ranboo tosses something in his direction. all tommy sees is a flash of purple before it flies past and lands on the path behind him. 

he stands still, glaring at the other boy.

ranboo stares at back, looking expectant. like it’s supposed to mean something.

with a troubled sigh, tommy turns. when he catches sight what it is, he barely holds back a growl.

a flower.

a fucking allium with dainty purple petals and a bright green stem.

tommy scoffs.

he’s not a casket. he’s not a shrine. he’s not a grave where you can lay your regrets and weep over dirt and stone.

he’s alive.

so he lights it like a funeral pyre.

“oh,” ranboo says.

staring at down the burning allium, light purple giving way to ash black, something flickers in the back of tommy’s mind as the flames flicker across the grass.

“that—” he starts to speak, visions of a purple flower, orange heat, and walls of blackstone pushing towards the forefront of his memory. but with those come more memories, of pain and desolation and betrayal, all crashing down against his fragile composure. tommy sucks in a breath and shakes his head. “thanks,” he says in a bland tone.

“okay,” ranboo says, “you’re welcome,” followed by a self-deprecating chuckle.

tommy gets the feeling he’s disappointed yet another person today.

So I just remembered something that happened in elementary school in 5th grade.

So in fifth grade we went on a field trip to the state museum and on the bus me and my friend who was behind me were quoting memes and somehow a chant started saying "Arby's Arby's Arby's we have the meats for sandwiches" and the entire bus was saying it and our teacher was MAD she yelled at us to stop. One aid on the bus recorded it and said he would send it to Arby's. He never did but that is the perfect description of public school.
