It is not the most action packed chapter, but there’s some knowledge learned and some important moments. And Thace and Keith get interrupted during their alone time again because that never stops being hilarious. 

Okay! Thanks for answering :3 Follow-up question- how long are joeys in the pouch before they can emerge for the first time? And on that note, how old are they when they are generally completely 100% pouch-weaned?

Joeys need at least 7 earth months in the pouch before they can start coming out, but some joeys won’t leave the pouch for the first time until as late as 10 earth months. It depends both on physical development and how adventurous the joey is. 

Pouch-weaning is also variable. Given a chance (ie without external pressures like stress, or bureaucratic meddling) most joeys won’t leave the pouch for the last time until they’re about 4-5 years old, although at that point, they’re only just sleeping in the pouch at night. The absolute earliest a joey can be fully pouch-weaned is at about a year old, which is the earliest they can technically be weaned off milk. It’s generally not healthy for the joey to be weaned that early in either way, but it can happen. In Empire mandated creches, pouch-weaning is usually forced on the joeys at around 2 or 3 and that’s mostly because the carriers (and a few males) that work there are overburdened with joeys, so older joeys are weaned in order to free up pouch room for new arrivals.

So many plot aliens so little time

As I'm slowly picking through what is definitely the very last arc of The Rites of Courtship, I find myself with a whole ton of ideas for future fics, but no idea which to work on first. So this is me talking out loud about ideas I have in hopes that I figure out which one to focus on next.

If anybody has any opinions on which should be my next project, I’d be delighted to hear about it.

Continuations/Sequels:

* The Rite of Censure: Sequel to The Rites of Courtship. Keith is trying to figure out his place in the universe, while Voltron teams up with the Blades and a few less likely allies to sieze control of the Empire.

* Catch and Carry: Sequel to Bait and Switch. Alive, and with fertilized eggs, Haxus is for damn sure going to make sure he stays that way, even if it means throwing himself fully into support of Voltron. Meanwhile, Keith is trying to repair the strained trust with the team due to his whole 'sleeping with the enemy' choices, and trying to figure out what to do with being an expecting dad and having a Galra partner. Oh, and they can't carry the new-hatched joeys themselves without significant risk, so they need to find a sympathetic Galra before the eggs hatch to carry.

* Frayed Ties (tentative title): Continuation of Family: Found, Fractured, and Reformed. Having found his mom in Thace, Keith has to figure out if he even wants to reconnect. Thace is trying very hard to be there for the child he had to leave for the good of the universe, and Krolia is about ready to abandon her mission because her family needs her.

* Family Album: A side-fic to Family: Found, Fractured, and Reformed. Snapshots that peak into the lives of different characters throughout the timeline of the series, including pieces about Colleen, Mako (Shiro's mom), and Kyle (Keith's dad).

* Title TBD: Sequel to Accidental Baby Acquisition. Now that Hunk's adopted two tiny Galra joeys, and is (maybe? hopefully!) in a relationship with Ulaz, the reality of the situation starts hitting hard. Oh, and Shiro will be in that corner over there quietly having a meltdown over the fact that they can't avoid bringing helpless infants right smack dab into the middle of a war. (Also Ulaz failed to learn from Krolia's example. Oops)

* 3 Unnamed one-shots: Continuations to Kinky Kisses (and Other Galra BDSM Practices). Two will be from Antok's POV as he doms and subs, and deal with fun kinks like the Galra equivalent to shibari/kinbaku, electric stimulation, oral sex, more sexual roleplay, and multiple penetration, among others. The last is Antok and Kolivan bringing in a third to sub for both of them.

* With Tails in the Middle: Continuation to Tail Tales. Hunk and Regris embark with Slav on a mission trying to find/save Ulaz and enlist Thace and Antok to help them. They might just have found some of Slav's alternate realities in the process...

* Joined in Victory: Sequel to A Different Victory. Shiro and Thace struggle to piece their scrambled memories back together while juggling being drawn into Voltron, Sendak's everything, and Allura's Galra related traumas.

New Projects:

* Metamorphosis (working title): The Galra took interest in Shiro in ways beyond the Arena. After his escape Shiro discovers that his body has been changed drastically during his imprisonment and has to deal with the fallout. Keith is there to help, very concerned that Shiro's body now matches his far too closely.

* Galra Sex-Ed (working title): When Kolivan discovers that Keith had horrible experiences involving sex with humans on Earth, he offers Keith a chance to learn about sex and reproduction the Galra way. Turns out Galra are very hands on about teaching, and to prevent bonds, a different Galra handles each lesson. Or: Keith gets to have affirming sex with a whole bunch of Galra, and come to terms with his Galra reproductive anatomy.

* Title TBD Pidge/Sendak: Kate "Pidge" Holt, Matt's twin sister, convinces the Garrison to add her onto the Kerberos Mission, and gets captured with the others. She's thrown into the Arena with Matt and Shiro, and forced to put her years of self-defense and martial arts classes to use. Sendak, curious about the new species, demands to fight another one after Shiro's win to see if they're all that interesting, and Pidge eeks out a win after using his prosthetic arm against him. Sendak is furious and intrigued in spite of himself, and decides to call on an ancient tradition to claim Pidge as an underling. Pidge is determined to survive and willing to make a deal with the "devil" she knows she can manipulte to see to the safety of her crew and Earth. Feelings were not on the agenda for either of them.

And then I got another idea! They’re multiplying. 

* Untiled Hunk/Keith: Featuring part-Galra!Hunk (who isn’t Keith’s brother in this one) Hunk has been drawn to Keith since first sight (scent, really) and when he helps Shiro beat up the bastard that hurt Keith (really not Hunk’s intent, he swears) he gets drawn into Keith’s very tiny circle of friends and sends ripples of change through the timeline. With some help from Shiro’s very enthusiastic attempts at matchmaking, Hunk and Keith eventually start dating shortly before Kerberos, and Keith has Hunk’s support through the hard times that follow. When they take that final step of intimacy after freeing the Balmera, neither of them thinks anything could come of it. (Something very definitely came of it, and the Blades are surprised that Keith tried to take the trials while in labor. Keith and Hunk are even more surprised.)
