I've been sitting on this hot take since 2019 so I won't pretend it's relevant to anything at all but:

The Umbrella Academy are not siblings because they were adopted by Reginald and raised together. They're not siblings because Reg had them call each other brother and sister. They're not siblings because they grew up under the same roof with the same deranged patriarch that they called dad.

They're siblings because they choose to be. Because they would sneak out together in the middle of the night. Because they worried about each other, and checked on each other, and hated each other, and loved each other. They're siblings because they chose to be human, chose to be people, in the face of something horrific. They chose each other. They chose all their mess and all their bullshit and they did it on purpose. That's worth something.

It was never about saving the world for him.

I don't care what he told them or what he told himself.

When he saw their corpses lying there, that's what ended his world.

That boy would never have told his family to submit to the beast he had been protecting them from longer than they'd been living.
