I know everyone and their dog are talking about the Minecraft Movie trailer and all possible opinions on it have already been stated but I have a new take

This all ties back with the Studios vs Indie war that's been brewing. Because you may not think of it that way, but the buckets and buckets of minecraft animation strewn across YouTube are indie animation projects. Of course the movie was going to have to compete and get compared to Story Mode, but it was also going to get compared to Captian Sparklez, Rainimator, Squared Media, Villager News, Animation vs Minecraft, and so much more. All of these count as indie animation, though usually they're left out of the discussion.

Despite having infinitely more resources, people, and funding, studios keep fumbling again and again and again. They keep losing to tiny teams of ametures making videos on YouTube and the Minecraft Movie makes it so much more obvious.

one reason abusive and neglectful parenting is common that people are scared to acknowledge is the sheer amount of couples who only had children because it was expected of them. as a result, they're going to first and foremost view their children as a status symbol, something to prove they're a good family.

Pregnant men exist. Not just as an uwu mpreg fanfic trope or a joke. Just because you think pregnancy is gross or icky doesn’t mean you can’t treat pregnant people with respect, regardless of gender or sex. Even in the queer community, trans men who choose to carry their children are seen as an anomaly or as betraying everything they’ve worked for. They aren’t. If I carry a child, I’m still just as much of a man.

Also, I understand if the idea of pregnancy is dysphoric for many trans men. I do. But trans men being pregnant isn’t an excuse to exclude them from queer spaces or treat them with anything less than the same respect you would anyone else. Many trans men experience dysphoria regarding the idea of pregnancy, but many don’t. Their body isn’t your business. Don’t be fucking weird.

Moo Deng shows avoidance, threat displays and stress around her keepers that are constantly man-handling her, blasting her with a hose and harassing her. The enclosure is mostly concrete, which is horrible for her soft feet. There looks to be some substrate but there doesn’t seem to be any areas for wallowing or deep water wading.

There’s also very easy access of this hippo to the public with no places to hide. I’d love if someone could shed more light on the enclosures but from what I’ve seen it’s not great.

Also the free contact and forcing into tubs that the keepers do is only going to create an avoidant and potentially aggressive and dangerous Pygmy hippo.

But the public happily overlook that because she’s cute. It’s a similar attitude with seals too.

Stop rewarding bad husbandry with clout. Baby animals deserve agency and respect and to grow up without getting harassed and feeling the need to defend themselves constantly.

If you take your trauma as a “life lesson” in order to cope, then that’s valid. But don’t push that on other people unless they are okay with it.

Don’t tell others “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”.

For me, what didn’t kill me gave me a personality disorder. It gave me PTSD. No part of me feels stronger and having that narrative pushed on me feels invalidating.

It’s okay if it didn’t make you stronger. It’s okay if it just fucked you up and there was no positive you took from it. That’s completely okay and you aren’t a failure.
