Goose and the little boy he couldn’t raise
"You all right?"
Top Gun: Maverick (2022) dir. Joseph Kosinski
adorable 🥰
Hey! I loved your Maverick fics! I would love to request a 1986 Maverick fic if possible!!
Maybe where the reader and Maverick are married and the reader is heavily pregnant and could go into labor at anytime so while he and Goose are doing their training Carole and Bradley have been staying with the reader to help her out.
Maverick has to go to training one morning so the reader didn’t say anything to him about the little pains she had been having in her stomach all night and eventually as they day goes on they get worse until Carole notices her pain and then her water breaks so Carole rushes her to the hospital before calling Maverick.
Maverick and Goose were in the middle of a training when they got the news and immediately landed before rushing to the hospital. Maverick is with the reader the whole time and talks her through the labor making sure she knows how proud he is of her and it’s just really sweet. Then after the baby is born Maverick is so happy and it’s just a really cute ending with maybe The Bradshaws getting to meet their godchild.
Author's Note: Hi, Anon!! I'm sorry it's taking me so long to write the requests, but I have to work so often. I hope I created what you asked for, and I think it is so cute. When I get off, I'll start working on more fics.

“Carole will be here soon with Bradley, and she’s more than qualified to help you—” Pete mentions while picking up his jacket and keys. He’s been rushing around all morning to make sure he has everything before leaving you. You were nine months into the pregnancy, and every day the baby wasn’t here, Pete was extra careful around you. He would always have Carole over when he wasn’t able to stay at home, so you were taken care of.
“Pete.” You try to interject so you have an opportunity to calm him down, but he continues to rush around the house and check everything. He takes a quick second to look out the front window to see if Carole was pulling into the driveway.
“—and you’re feeling okay? No pain or sickness?” When he sees her car turn into the property, he goes to unlock the door and open it for her. He sees little Bradley running to the house despite his mother’s calls to stop, and he hugs Pete. The force of his hug pushes him back a little bit.
“Pete! I’m perfectly fine. The baby is playing very nice today.” You console, though, it’s not true. Last night, you could feel the baby being restless, and they wouldn’t settle down for anything. Then, you could’ve sworn your baby was gone with how much weight you felt being lifted off of you after a few hours. This morning you had the baby kicking you constantly, and when you got up, it felt as if you could fall to the ground. Deep down, you feel like today could be the day, but you’re holding on to the hope that Pete will get back before then.
“Okay, here’s Carole. You two have fun, and I love you! I’ll see you soon.” Pete kisses your forehead before leaving. You watch from the window as he runs to his bike, but before he speeds off, he gives you one last wave.
“That boy is crazy for you.” Carole comments over your shoulder, giving you a small fright. You turn your head slightly to her.
“He better be.” You both laugh, but it’s quickly stopped by a sharp pain in your abdomen. You let out a small grunt and lean forward to lean onto the wall by the window.
“Are you okay?” She rubs your back soothingly as you wince in pain. Bradley gets off of the couch to hold your hand.
“I’m fine. Just a little discomfort.” You let out a shaky breath and stand back up. Looking down at Bradley, you put your other hand on his cheek with a smile. Carole looks at you with an unconvinced glance, but you walk away before she could say anything.
“Do you want anything, Carole? Tea? Coffee?” You ask while taking down mugs from the cabinet. You even get the special small mug you keep for Bradley. While he wasn’t allowed to have coffee yet, you always made him a warm, sweet drink so he doesn’t feel left out.
“A coffee is fine, thank you.” She reaches for the milk in the refrigerator, and Bradley basically loses his mind because he knows what you’re making. He happily jumps onto a dining chair and dances in place. You laugh at the gesture, and it has you thinking about your future kid. What it would look like when they got excited. Suddenly, you realize how dirty the kitchen is. While you wait for the coffee to brew and the milk to warm, you grab a cleaner from under the sink to wipe off the coffee stains and sugar that are on the counter, and you spray down the sink.
“Sweetie, go lay down, I can get this for you. I know you have to be tired.” Carole stands up from her seat at the table, but you wave your arm at her.
“I’ve got this, Carole. I actually feel pretty good.” You wipe one last stain on the sink before the coffee pot beeps, letting you know that it was done. You fill the two cups up and start working on Bradley’s drink. Honey, milk, and cinnamon all mix together easily, and all three of you sit down at the table. After a few minutes of silent sipping, you lean over and wince again at the pain causing Carole to get up.
“It’s fine! Probably just those fake contractions. I just have to push through it.” Your grip on the table gets tighter until the pain eventually becomes dull. Deciding you’ve had enough, Carole gets up to make breakfast. You look up from your mug to see Brad looking back at you.
“How are you this morning, Honey?” You ask, and he gives you the most precious smile. That’s when you notice a piece of his hair sticking up away from the others.
“It’s been okay. I’m just excited for my new friend to be here.” He mentions while playing with the placemat on the table. Carole smiles from her spot at the stove.
