Artemis And Callisto For Sapphiczines First Volume Celestial Beings.

Artemis and Callisto for Sapphiczines’ first Volume “Celestial Beings”.

I have a love/hate relationship with Greek mythology. Back when I was a teenager, I used to be very fond of it, but re-reading the tales as an adult has left a bitter taste in my mouth. I suppose as a young teen a lot of things went over my head, but even back then, I’ve always felt that the tale of Callisto was one of the cruelest of the lot. I’ve always assumed Artemis and Callisto were lovers but that the Greek standards of the time, while being generally progressive compared to, say, the Middle Ages, did not quite allow for open love stories between women - hence the tragic end Callisto met. I like to think of a new version for this story, one where there is a ‘happy-ever-after’ for Callisto, whose only crime was to be in love with the independent and free-spirited Artemis.

If someone ever deserved her own happy ending, it was Callisto.

Terra Branford From FF6

Terra Branford from FF6

I was going for that etheral, distant feel you get from her character on Yoshitaka Amano’s concept artworks. I suppose I have only myself to blame for being dissatisfied with the result : I had completely forgotten how Terra’s color theme made her look like a Christmas tree. Green and red, with pink undertones and gold shiny jewelry, seriously? *sighs* Merry Christmas in advance, I suppose?

I Love Diana Wynne Jones Chrestomanci Chronicles And I Have A Sweet Spot For Conrads Fate, With Its Twisted

I love Diana Wynne Jones’ Chrestomanci Chronicles and I have a sweet spot for Conrad’s Fate, with its twisted uncles and grand palace life. So I decided to make up my own cover art for the book as a practice of sorts.

I think I’ll be making a few more DWJ Cover Art pieces :3
