Remembering my place

I used to get annoyed when He would leave a coffee cup on the end of the counter instead of taking the extra couple of steps to put it in the sink. Or when He’d eat a meal in His office then bring the plates out and leave them on the end of the counter. Or when He didn’t empty the dishwasher to help out. And I’d get annoyed at being the one who put the dishwasher on every night.

That was until I gave myself a sharp course correction. Even after 20 years of being His property, these sneaky, toxic feminist thoughts can come up out of nowhere. Feminist beliefs can bury deep in the brain and stay hidden for years. All these things annoying me came from the lie of “equality”. They whispered in my brain that we were equal so why wasn’t He doing His share? Instead of recognising the feeling of being annoyed as a signal I was falling for those lies, I gave into them. I let resentment build.

And one day I snapped out of it. I remembered who and what I am. I remembered He should not have to do anything, not because He owns me but simply because He’s a Man. It is my place to do all of this and more. Instead of being grateful He had brought dishes to the kitchen so I didn’t have to go and fetch them, I was choosing to make myself more important than I am. No Man whoever steps foot in this house should ever have to lift a finger for anything – because they are Men. It is their birthright. I am female, my reason for existing is to cater to Men’s needs. To be useful to Men in whatever way they want. Nothing I do or say can change the truth.
