It starts out like any other day, with the sunlight peeking through the blinds and with you by his side.

Joshua Hong wakes up three minutes before his alarm goes off. It has become an unbreakable habit of his to wake up a couple of minutes before his 6 a.m. alarm. Perhaps it is due to his anxiety—scared of missing the bus, afraid that he might go to work without his morning coffee, terrified that his boss might yell at him for being a second late.

You see, Joshua loves his job; he practically worships it. He doesn’t like going to work late, nor does he like seeing wrinkles on his shirt. His hair must always be slicked back to perfection. The files on his desk are organized neatly, in alphabetical order by its own color coordination. People think he’s suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder, but you, his long-time girlfriend, think that it’s just Joshua. It’s just so Joshua to always think of perfecting every detail. It’s so Joshua to always prioritize impressing his boss with the sales he contributes weekly more than anything. It’s so Joshua to wake up three minutes before his 6 a.m. alarm goes off.

Unfortunately, it’s also so Joshua to ignore the breakfast you fervently prepared for his big day.
