the funniest interpretation of rusty lake is one where the vanderboom family tree just keeps getting more & more complicated. dale's grandfather looks like aldous because his grandfather IS aldous, which makes dale's mother & james vanderboom siblings. frank & laura are ALSO siblings by virtue of both of them being half-lake. ida is a distant cousin of caroline eilander but caroline cut contact with ida's side of the family after she married nicholas. family forest

Since we never get a side by side height comparison between Jakob and David (I think) I like to think it’s one of those situations where the annoying young sibling outgrows the older in height and just doesn’t let him forget it.
