Part 1

Summery: Your eyes are firmly set on a certain dark haired boy not realizing who was your perfect match all along. Its only when you finally pull your eyes from him it’s when you see who is really there for you and who you really feel for.

Silence fell over you and your friend for a moment. Neither of you dared to move, or breath just looked at one another completely overtaken by your revelation. You had never admitted it out loud, hell you had barely even admitted it to yourself. But here you were telling Arch, it surprised you that he was the one you would tell. You were closer with the rest of the group an only really spoke to Archie if you both seen each other around or when the others were there, he was just there and you were the same for him. But he said nothing, he just stood watching you with his lips parted and his eyes slightly furrowed

The moment was shattered when a tear overflowed and ran down your cheek. Then everything began to move again. ‘I-I-You do?’ Archie breathed. ‘I mean, Veronica and Kevin were always guessing that there was but they were never really sure, and the rest of us. We didn’t think it was true’ You shrugged as another tear escaped. ‘Well, it is’ You look a shaky breath. ‘For me at least’ How could it be that everytime you looked at him you knew Jughead was the only one you would ever fully unload to, that he was your rock in this stupid crazy town, that if you were with him everything was okay, that once he was by your side you would be able to breath.....and he felt nothing.

With that Archie reached out wrapping his arms around you pulling you into him. The second your face hit his chest tears began to flow freely. Your arms wrapped around him as he held you his hand stroking your back. 

Later you were sitting in Calc. You were dreading this class, it was the only one you had after lunch with Jughead. You weren’t going to avoid him forever, just today, you just wanted to avoid him today. Knowing Jug he would want to talk about earlier that day and you didn’t want to have to try make up an excuse yet. You pursed your lips when you seen Veronica, Jug and Archie walk into the room. Your eyes met Archie’s and he turned to Jug muttering something before speeding up.

He smiled at you as he slipped into the seat beside you. ‘Eh’ You tilted your head to the side your eyes squinting a little. ‘Thought you need some company-other company’ You chuckled a little and smiled your eyes flicking to Juggie and you sent him a shrug. ‘Thank you’ You leaned towards Archie as Jug took his seat. ‘What did you tell him?’ Archie pulled out his calc book and opened it. ‘That I needed help with this’ You rolled your eyes. ‘You’re sitting beside Betty dumbass’ You chuckled and he shrugged leaning back in the chair. ‘Hey, you’re better at this than Betty is’ He nudged your shoulder and you smiled shaking your head.

Jughead:

Jughead leaned forwards his eyes still on you and Archie. ‘Hey’ He whispered and Veronica turned looking back at him. ‘What?’ She quirked an eyebrow. ‘Do you think anything is going on between them?’ He nodded towards the two as he watched you smile at Archie. ‘He just needs help with math’ She shrugged. ‘He sits beside Betty’ Jughead argued his head snapping back to Veronica.

She sent a quick glance at her two friends. ‘Maybe, but what would I know. I thought there was something between the two of you’ She turned back towards the front of the class with a flick of her hair. Jug just glared at the back of her head until he caught sight of Archie’s arm lying over he back of your seat. He barely greeted Betty and the confused look she gave him when she walked in. His eyes firmly focused on you and Archie for the rest of the class as he watched you lean in close to him and how Archie’s hand would tap your back every time he needed help.

Jughead cornered Archie as they let the room, you had disappeared almost before the bell had even sounded dashing out of the room and down the hall. ‘What are you doing?’ Jughead snapped at Archie. Veronica’s eyebrows shot up. ‘Going to the music room to practice’ Archie frowned. ‘Like I always do’ Jughead shook his head. ‘No’ He stepped closer his anger flaring. ‘With Y/n’ Veronica smirked her and Kevin shared a look. Kevin cleared his throat. ‘Jug, why would you care? You don’t like her?’ Veronica had to hide her smirk when the dark haired boy turned to them. ‘She’s my best friend’ He snapped and then turned back to his red haired friend. ‘And she doesn’t need some Jock all over her, so back off’ He snapped his face inches from Archie’s before stalking down the hallway leaving his friends wide eyed.

You sat watching the back of Archie’s head as he strummed the guitar in front of you on the bleachers humming notes. ‘You know you didn’t need to join me’ You smiled at him and he shrugged. ‘You normally don’t, you stay in the music room’ You took a drink of your bottle of water and grabbed the towel wiping your forehead. ‘It’s a nice day out I thought I’d watch you run’ He explained. ‘Creep’ You chuckled raising your foot and nudging him in the small of the back. He glanced up at you and smiled.

