i have a billion other criticisms about star trek aos but the one thing i'll never forgive them for is taking away uhura's whimsy. tos uhura has such a bright & joyful presence she is kind and funny and artistic and cares about her looks WHILE ALSO being smart and badass and not afraid to speak her mind (especially in the movies. i love her). aos uhura is reduced to a one-dimensional #girlboss who takes no shit from anyone yet somehow lacks enough self-respect to stay in a boring & unsatisfying relationship with a man who is so obviously not attracted to women

A couple days ago you all helped me raise $1,000 to help Samar and Mohammed Abu Alwan pay for urgently needed medicine for their young child and two twin infants. Mohammed's relief at the news that I could send him the money he had asked for was extreme.

He assures me that he was able to buy the medicine the children needed thanks to your generosity.

I got an update today that Mohammed received some shocking news:

Today I received a big shock regarding the increase in the price of diapers for my twin children. It has become more than 100 in light of the closure of the crossings and the monopoly of the merchants on the dollar.

He and Samar want to buy as many diapers as possible now, so that they cannot be harmed by the price rising further. Diapers really are not optional in this situation, with water so scarce that it is impossible to launder cloth, and the children already sick from contamination.

These babies were born into genocide and live in it every day. Their parents want to provide for them and make them as comfortable as possible, but are forced to watch them suffer. We should consider ourselves very fortunate that the internet allows us to help them in a concrete way.

For now, Mohammed wants to raise $600 to pay for diapers for the next month (i.e. into mid-November).

My deepest darkest fantasy is that I collapse on the street and I am rushed to the hospital. They perform a bunch of tests and find out I am severely deficient in some kind of vitamin.