“I’m sure they’re just as excited. Maybe that’s why they keep kicking around!” You smile which causes him to let out an adorable giggle you’ve heard so many times. You and Bradley swap funny stories for the next few minutes as Carole makes a smaller breakfast for you three, and the smell makes your stomach growl. You stand up so you can steal a piece of bacon from the plate she’s keeping them on, but before you get around the bar, your hand goes to grab the counter top as you double over in pain.
“That’s every five minutes apart. We have to get you to the hospital.” She goes to turn off the stovetop and grab the bag Pete had packed earlier this week from the table by the door. Bradley gets up from his seat, but you lay on the couch.
“Carole, I’m fine. We’ll just wait for Pete to come home, and then we can go to the hospital.” You reach for the remote, but she snatches it from your hand. You look at her with shock because this was completely out of character.
“You’re in labor. You need to get up and get in that car, Mitchell.” The use of your last name has your heart dropping, but you remain on the couch.
“I have to wait for Pete to get home–”
“Get in the car–”
“No! I’m not going, Carole! I’m not going to the hospital without Pete, so I’m not having the baby until he gets here.” You shout, frustrated with her actions and the baby. As you take in the shocked look on Carole’s face, a woman who has just wanted to help you, tears fall down your face. You’re scared. Pete isn’t here, and you’re scared. Carole sits beside you.
“You have to go, Honey. This isn’t something you can put on the backburner until it goes away or gets easier to deal with. Sometimes, labor can take hours, so he will be there. Either way, you have to go to the hospital for your safety and the baby’s.” Your head is on her shoulder, and her arm is wrapped around your shoulder. You nod softly, so she helps you to the car. As if it’s a sign, water begins to trail down your legs.
“Oh my God, Carole, I’m dying.” You complain, embarrassed, but she laughs at your dramatic statement.
You have been at the hospital for almost five hours, and Carole is sitting beside you with a cup of ice chips looking at her watch. Pete and Nick should still be training, so you really don’t expect them any time soon. You let out another grunt of pain.
“Carole? You’d do anything for me, right?” You look over at her, and she smiles with a nod. You look at the door and out the window before leaning over slightly to her, grabbing a glove from the drawer beside her chair.
“I need you to put this one, and then I need you to grab this child out of me.” You drop the glove on her lap, but she just throws it in the trash dismissively.
“I’m not doing that.” As she says that, Pete, Goose, and a nurse walk in the room. You feel like you could cry from happiness, so you do. Pete rushes over to you with his hands out to hold you the best way he can. Goose gives him a smile before grabbing Carole and Bradley.
“Good luck, Sweetie! Oh! Here are the ice chips, and I have these little wipes in my purse if you need to wipe your hands, Pete.” She says as she reaches into her bag, but Nick pulls her out before she gets too caught up. The nurse checks to make sure you’re doing just fine, but when she comes back up from the sheet, she has a smile on her face.
“I need to go get a doctor, Mrs. Mitchell.” You let your head fall back onto the pillow as the pain progressively gets worse and worse. Pete places a kiss on your forehead.
“Remember the breathing the doctor told you about–” He starts to comfort you, but a sharp pain stabs you in the chest.
“Fuck your breathing, Pete.” You almost want to writhe around in pain, but you try to keep calm before you freak yourself out too much. You give Maverick an apology, but he knows that you’re just in the worst pain you could possibly be in.
“You want to hold my hand?” He offers, hand sticking out in front of you. You take his hand as the doctor and nurse walk in.
“I just want him to get out of me.” You let the comment slip, not thinking much of it, but Pete’s eyes widen and he looks at you closely.
“Him? We’re having a boy?” His hand glides over your stomach. You watch as the doctors begin to get serious, your breathing picks up, and the pain sits in.
“Pete, I can’t do this. I’m not good with pain, and I’m not responsible! I spend way too much money on myself.” Pete just pushes your hair back into a ponytail and ties it with the hair bow around your wrist. He places one more kiss on your forehead before looking at you in the eyes.
“The doctor’s and I are here to help you with the pain, and you know Carole will help you with anything you ask.” Besides ripping a baby out. The doctor’s notify you that it was time, and the whole process made you want to turn into a pool of water and evaporate into the sky because this was the worst experience you could imagine, but you have to focus on the end goal: holding and raising your baby. As you scream and squeeze the ever living hell out of Pete’s hand for what feels like hours, you hear the piercing cry of your child. Quickly, Pete removes the small upper layer of the gown so you could have skin-to-skin contact with the baby.
“He’s so pretty, Pete. He’s definitely your kid.” Pete gives a small chuckle before the nurses take the baby to clean and fix up. Pete cleans up your face with a wipe Carole had left and moves the hairs out of your way. For a moment, he just admires you and how you are glowing.
“I love you.” He admits, and you can feel tears welling up in your eyes again. You whisper it back before the nurse brings your swaddled baby back to you.
