Lawrence Simmons Left The Super Villain Scene Years Ago. He Married The Retired Super Hero, Yvonne Simmons,

Lawrence Simmons left the super villain scene years ago. He married the retired super hero, Yvonne Simmons, and took her last name. As retired supers, the couple always makes sure to keep track of the new heroes and villains in town, however, Lawrence never expected to be caught in the crossfire of one of their heists with his six-year-old daughter. No, he and Yvonne hoped to keep their daughter away from the world of heroes and villains as long as possible.
Just as he finishes making a deposit with the bank clerk and Quinn takes a sucker from the dish on the counter, the glass doors shatter and the new costumed crew of delinquents storms inside. In a moment, one of the villains has Quinn in their grasp. The sound of his daughter’s scream sends power coursing through him in a way he hasn’t felt in nearly a decade. Slightly disoriented, he takes a deep breath, knowing his irises are now a disturbing combination of red, orange, and yellow.
The bank clerk gasps and shrinks away from him. The lights flicker out, the backup generator doesn’t kick in. That’s right, he thinks, one of them can manipulate electricity. Hardly a second passes after it goes dark before he stands up and faces the intruders. Infrared images in the shapes of humans, fill his vision. The silhouette with red eyes advances on the new villains. He’d been called many things in his time, all of them evil.
The cold air from outside passed right through him as he continues creeping toward the villains who have already reached the vault, his daughter inside with them. As he enters the view of the two guarding the entrance, he smiles viciously. The eyes of the woman on the right go wide, startling at the sight of him. With inhuman speed, he launches toward her, pressing a feather-light finger against her lips. A harsh wind rushes through him, distorting his form. Forcing himself to restore some of his solidarity, he pulls the woman into a choke hold just as her partner approaches him.
Lawrence pushes the woman forward into her partner, rushing forward and passing through the woman to fight the man. A new presence enters the room, one of the hot shot new super heroes, attacking the woman as she advances on Lawrence. A sheet of ice spreads across the floor, the temperature dropping every second. Lawrence feigns another strike before returning to his shadow form, his fist passing straight through the skull of his opponent. The momentary distraction is all he needs to advance into the vault, only spotted by the little girl held hostage in the back of the room.
He stays in the shadows as he stalks past the three villains shoving money into their duffel bags. Two more young heroes crash into the vault, engaging the villains. Again taking advantage of the villains brief surprise, he bolts to the back of the vault. He drops a hand onto Quinn’s shoulder and puts all his energy into pulling her into the shadows with him. The hastily tied ropes fall away from her body as she dematerializes, fading into a silhouette like her father.
Holding her against him, he darts across the floor, passing through the bodies of heroes and villains on his way out of the vault. On reaching the shattered doors, he leaves the building and sets his daughter down on the sidewalk and points her in the direction of Yvonne who stands just beyond the police barricade. He walks forward beside his daughter, feeling himself flicker, all energy leaving him. Yvonne pulls Quinn into her arms just as the silhouette of her husband disperses.

Imagine someone shoots you, very likely tried to kill you and after that trauma you expect sympathy and maybe an outpouring of support but instead your trauma becomes a meme and everyone is laughing at your pain.
And this is truly the burden of black women. The world tears us down to nothing so we build up these hard exteriors to protect ourselves (which usually manifests as what appears to be unwavering confidence) and are praised for our "strength" but really for how much abuse we can take. And the result of that is people feeling free to treat us any kind of way without remorse because we're expected to handle everything better than other women. We're rarely seen as victims, sympathetic characters, vulnerable, and deserving of affection.

A stray dog in Bolivia joined a monastery and became a monk. The resident monks of St. Francis Monastery, named for the patron saint of animals, decided to adopt a dog they call ‘Friar Bigotón’ from the Cold Nose Project, which hopes the dog’s story will now inspire more monasteries to take in homeless pets.
