Definitely The Worst/funniest Eye Contact Experience I Ever Had Was About Nine Years Ago, On A Roof In
definitely the worst/funniest eye contact experience I ever had was about nine years ago, on a roof in a foreign country, too drunk to stand up and trapped in the company of a guy Iβd fought in the street earlier that day
I was convinced he was going to instigate a rematch that I was too compromised to win, but also I was very unwell and unafraid to die, so I gave him a piece of my mind and rattled off a detailed list of everything Iβd ever thought was wrong with him.
he didnβt replyβjust stared me down, wordless, expressionless, cold unblinking eyes in the darkness.
a thought surfaced from the depths of my brain, washing ashore like a globster: this is exactly like wolves. this is a dominance display. a challenge. hold his gaze; do not break eye contact. keep your eyes open and relaxed to show that you are not concerned with his threat⦠too wide will show fear and submission, too narrow will suggest violence.
I held his gaze.
he moved forward, stalking towards me across the roof.
just like wolves, I thought.
he approached slowly, like he was moving underwater, or through a dream.
this is literally exactly like wolves, I thought.
he came closer.
wolves, my brain insisted.
closer still.
youβre handling this properly for sure.
uncomfortably close.
only when the tip of his nose was physically pressed against mine like fucking Marty McFly and his school principal did my brain finally admit that maybe, just maybe, this was NOT like wolves, and that maybe half-remembered dubious information Iβd read in a kind of racist book about wolves once when I was nine years old was not applicable to my current situation.
then his lips pressed against mine and I realized that there are, in fact, other reasons adults make prolonged eye contact that really have nothing to do with wolf dominance displays.

Dear, free world: Apathy No More!
When piles and piles of people are apathetic when it comes to the genocide unfolding in Gaza, be the source of relief, hope, and support for the stranded helpless besieged people there. Astonishingly, our life in Gaza turned upside down in an instant?! We woke up one day to realize that a massive-scale war was to be launched against more than 2 million people in Gaza. My Facebook timeline was filled with countless posts in which Gazans publicly asked for forgiveness before their expected imminent mass murder. Can you imagine what it feels like reading all these scary posts and wondering if you should say a final 'Goodbye'?!
Then, Gazans ventured on their own version of Via Dolorosa (Way of Suffering) which included multiple forced displacements, acute life-threatening shortages of water and food, lost jobs, humiliation, mass destruction, injuries, and murder.

It is beyond shocking and sickening how desensitized our world has become to see all the horrifying images of children's body parts scattered everywhere and not lift a finger to stop this ruthless and inhumane genocide. I can say with all certitude on behalf of my people in Gaza that we have lost hope in all the vile desensitized regimes and politicians of the world.
However, we still have strong faith in the lovers and supporters of our just cause who never cease to shower us with their heartwarming words of support and uplifting wishes. Our belief in your humanity and support for our just cause drives us to ask you for help in this worst crisis in our history since the Nakba.

30,000 orphans

35,000 child amputees ( Gaza has the largest population of child amputees in the world)

Early design explorations I did for the Lee family home during my short time on Turning Red.Β It felt really nice to be on a project where I felt like could I could draw from my personal experience growing up in an Asian-immigrant family. I had a lot of fun throwing out ideas of specific things that could make the home feel lived in and authentically Chinese-Canadian :)Β
