What kind of font do you use when you’re writing drafts on Word (or any other program) and why?
I usually use Verdana. I’ve just been using it for a long time. Don’t know why I started using it though.

Fighting and Winning against Copyright Infringement
This week, my friend and artist Susie Ghahremani posted a positive update on her lawsuit against a large retailer who ripped off her pin designs. You can read about it HERE.
Susie also tweeted:
i will ALWAYS encourage artists to protect their work! whether it’s through filing DMCA takedowns, registering trademarks and copyrights, or going to court. that’s how we enact change and use the system created to protect us!
As many of you know, I have been fighting theft of my work for the past few years and I am still fighting. This is a lawsuit that is happening right now:

I am also dealing with this:

I am not going to talk about these cases in any detail, except to say that reading positive updates from my artist friends who are fighting the same fight is incredibly helpful and motivating.
I want to share my own positive updates in the fight against copyright infringement. (I have agreed to not mention the names of retailers):
I have been in three copyright infringement lawsuits over the past 2 years. I have not been public about all of these cases because I want my followers to focus on my NEW ART (and buy from me!) and not be distracted by the bootleg versions.
Case 1: T-SHIRTS & SOCKS (Doggie Language)
If you google “Lili Chin lawsuit” you can read about a big case that I was in 2 years ago. This case lasted almost a year and was finally settled in December 2016 in my favor. I was able to win because I had registered copyrights for this infringed work, I had the moral support of friends and fans, and I had great legal representation. This enabled me to sue for statutory damages.
Case 2: SOCKS (corgis)
Last August, I went to court against another large retailer/manufacturer who were selling my designs on socks. This infringer didn’t think the case was worth fighting over and accused me of trying to rip them off. In court, the judge looked over the case, saw that their website was still advertising the socks, heard both sides, and ruled in my favor. We received the settlement that my lawyers asked for. This was another win.
Case 3: PHONE CASES (Dogs of the World)
When I saw my dog designs on a phone case sold at another national chain store, and the seller was uncooperative, we had to file another lawsuit. This case was also settled.
(There have also been other cases where we were able to come to an amicable settlement without a lawsuit. The lawsuits are necessary in cases when the thieves deny stealing or refuse to cooperate.)
I am hoping that other artists reading this can see that it is totally worth every penny registering copyrights and trademarks for all our works, and standing up for our rights when we need to. We can protect our intellectual property and we can be compensated when people steal from us. It is possible to win.
And with every WIN, big or small, this sets a precedent in court that will be helpful to artists in future infringement cases. Every win for one artist is a win for all artists. We are all fighting together.
It is going to become more and more expensive for infringers to get away with theft. Large companies need to know that artists can fight back.
To all my customers and clients, thank you for buying from artists and for your continued support. THANK YOU for letting artists know when you see copies of our art used on other people’s products.
To all artist friends, I am rooting for you, and thank you also for inspiring me to keep my chin up.
