they broke up after dumbledore's funeral and everything was same till ron and harry had the argument in the tent and ron left. after that, harry just couldn't stop thinking about ginny, and what would be happening with her at Hogwarts, and so he was not able to concentrate on anything.

the locket was making him see nightmares where he would be either forced to watch ginny get tortured or worse, he would be the one to torture her.

all these thoughts were affecting him a lot and so he decided that if he wanted to end voldemort, he can not bear to have any weak points. he asked hermione to erase all his love for ginny from his memories; every moment they had spent together in the common room, near the black lake, on the quidditch pitch, in empty classrooms, every single moment. hermione was hesitant but she knew this was the only way.

without those memories, harry became the main weapon of the war, because he wanted nothing for himself anymore, he had no one to imagine his future with.

few days later ron returned, and before he could even bring up ginny's name, hermione had told him about harry's decision. ron too didn't like this but he could understand that it was what had to be done.

horcrux hunt continued, and soon the golden trio found themselves in the room of requirement to find the ravenclaw's diadem. unfortunately during this whole time, harry and ginny didn't come face to face even once.

after harry saw snape's memory and told neville to kill the snake, he heard a girl's voice "it's okay. it won't hurt. let me see you. you are so brave, you will be with your family soon" harry was enticed by that voice and so turned to see to whom it belonged, but all he could see was a flash of flaming red hair and then it was gone. after standing there for a few moments, harry realised what he was going to do and left to sacrifice his life.

he used the resurrection stone and saw his loved ones, but there was something still missing, like a hole in his heart. though, he ignored that feeling and kept moving. voldemort didn't waste a moment before using the killing curse on harry, but just before the curse hit him, harry saw a girl, with brown eyes and a blazing look on her face running towards him, and then he woke on the train station.

on the station, harry and dumbledore talked about voldemort, death, dumbledore's family and why harry was still not dead. but just before dumbledore was leaving, harry asked him about the girl he saw and dumbledore simply smiled and said "you will have to find that yourself"

after that harry woke up in the forest, narcissa lied, hagrid carried him to Hogwarts and yet again he heard that particular voice screaming and shouting. before he could think more about her, the battle started again, harry defeated Voldemort and went to keep the elder wand back in dumbledore's tomb.

"harry" said the voice which harry could probably hear for hours, days and maybe several sunlit centuries.

as soon as harry turned and saw ginny, he got a sharp pain in his head that got him on his knees, but not even for a second his eyes left ginny's face. ginny came by his side, and started rubbing back and hands "what happened harry? are you okay?"

the more harry stayed by her side, watching her, listening her voice, the more flashbacks he got.

the moment he remembered the time hermione has casted the memory spell on him, his pain went away and all he could say was "i love you gin"

ginny was still in a panic mode, yet she replied "i love you too. but wasn't sacrificing your life and dying enough, that you had to scare me again like this?" harry hugged her like she was the only real thing in the world. ginny hugged back and after breaking apart she slowly kissed his scar and rested her forehead on his.

harry still couldn't believe that he was fine, his gin was fine, and she was with him. for almost an hour they stayed there, just holding eachother.

later harry told gin about the whole horcrux hunt, and how he had erased the memories. harry thought that ginny would get angry for erasing their memories.

but she simply nudged him and said "looks like you can't forget me even if you want to. so you're stuck with me for an eternity, potter"

harry smiled, he cupped her face and wishpered near her lips, "maybe you are the only thing i can never forget and i don't even want to" and then he kissed her. it wasn't just a simple kiss or snog, it was the only way he could think of showing ginny that there's nothing he wants or needs other than her.
