This is a worthy re=blog that touched my heart. I hope it touches yours.

Hello, a couple years ago you posted a text about losing a dog and it really helped me, but I can’t seem to find it again, could you help me find it?

Sorry I’m just seeing this now. I haven’t been active on Tumblr in quite some time and I see you sent this back in March. I think this was what you were referring to. I hope it still helps. I know re-reading it helped me. ❤️

“One of my friends lost her young dog, tragically and unexpectedly, today. It comes as a great and terrible shock, not only to my friend, but to the Dogblr community as well. And I am sadly reminded of how we often take our dogs for granted.

Dogs don’t live forever… I’m pretty sure it’s their only true flaw. They live such short lives compared to our own, and within those 10+ years, we create many wonderful memories with our beloved canines. They become our family, our best friends, our entire world… We forget that even with their already fleeting lives, they can still be taken from us in the blink of an eye - suddenly and too soon.

Losing a dog is incredibly difficult and painful. Especially when that dog is the living, physical representation of your heart and soul. Emotions regarding that loss only amplify tenfold when it happens in such an abrupt and tragic manner.

In my experience, the grieving will never completely end. The pain of that loss will never go away, although it may dull and become somewhat less difficult to bear over time. The truth is, there will always be that special dog (and sometimes even multiple special dogs) within your lifetime…who deeply touched some part of your soul in some way. Even after death, that bond can never fade or be replaced.

So please, with every chance you get… hug your dogs. Give them lots of pats and tasty treats. Take them for a long walk. Do something you both enjoy together. Create new and wonderful memories with them. But most importantly, always tell them you love them. You never know when it’ll be the last time you do.”
