I Just Had The Realization That The Shinigami, And The Captains Specifically, Would Have No Idea Of The

i just had the realization that the shinigami, and the captains specifically, would have no idea of the more delicate human things. like memes. or anything a teenage boy circa early 2000’s would know.

i can so easily imagine ichigo dropping some reference near one of them and being asked “what’s that?” and him coming to the same realization and the pure joy any 15 y/o would get at memeing an old person that follows.

theres so much good shit that spawned from 2000-2009. tell me ichigo wouldn’t “ah shit, here we go again” at LEAST once. “one does not simply [insert the most asinine shit here]”. scatman. the ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny. success kid. 4 approximately 15 y/o teenagers together in a stressful situation would absolutely meme their way out. 2000’s movie reference anything that moves.

and the captains would be so confused. they don’t know this shit, they don’t need to know this shit. they would ask questions and be left with more questions bc i dont know if you’ve ever asked a teenager what something means and got meme’d for it, but that’s what happens.

tell me “it’s time to d-d-d-d-duel!” isn’t heard right before ichigo beats the fuck out of byakuya. ishida when he’s facing mayuri. orihime when ishida faces the wind guy before mayuri. chad vs kyoraku. any major battle ever. rukia and renji start saying it at some point. byakuya asks about it at some point and is told its a formal way to announce a fight. he starts saying it. (really, he says “it is time to duel”, but the spirit and meaning is there).

truly, along with the invasion to get rukia they invade the seireitei with memes. anything and everything that can be spoken, is. when the Gang goes to the human world when the arrancars are discovered, they are subsequently taught how to be meme lords and take it back with them. yachiru starts memeing, meaning kenpachi starts memeing (his favorite is “it’s over 9000!”) rangiku teaches shuuhei. ikkaku teaches iba. it spreads. the entire seireitei is memeing.

the rest of the captains start memeing last. mayuri figures out how to rickroll. kyoraku and “thanks, obama.” (he does not know who obama is). those are just the ones that immediately come to mind, but please brainstorm some more because i can’t stop thinking about this.
