This might be a little mean spirited of me but i like the idea of Sirius flaunting his relationship with Remus in Molly & Tonks's face. Remus's rant about loving Sirius in one of your recent fics was satisfying AF. Don't think Remus was totally 'coerced' in canon (outside of the author forcibly pairing a gay man with a woman), he can make his own decisions yadda yadda, but also think Molly and Tonks being so dogged and guilt-trippy about Remus not wanting to get with Tonks was weird and lowkey toxic! And kinda homophobic tbh like I kinda think they thought they could "fix" him. Anyway, Sirius does fix him aka he knocks Remus up (bonus if Tonks is put in the next room and Sirius "forgets" the silencing charms) and makes a point to show him off/put his hand on his belly/draw attention to his pregnancy during meetings. And Remus just melts when Sirius is being loving so it's really obvious he only has eyes for Sirius. Don't think they'd always be into PDA but with people they trust and/or people Sirius needs to make a point to? Sickeningly sweet PDA.

I am sorry this has languished in my ask box. Last week devolved into madness and illness and yesterday I kept reminding myself a cold wouldn’t kill me. Today I had the absolute gall to think I felt better, but taking a shower and being active for 20 minutes has killed that dream. 😭 I am fortunate in that my kid’s biggest ask of me this weekend has been making microwave popcorn. She’s a doll. Taking bets on work tomorrow! (Cold hard logic says no, ridiculous work ethic says yes, especially since I got a directive to finish up paperwork by next Monday so I have damn well decided they can have me there teaching or have me doing paperwork in peace at home as I’m not working over the weekend, so at least one day is going to be “off” anyway.)

But I digress!!

I do NOT think this is mean spirited and in fact find it delicious. When I first read the books I didn’t love Molly but I didn’t hate her. As I get older, I like her less. I think she has a bit of a mean streak. Not always, and I do think she genuinely loves Harry. But she was cruel to Hermione in GOF at Easter, and re-reading OOTP for the fic you mentioned was eye-opening in how much she genuinely low-blows Sirius (especially with Azkaban). I think we were supposed to sympathize with her and I really do not, nor do I think Sirius for one minute ever saw Harry and James as the same person or that he’d “gotten his best friend back” or whatever nonsense she says. We, interestingly, only have her word to go on with that. Not one Order member backs her up, including Arthur and Bill.

I also agree from a purely canonical perspective Remus wasn’t coerced into marrying Tonks. He is an adult and he did make us own choices. (Or JKR made them for him.) That said, I find the pressuring and doggedness and “fixing him” to be quite questionable at best. And I thought it was all those things, or did when I read it many years ago. I’ve said it before and I will say it a thousand times more, but who wants to be in a relationship you had to be beaten over the head to be talked into? Or be the other partner in that? Does that not seem creepy to other people?

Also, YES. Sirius should LOUDLY fix/knock Remus up in Grimmauld Place and EVERYONE should know. Tonks should be mortified. Molly should be put in her place. Sirius would be 100% into the pregnancy PDA and Remus would love it both because he’s getting attention but because he knows Sirius is making a point and he is on board with that. He may have gotten the good boy badge but he was a Marauder, too!

Maybe they even do it on purpose. Sure, there’s a war on, but as they know things go badly fast so they are going to grab hold of this second chance and if that means it gets Remus out of those werewolf missions and gives Sirius something to hold onto while in Grimmauld, then, yeah, it’s probably not the smartest idea but who cares? They can have a family with Harry and the other adults can take care of things (seriously, why is there an Order if they aren’t going to solve the horcruxes? And speaking of, how is no one working on a pardon for Sirius until after he is dead? Come on people) and everyone lives mostly happily ever after.

to further drive home a point made in another post that i reblogged earlier: mocking gay men & people who use the blue and green gay man flag by calling it the "toothpaste" flag and acting like this is a tumblr exclusive thing makes you look ridiculous. this is not a case of a flag for an obscure gender identity that only exists on this website:

this absolutely floods the search results on google because guess what: this is the flag for gay men. this is not something you can just ignore and act like it's not a legitimate thing. i'm not saying that this is a good thing, but for fuck's sake, there are gay man flags being sold on amazon. there is literally a wikipedia entry for the flag. this is a legitimate flag that you need to accept that people are allowed to proudly fly.

i don't care if you think it's ugly. it's not about the appearance and you know it isn't. this is about punching down on queer men and we've had enough of it. it's sad and it makes anyone denying gay men the right to use this flag look like an absolute fucking idiot. like seriously, if you mock gays who use this flag, you look like an absolute fucking dumbass. wake the fuck up, look at the world around you. gay men all across the globe have adopted this flag.

listen to us instead of speaking for us for once, for fuck's sake. i get it that it's become trendy in recent years to hate all queer men, and especially to be homophobic toward gay men- i'm looking at every single person who even ironically identifies as 'twinkphobic'. we're not stupid, that shit isn't remotely funny. if a gay man called themselves femmephobic or butchphobic you'd lose your absolute goddamn fucking mind. this shit isn't subtle anymore. this is overt homophobia. you better get the fuck out of our way, because we're not going anywhere. stand with us, let us choose the symbols that represent us, or get the fuck out. i'm proudly flying the gay flag until i die.

Today I was helping run the booth for the local queer non-profit at the farmer's market and a woman told me that she would like a flag, pointing to our little bucket of flags. So I picked up the bucket and I brought it over and asked her which one she'd like.

"Well, tell me about them!"

"Oh! Okay! This one is the inclusion flag- its for everyone, including allies."

"What's this one?"

"That's the bisexual flag: it represents people who are attracted to two or more genders."

"Hmm... what about this one?"

"That's the nonbinary flag: it represents people whose gender isn't strictly 'male or female.'"

"Hmm... what's this purple one?"

"That's the asexual flag: it represents people who may not feel sexual attraction the way that others do."

She put her hand to her chest and got this really curious look on her face. "Tell me more about that!"

"Oh, happy to! So like if you're out with your bestie and someone real fine walks by and she's like 'omg look at him' and you're like 'girl get a grip?' Or like you just don't get what the 'big deal' is about sex or why everyone is so weird about it? But there's also room for like- you don't fall in love with the way someone looks, you're attracted to the person- their sense of humor and their kindness, or there's something about their personality that just makes it click for you? That's asexuality, too!"

And she got real quiet and seemed to think about it for a minute. So I grabbed our little informational sheet about different queer identities and handed her a copy. "If you want to do some research, this is probably a great place to start."

She thanked me and took an ace flag, stuck it in her hair.

Sometimes when you're online all the time, its easy to think that 'everyone knows about (topic), there's no reason to keep talking about it so much.' But while the people on the internet are real people, the internet ISN'T real life. And there are lots of people who do need to know that they do have community!

One of the jokes is that I'm a lot of people's 'patient zero' for discovering that they're queer. This is why.
