why does this matter?
downpour just brings more and better* content to rain world! and it's official! so why should i just ignore all of these new and fun additions and look at the dull, minimal plot that only goes up to some update from 2017?
i honestly don't think you should, but i think that it's worth mentioning why some circles choose to do this
vanilla rain world and downpour (specifically (primarily) more slugcats) have entirely different stories and aesthetics within those stories
the minutiae of what those differences actually are is open to a lot of discussion, but those differences do exist, and there are circles who are not particularly fond of what downpour has to bring to the lore of rain world
and ive seen a lot of conflict and awkwardness over whats 'canon' and what 'isnt', which sucks, because
both versions of the game are canon!!!
just in different ways! and kind of separate from each other!
so i think that if, as a community, we want rain world to not be full of conflict and awkwardness, everybody needs to understand that, yes, vanilla rain world as a standalone story is canon by itself, and that good readings and fanworks can be made without even touching anything related to downpour, but also that despite any issues it might have, downpour is endorsed by videocult, as also being canon, and that interpreting its story in any way isnt 'objectively incorrect' or whatever

all the fucking regions suck; the story is purely calculator drama (bad drama at that),, which sucks a lot cuz the most interesting part about rain world's lore to me never was the plot but just the worldbuilding so having almost none of that (except some ewy lore pearls in said new regions) in the games first official expansion does um... Suck massive balls..,..,.,.,.,.,,, Also why are (almost) all the cats so op :sob;;; ..,, the only good thing i can think of that came from DP is: Snow for custom regions and the inv campaign (im noy talking about tone or story or the ending,, just the gameplay itself was weirdly refreshing, to see all the regions get some unique stupid challenge that you have to work around,, it kinda recreated the feeling of first playing the game and figuring everythint out again to some extent)); so um, wish it had stayed as a mod :3