You glanced down at your watch. ‘I need to go’ You told him realizing the time. He nodded. ‘So you’re not joining us tonight?’ You shook your head. ‘Can’t parent’s aren’t home I need to look after my brother and sister’ You told him. ‘Is that an excuse or?’ He left the question open. ‘It’s actually true’ You shouldered your gear bag and patted Archie’s shoulder. ‘I’ll see you tomorrow’ He nodded still strumming away on the guitar as he said goodbye. ‘Hey’ He called as you reached the bottom of the bleachers. ‘You ever need to talk, you know where I am’ You waved at him thanking him making your way back to the school.

You backtracked slightly as you passed the music room seeing the rest of your friends in there. ‘Archie’s out at the track’ You said causing Betty to jump a little. ‘He was out there with you?’ Jug crossed his arms and you nodded. ‘He thought he’d keep me company’ You smiled slightly shuffling your feet. ‘Why would he do that? What’s going on between you two?’ He narrowed his eyes. ‘Juggie’ Betty hushed. ‘Not again’ But Juggie ignored her staring at you.

You crossed your own arms. ‘Nothing, the same that’s going on between us Jug, we’re just friends’ You smiled at the others. ‘I’ll see you all tomorrow’ You told them turning on your heel and walking down the corridor. ‘Y/n, hey’ You turned to see Jug skidding around the corner of the classroom and striding towards you. ‘I’m sorry about earlier, I didn’t mean it to be so-’ He paused for a second. ‘-harsh. I shouldn’t have said that. I’m sorry I made you leave’ You nodded giving him a tight smile.

It wasn’t Jug’s fault he didn’t feel the same way about you as you did him you couldn’t hold that against him. ‘Jug, I get it’ You shrugged. ‘I know what you mean but that wasn’t it. I just had to go, I-I still do I’m sorry I need to get home’ You turned but were stopped by a hand on your arm forcing you to face your best friend again. When you turned you caught a glimpse of the others peaking around the door. ‘Is it what Cheryl was saying about your Mom?’ He stepped closer his hand gliding down your arm to hold your hand. ‘Is everything okay?’ He squeezed your hand.

You seen Ronnie’s eyes widen and Kevin wince, you could only presume she had either hit him or was grabbing his hand very tightly. ‘It’s fine Jug, It is’ You nodded. He stepped closer and Kevin winced again and Ronnies face lit up. ‘Do you want me to walk you home?’ Jug asked quietly. Usually when you had something to tell him and you didn’t want to say it around people, or were just being stubborn and not telling him what was bothering you he would offer to walk you home. You would have accepted today only his words from earlier repeated in your head and you shook your head. ‘I’lll be fine Jug. I’ll see you tomorrow’ You leaned up on your tip-toes and pressed a quick kiss to his cheek. ‘Thank you’ You whispered and pulled your hand from his walking down the hallway towards the door.

Jughead stirred his milkshake which had definitely began to melt by now. ‘Jug?’ He heard his voice being called and looked up the gang looking at him. ‘I hurt her feelings didn’t I?’ He asked watching their reactions. All their faces softened and Ronnie sighed a little. Archie looked out the widow his eyes avoiding Jugs. ‘That’s why she didn’t come, she’s avoiding me’ He groaned.

Archie turned back to them. ‘No, she had to look after her brother and sister, her parent’s weren’t home tonight, that’s why she’s not here. Not because of you Jug’ Jug raised an eyebrow. ‘She told you that?’ Archie nodded and shrugged. ‘Yeah, I asked her why and she told me that’ Jug leaned in closer. ‘She wasn’t lying?’ Archie opened his mouth to speak but Jughead wasn’t finished. ‘Because sometimes when she lies and she’s uncomfortable about it her nose does this little wiggly thing and she bites the left side of her bottom lip. she doesn’t notice it but she does, did she do that?’ Archie gulped and shook his head.

Ronnie chuckled a little. ‘And you know this how?’ She nudged Kevin under the table and he tried not to smirk. ‘She’s my best friend, I’ve known her for years. I notice these things’ He brushed her off before turning back to Archie. ‘Did she say anything else? About why they’re not there?’ Archie shook his head. Ronnie leaned in closer to Kevin. ‘Do you notice those things about Betty?’ She whispered. ‘Not in the slightest’ Kevin shook his head muttering. Ronnie turned to him with a smirk. ‘Not sure people do if they’re not paying a crazy amount of attention to you’ Kevin shrugged and nodded a smirk on his face too.

You rubbed your temples as you listened to them fight again. Your little brother and sister were asleep, you had made sure of that and only checked them a moment before, they were out, they weren’t waking up at all tonight. You shoved your chair back from the desk and stood. Quickly you crept over grabbing your shoes and pulling them on before opening the window.

