Having a Little with Anorexia Means…

Trigger Warning

Understanding that it’s not necessarily about being thin but about having control

Encouraging them to eat but never forcing them to

Not punishing or making rules against them not eating

Protecting them from th!nspo, meanspo, and other pro-ana things

Telling them how proud you are of them for eating, even if it’s only a small amount

Reminding them that they aren’t “gross” or “ugly” for eating

Having little rewards for when they eat a good meal 

Having a set meal schedule and understanding that they won’t be able to meet every goal

Not getting mad when they can’t eat

Understanding that no amounts of “You’re beautiful to me” “I love you just the way you are” will magically fix the problem

Distracting them during mealtime (Watching cartoons, colouring, making crafts)

Make sure that at the very least they stay hydrated 

Learning what their safe foods are and always having enough of them

Never guilting them for not eating / only eating a very small amount

Making sure they try to eat something at least once a day

Not making big meals

Never, ever, making fun of them or mocking them

Learning if there’s any fun games that help them eat

Understanding that Anorexia is a very serious eating disorder, and you will not be able to magically make them better. Always, always, always encourage them to see a medical professional who can help them physically and psychologically! It’s never as simple as “they just need to eat something” and no amount of love and reassurance from you will make them better. It can certainly help, and they need love and support, but understand that you alone are not going to be the “cure”.