“Do we have a name?” She asks, and you look over to Pete. You two have talked about names before, but once you found out he was a boy, you knew you wanted Pete to pick the name.
“Duke Nick Mitchell.” He says as the woman writes it down, leaving the room shortly after. Pete cutely introduces himself before saying that he’s going to get Carole and Nick. While he’s gone, you gently caress his face with your finger and introduce yourself as well. You tell him all about how you will protect him and how if anyone tries to hurt him, you’ll go to jail because you can already feel a separation anxiety bond forming. Just then, the whole family walks right in.
“Oh my gosh, Nick, look at him! He’s so small, and I can already tell he’s going to be a good boy.” She coos while slowly walking back over to your bedside. Nick gets behind her and watches as the baby squirms in place, hands curling.
“He’s going to be just like his dad.” He comments, and Pete rolls his eyes at that.
“Carole, you would do anything for me, right?” You tease, and she looks at you cautiously.
“If there’s another one up there, then I’m not grabbing it.” She laughs, but you can tell she is still nervous by the way she shifts from foot to foot. Pete comes up by Nick and slaps a hand on his back.
“Because of our job and just how life works, we want you two to be the godparents. You know, in case something happens to me while–” When Pete starts to tear up, Nick pulls him in for a hug, you tearing up as well.
“We’d be honored.”

Rooster sat at the bar, as he did for the past two weeks of his life. He had lost his best friend, his girlfriend. He sighed in defeat for the fifth time today before Phoenix groaned and spoke. “Listen man, cmon tell me what you told her. It can’t be that bad.”
He shook his head, “I can’t tell you what I told her. I was drunk, it was bad. It made her leave me man.” He bit his lip to stop him from quivering. “Shit, goddamn it I messed up my whole entire life.” He ran his hand across his face, as his eyes started to water.
“Is he still in his shit-hole era?” Hang-man asked, sipping on some beer he ordered not too long ago. “Leave him alone, you know how much he loved (y/n).” Phoenix pushed her friend back. “Then why did the two break up?” He questioned.
Rooster cussed, pushing his chair out. He didn’t want to deal with Hang-man for the fifth time today. As he angrily walked out of the bar, his eyes saw something he hated. You were out of your car, about to head inside Penny’s bar to work your night shift. Though you were stopped by a group of men, four to be exact.
There so called ‘leader’ of the gang pushed you back into your vehicle. “Hey sweet cheeks, how bout you apologize to this fine young man right here after what you did to him last night.” Rooster of course, remembered what you did to their friend last night. He had insulted you and a coworker, which lead you to ringing the bell and getting hang-man and fanboy to kick him out of the bar.
“I said apologize!” He yelled, slapping your face making you wail. Everything around Rooster froze. And his eyes were directly on the man that hit you.
He ran over, didn’t even care that it was a 4 v 1 type of shit and started bashing on the man who hit you. You heard his grunts, as he was facing other punches from everywhere.
You cry out, begging them to stop but they weren’t listening to you at all. Running up to Penny’s bar, you open the door and call for Hang-man and fanboy to help Rooster out. The two came running out, looking at the mess. Rooster had been pinned to the ground as the leader of the gang messed him up.
“Hey douche bags!” Fanboy yelled, grabbing one’s hair and started to punch him in the face. Hang-man started to pound the leader, while the other two backed up away slowly. Of course, Phoenix and Bob were already there before they got away, and held onto them.
The cops finally came before Fanboy and Hang-man stopped giving the two guys the same treatment they gave you and Rooster. “Holy fuck,” Phoenix laughed.
As soon as everything finally got to peace, the group and Penny were the only ones at the bar. Penny had told everyone to go home, and that it was closed.
You were shaking badly even though it had happened twenty minutes ago. Rooster and you were both wrapped in a blanket Penny gave you. He was caressing your back, as you stay stunned. “M so sorry my love.” He whispered.
The way how your heart ached, but the way how your heart burned from the memory of the last night you spent with him. “I really didn’t mean what I meant that night.” He whispered.
The two of you were in a corner of the bar, taking in of what had just happened. “Are you sure?” You asked him, your eyes watering once more remembering what he said.
“I’m very much sure. It was just in the heat of the moment, I never meant to say those words to you. I love you with all my heart and I know you’re the one for me, I know you’re the one I want to marry.” He whispers. Your heart melts, and you think for a moment.
“Okay.” You whisper, giving in and cuddling and into his side. He hissed a bit, and you mumble a quick sorry. “No s okay honey.” “I’m sorry you got hurt because of me.” Caressing his cheek, your eyes looked apologizing.
He sighs, “I’ll always put my life for you on the line.” Kissing his neck, you responded. “And I’ll always be grateful for it.” He got up, grabbing your hand and telling the others that the two of you will be calling it quits for the night and going home.
Phoenix smiled, seeing her best friend himself again.
The two of you drove home in comfortable silence, trying to forget what happened in the past and just wanting to stay in each other’s embrace for the night.
