SUMMARY. the way you met jeon jungkook was less than ideal, just like the way you ended up living with him for three years wasn’t perfect, just like both of your oblivious selves not realizing you had feelings for each other in between bickering like kids and rounds of jealous wasn’t sexy. until one day the a/c broke.

You stumbled into your shared flat, your fingers holding your heels while you threw them against the sofa. There was another crash as you attempted to make your way to your own bedroom in the dark, but it was useless. You were fucking drunk and could barely put one foot in front of another. Clearly, you had underestimated just how many shots you’d taken when Taehyung insisted on carrying you up the three flights of  stairs.

The audacity of that prick, you rolled your eyes. Your ten month relationship was thrown away, but he still thought you would be falling into his bed for a midnight fumble on drunken nights like this. At the very least you hoped your roommate wouldn’t be home, but the light trickling out from under his door frame debunked that theory as well.

You tried to take soft steps down the corridor, your bare feet treading lightly across the carpet.

But then you rammed into the wardrobe door that had been left open . A scream tore from your mouth. You’d jumped, but what an awful idea that was as you were unable to keep your feet flat on the floor. As you fell, you grabbed onto the door in the dark, jamming your feet against it instead and toppling over halfway inside the closet.

“Swear to god if I hear that infomercial again I’m going to implode” you growled, cursing the television playing on the tea room flat screen.

“Like seriously have you seen it, it’s so corny and there is no way someone that hot actually works for this company” You flicked your hand dismissively at the perfect specimen blurting out the script promoting the company.

“Again, who took the blood from your cornflakes this morning” her tone becoming sharp and more severe. You buckled under her stare and tried to inhale as much calmness as you could before massaging your throbbing temples

“Sorry, I’ve had this banging head since this heatwave started not to mention that I just never feel satiated at the moment” you confessed, your throat burning as it was flushed with sweet caffeine and blood.

“Satiated in what way?” Sam joked, a half chuckle reverberated from you

“Now that you mention it both! I feel like I’m literally can’t enough of either” Sam’s face twisted slightly into deep thought.

“What?”

“It kinda seems to be going around, a lot of you seem to be suffering” she paused

 “Maybe it is something to do with the heatwave?,  I mean your implants are working so much harder and with the boosters you have to keep having it may causing a slight imbalance?”

Ever the scientist you thought. You couldn’t help shake the feeling that maybe that was only part of it, being a vampire also left you vulnerable to more supernatural causes that Humans like Sam would miss out on. Lucky for them!

To most of the world Vampires are wiped out, but in reality we are hiding in plain sight right under their ignorant noses. Scientists in Daemur managed to develop an implant which constantly pumps a kind of UV protection through our blood stream. An internal sun cream. We can now walk among humans and live normal-ish lives. We still have to deal with the hunger and blood lust, science will never crack that. Human food isn’t even off limits for us now, over the years we have developed taste for mortal food; but only blood can give us the sustenance we need to survive. The older we get the more powerful we become. Older vampires have the power to compel and control humans in addition to memory wiping certain things; all we need is a few these vampires carefully placed in society and voilà! We have a whole world right under their noses. Younger vampires can only really memory wipe or compel a human when they have been partially drained.

“Someone also smells really good too, it’s a really faint smell I can’t pinpoint but it’s certainly not helping the situation”

“Well let’s go and start work and hopefully that can take your mind off things slightly”

“Yeah, let’s hope” you sighed, returning your fingers to your temples.

You used to be embarrassed doing this but now, after a year of knocking on your neighbour’s door, you don’t care too much. He’s a nice guy in his mid-thirties with a very well behaved little girl that usually clings to his leg anytime he opens the door. 

He had lived there for a few years before you and right after you moved in you spent two hours trying to open a particularly stubborn jar of pasta sauce. Eventually you had gotten fed up and knocked on his door in your sweatpants, hair tied up on the top of your head, and he had laughed as he easily popped the lid open and handed it back to you. From then on, whenever you needed something opened, you would knock on his door.

Like now. Your tiny jar of curry paste is being difficult and after a few minutes of struggling you stuff your feet into your fuzzy slippers and shuffle to the door next door.

You knock quickly a few times, thinking of how you hadn’t spoken to him in a few weeks. After a moment the door swings open and you smile, your standard “do me a favour?” on the tip of your tongue.

Except the guy that answers the door isn’t your neighbour. Not even close. No, he’s young and handsome and smiling brightly at you, despite looking a bit confused.
