I MUST recommend A Treacherous Thing by @amorsindolor. I read it on a whim a few months ago and it blew my mind. It's a deep angst that is unlike anything else I've read thus far.

When I got to the end, I was basically whispering wtf-wtf-wtaf to myself over and over. I literally went back up to make sure it wasn't a WIP and then just lay in bed for awhile to digest it. The pacing is just right and it's so phenomally well-executed.

It's tagged very, very well, but I glossed over the tags and skipped the Author's Notes until I finished it (I don't have major squicks or triggers so this is normal for me; mind the tags and CW, folks) . When I went back to read them, I actually screamed in delight because all the pieces fit together for me.

I mean this well and with affection - this fic is my hurt locker for when I need a catalyst to get me to this type of emotional headspace. It's haunting in the best possible way. I think fandom "classics" are subjective; this is one of mine.
