Have you ever heard of a Bacon number? Even if you have, I'm still going to explain it. The Bacon number is the degrees of separation between any actor or actress and Kevin Bacon. If you've been in a movie with Kevin Bacon, your Bacon number is 1. If you've been in a movie with someone who has, in turn, been in a movie with Kevin Bacon, your Bacon number is 2, and so on.

I've decided to create the Dream SMP number. If you have ever personally met or spoken to (verbally or via text) a content creator on the Dream SMP, your DSMP number is 1. If you've met/spoken to someone who has met/spoken to a CC, your DSMP number is 2, and so on. What's yours?

Don’t post the same phrase millions of times in an effort to have the highest word count, or whatever the hell your motivation is. Why not?

1. You’re shitting all over every writer (yes, every writer, not just the people with super long fics) who has been brave enough to put themselves out there, worked hard to write their fic, sometimes in truly challenging circumstances, tapped out their fic on their phone or laptop etc, edited and edited and edited again, stayed up all night to build characters and worlds for us all FOR FREE.

2. It’s explicitly against the AO3 ToS. A phrase or phrases repeated multiple times is not regarded as fanwork. It will be reported to the AO3 Abuse Reports team. Who are volunteers. Who could be spending their time helping people with technical issues, or abuse issues etc, instead of checking your post, removing it, emailing the person who reported it, and logging all of this

3. AO3 servers cost money. More (unnecessary) data = more money. Maybe slows performance?

4. Your post is the equivalent of an 18 month old toddler using shit to fingerpaint on a wall. Except they don’t really know that what they’re doing is a bad idea

i'm not sure how many dsmp fans realize just how much fan music is out there. like we all know derivakat and cg5's stuff, and yeah it's fantastic but there is so much more

precious jewel amor has so many dsmp songs with the most heart-wrenching lyrics i've ever heard and beautiful music to accompany them. and they have music for characters that don't always get a bunch of recognition! cbad enjoyers, try listening to savior. cPuffy has Empty and Do It Again. cNiki? You bet! try Hidden in the Depths, Nothing to Lose, or the cNiki AND cJack song, Hate (Heal). ALSO PJA uses repeating motifs across songs to show relationships between characters which just. Amazing!!!

Amanda Fagan has the same range of characters, and her sound varies from sweet and simple ukulele to highly-produced. cCrimeboys enjoyers, listen to their relationship progress through Please Don't Make Me Choose, Play With Dynamite, and Sunken and Shattered. cJack fans, enjoy Bittersweet and Invisible. And I can't forget the SBI song, When Nothing Mattered More Than Friends, ft. other artists such as seiggel, butterscotch bread, and...

Mizz Fish! My god, their voice is so incredible, and they have some of the most creative songs I've seen! Try a song detailing cRanboo's inner monologue inside of his panic room. Or the most beautiful ballad mourning L'manburg.

this post is getting long but. seriously, if you enjoy fan-made music and/or are searching for more dsmp content to consume, check out kroh, megan shumway, Kanaya, ellienort, seiggel, butterscotchbread, Frankie!!, Hator, spirental, trashyinferno. there's so much out there, and you can hear the passion put into these songs. they deserve to be heard!

(Also, most of these artists have original music out too, which you should also absolutely listen to!)

I could never understand people who treat DSMP like a dead fandom or feel ashamed of still adoring this piece of media in 2024. After all, isn’t the whole point of enjoying any story to keep it in your heart for years instead of forgetting about it the moment it loses its popularity? How did classical literature or old movies/series survive and remain appreciated until today, for example? The DSMP fandom is alive because there still are people who deeply care about the characters, and it will keep on living until there’s at least one person passionate about it.

It is true that the DSMP fandom was bigger in 2020-2022, but it’s also important to remember the quality of the fanbase at the time. I remember seeing so much more harassment, especially directed towards people interested in portraying c!Prime’s canonically abusive dynamic without even exploring the aspect of /p physical affection; many people were forced to deactivate their accounts because of the insane amount of toxic reactions. There were also A Lot of people incapable of understanding that CC’s characters weren’t supposed to represent their real life personalities, which either led to certain CC’s harassment for being “horrible people” or to misinterpretation of certain characters (e.g. c!Dream, c!George, c!Sapnap, c!Quackity, or c!Sam), a huge amount of poor lore comprehension, leading to Lots of victim-blaming and abuse apologism.

Now that DSMP is over and less popular, a significant amount of people responsible for the fandom’s poor reputation is gone, and people who genuinely understand the characters and simply want to discuss and/or create content for their hyperfixation in peace, stayed. Of course, this fandom isn’t perfect or entirely free of Weird™ people, but there’s certainly less toxicity, and it’s all that matters.

The next time you feel ashamed of still enjoying DSMP, try to remind yourself of the wonderful memories, excitement, creativity boost, and friends it brought you, and focus on the fact that this story will remain alive for as long as you let it.

Do y’all know how companies will see a lot of money going into a New Tech Thing (like, say, AI art apps) and will jump to try and implement that New Tech Thing into their tech? For example, how it felt like every big company and celebrity had an NFT to sell?
