To Intolerant Parents...
I’m so fucking tired of parents shaming their kids for their interests. I love Kpop so much. The music and fandom makes me so happy and is my place of refuge and yet...
I will never forget when I was watching NCT Life with NCT Dream in the living room and my mom humiliated me and insulted it until I left the room, wanting to cry. I will never forget my parents’ intolerance, begging me, “please don’t do this to me” when I want to put a song on because it’s in Korean. And then when I try to defend it, I get insulted because they get defensive and try to say it’s just their opinions and that it doesn’t matter because of that.
Do you know what happened because of this? I don’t talk to my parents about Kpop, something that brings me so much joy. I don’t tell them who my favorite celebrities are and show them songs that mean something to me. I don’t tell them about the albums or lightsticks or merch I buy. I didn’t even tell them I went to the NCT 127 concert in San Jose until they called and asked how I was doing because I knew they wouldn’t care.
Insulting and humiliating your child for the things they like just causes them to hide those thing and not include you in their lives. They don’t talk to you or spend time with you because you have made it clear you don’t care. Then you wonder why your child grows distant and get upset with them when they try to explain.
DON’T FUCKING DO THIS TO YOUR KIDS.

You were 12 when Lee Haechan accidentally hit you across the head with a basketball during PE. It’s a blurry memory but you recall waking up in the nurse’s office with your head trobbing, a piece of dressing shoved up your nostril as to stop the continuous flow of blood, and a raven haired boy with an apologetic expression sitting awkwardly by the bed. There was no reason for him to stay with you for the rest of the day and take you to your classes apart from the overwhelming guilt eating him alive from inside out. You liked his presence though.
Haechan’s bag was too big and his glasses too small but he still managed to be on top of the school’s foodchain, known for his charisma and impressive ability to make people fall in love with his many talents; there wasn’t a single soul who didn’t know his name.
So, before he could apologise for the 4th time, when you asked him what his name was the boy stopped right in his tracks, having forgotten what it was like to introduce himself since there wasn’t really a necessity for that anymore. After a small pause he answered, seeing this as the start of a sincere friendship as opposed to a hard pill to swallow.
“Haechan.” You knew. “What’s yours?”
“Y/n.”
He knew.
