Clarence Thomas is seriously talking about overturning the cases that got us contraceptive rights, same-sex relationships, and same-sex marriage and at the same time, various states and conservatives are going out of their way to attack trans rights in every way imagineable. I'm not exaggerating when I say that after this they'd probably seriously consider undoing things like interracial marriage or ~leaving it to the states~. This country is a mess.

This country claims to be democratic but 9 unelected people who's values and opinions formed decades prior, who can get into this position without strong or even any valid credentials, can decide to negatively impact or even destroy millions of lives and they cannot be held accountable for it. They can't be impeached or voted out. It's only the most convoluted combination of election-year voting, voter suppression/lack thereof, and idk fucking cowardice from both sides that got any of them to where they are now. 9 people who are cemented in their beliefs and then use the law and constitution to justify their moral opinions that they insist don't influence their rulings at all. We can't vote then out. We just have to hope they retire or die under the presidency of someone who doesn't want to actively kill everything, and eve then we have to contend with any given republican or spineless Democrat in the Senate.

And even then, we cannot get rid of them. Nine people make decisions for 300+ million, affecting their ability to defend themselves, to live peacefully, to lead healthy and happy and safe lives. Nine people can ruin lives for decades to come.

Nine people. Nine. People.

The conservatives on the Supreme Court just killed Roe v Wade, ending the federal right to abortion in America. And they are coming for contraception and same-sex rights next.

this is the reality. as someone who lives on the east coast sandy hook was absolutely unimaginable. people vowed it would be the last time something like this should happen yet it’s only gotten worse. i need people to understand that the school shooting jokes that have been made for years were never funny. these are children. the argument that this is “caused” by mental illness is problematic and sets the notion that it’s the only problem when millions of people have diagnoses and don’t commit these acts. what causes them is inherent evil and lack of gun control. no one should be able to purchase a legal weapon at 18 but has to be 21 to drink

you cannot be pro-life when it comes to a fetus and not when it comes to saving innocent living and breathing children in schools. we’ve become so desensitized to these events because they’ve become the norm. no one is ever going to convince far right conservatives to enact on the strictest gun control measures but they have to meet in the middle.

i can’t even imagine being in the position of the parents who lost their children who were far too young. to the teachers who died protecting their students, their names will be remembered as hero’s. and the angels who should have never been in that position, changes needs to made for them.

I don’t understand why this has to happen over and over again.

I don’t understand how people can not push for gun reform when it’s become increasingly clear the way things are isn’t working.

And I don’t understand how political leaders only send ‘thoughts and prayers’ every time this happens. As if this alone will change this horrible cycle. A textbook definition of insanity.

We need gun reform and we’ll need more than ‘thoughts and prayers’ because faith without works is dead.
