“It’s just a party Rufus, lighten up and have a drink” she giggled, plucking a drink out of nowhere and shoving it into his hand. “Toast in the new year with me, and say goodbye and good riddance to the last one".

Some of the liquid sloshed over the glass’ rim in Bathsheda’s excitement, and Rufus only grimaced for a moment, brushing some droplets off his pajama. He sighed. “It is a good fucking riddance, you’re right.” He lifted the glass, waiting for her to clink hers against his. “You seem excited, what are you going to leave behind?”

“Depends on the surprise,” Rufus hesitantly answered, after looking her over. “Why, do you know something?”

“actually, I don’t think that at all. I’m already well-reviewed. I do think you have to prove yourself though.” rita said with a sly smile.

That had Nick quirking a brow, finally turning his entire body to face the woman. “In what regard?” He was the chief warlock, there was little Nickelos still had to prove to anyone who knew even a little bit about him.

“I was not invited to go with them, nor would I have wanted to if I had been. Tommy needs time with his parents to bond or whatever, I need time away from my job to blow off steam.” Her hand traveled back up and rested on his shoulder again, her own body just barely moving in time with the thrumming beats around them as she took a sip of her drink. She was pretty sure she’d never convince Severus Snape to actually dance, but she could dance around him and it would have nearly the same effect. “I’m not making fun of you, I think you look cute. And certainly cozy.” 

The feeling of inadequacy was back in full swing when she began to lightly sway right in front of him, still holding on to him with one hand. He did not dance. Severus Snape did not dance. And yet... Perhaps he’d already had enough shots of alcohol to be brave enough and listen to the urge that told him to reach out. Hesitantly, almost stutteringly, he lifted his hand and placed a light touch against her swaying hips. “You are making fun of me,” he monotonously threw back at her. “No one who’s not making fun of me would call me cute.”

“Fancy ass motherfuckers.” Laser said, a little unnerved. They were definitely with Bo on this one. “I mean, people with boobs do. But at what cost?”

“Coward,” Nickelos responded dryly. “You won’t even have conversations with me in your work clothes.”
