther nodded and hugged me as well my oldest brother hugged me as well and whispered “don’t make yours;feel too known..make alliances and definitely don’t get cocky..” he stated and after he let go of the hug the peacekeeper took my family out of the room and 3 of friend form school walked in Johnny,Eloise and piper. Piper spoke first “I hope you win scarlet” she tried to smile but it was like she couldn’t and I smiled a bit back at her attempt “I’ll try for you all and my family okay?” The 3 all said something along the lines of okay ”hey if any of those rich kid form those higher districts mess with you gut em” Johnny stated crossing his arm and Eloise hit his arm gently “Johnathan!” “What?” Johnny rolled his eyes a bit “will I’m being honest they better not give a costume that makes you look like a laughing stock!” I laughed a tiny bit “I’m with you on that one” the same peacekeeper peered in “2 more minutes you lot” we all nodded “well good luck” piper stated and Eloise spoke up again “we’ll be watching okay?” I nodded and the peacekeeper made them leave as fast they came. A couple seconds of silence I could hear Callum mom still crying then I don’t think I would have any more visitors after a couple more family members popped in. After my grandma and grandpa left the peacekeeper came in and lead me out the room along with Callum with another peacekeeper they lead to a car and I’ve never ever seen one or those before I mean I’ve seen a horse and buggy but never a car after the got us in with Crysta we set off…————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