You pulled yourself out before quickly climbing down the side of the house, something you had done hundreds of times before. Your feet hit the ground and you shoved your hands into your pockets before turning away from the house and walking down the street. You just wanted to walk, and clear your head.

Reenactor throws a spear at a drone

You glanced to your right and groaned as your cousin approached. Jughead who was sitting beside you followed your eyes and his arm instantly wrapped around your shoulder his fingers squeezing your shoulder. ‘Y/n’ Cheryl stopped by the table. All of your friends looked up. ‘Is it true?’ She crossed her arms across her chest. You tensed and Jughead shifted closer to you. ‘What do you want Cheryl?’ Veronica snapped. She just sent the raven haired girl a glare and smirked at you. ‘That your Mother has finally lived up to her name’ She giggled. ‘I overheard Mother and Father speaking this morning’ You rolled your eyes.

You think because you two were cousins you would be somewhat close, and you were, to an extent, but Cheryl was a blossom after all and blossoms were never nice, even to family. ‘And no, whatever you heard it’s not Cheryl, so give it a rest’ You snapped. Cheryl leaned forwards and smirked. ‘We’ll see won’t we?’ She glanced at your table once before turning and walking away. ‘You okay?’ Jug was straight in his other hand landing on yours in your lap and pried them apart.

You turned your head away from Cheryl’s retreating figure and were instantly met his green eyes. You nodded curtly and he raised an eyebrow. ‘What was that all about?’ Betty leaned forwards and you glanced at her leaning into Jughead a little. ‘I don’t know, her parents are always talking crap about my Mom, so she could have heard anything’ You shrugged trying to keep your face neutral.

Ronnie smiled and nodded. ‘Well, whatever it is you have Juggie to look after you’ She smirked her eyes darting between me and Juggie. ‘Course, she does’ Juggie smiled squeezing you closer to him. ‘Come’s with the territory of being her best friend’ You smiled and chuckled happy to have the dark haired boy by your side, all the time.

You and Juggie had been friends for a long time. Your Father had known his Father when you two were younger, before he had fallen off the wagon, but you two had remained friends ever since. Best Friends. People often thought it was an odd coupling, a Blossom girl and someone like Juggie. But after a while they had gotten used to it, well, everyone but the Taylor Hill Blossom’s and your mother were starkly against it. Everyone else in Riverdale accepted it and most of the kids even thought your two should be more, especially Veronica and Kevin.

Veronica giggled. ‘Not what I was going for Juggie’ Kevin leaned forwards and leaned his chin on his palm. ‘Ah yes, now that I have someone who completely agrees with my thoughts on how you two are hopelessly in love with each other, I believe it is time you two admit it’ He smirked. Betty just rolled her eyes at the two of them and Archie shook his head with a sigh. ‘V’ You scolded feeling your cheeks heat up a little. ‘Veronica, not this again’ Betty sighed.

Ronnie threw her hands up into the air. ‘Oh come on, look at them’ You furrowed your eyebrow looking down at your lap where your fingers were intertwined with Juggies. ‘Or else you both already know and just aren’t telling us’ Her eyes widened. ‘Oh scandalous’ Kevin gasped and Archie cleared his throat. ‘I wrote a new song’ He smiled. ‘Meh’ Ronnie waved him off her eyes still on you and Juggie.

You rolled your eyes pulling your hand from his and shrugging his arm off you scooting closer to Archie who was on the other side of you. ‘Since when am I scandalous?’ You snipped. Kevin laughed. ‘Since your parents got together, so forever’ He chuckled wiggling his eyebrows and you tensed again. ‘Look, there is nothing going on between me and Y/n’ Jughead exclaimed causing you all to jump.

You looked over at him. ‘I’ve never seen her as anything more than a friend and never will. How could I?’ He snapped and then crossed his arms glaring at Ronnie. You gulped glancing down before reaching out to touch his arm. You hand hovered over the black material of his jacket before you dropped it back to your lap. ‘Jug’ You whispered as you seen your friends shifting awkwardly in their seats. He just looked away from you all and out towards the field.

For a second you all sat in awkward silence until you turned your head to Archie and smiled tensely. ‘So, this new song’ You tried to make conversation and Archie jumped at the chance to fill the silence. You reached out again to lay a hand on Jughead’s knee while the others chatted a little about Archie’s song but again your hand came short before you could.

What did he mean how could he? You and Jughead had always been close, maybe he seen you as a sister. But then he wouldn’t have wanted to be your first kiss all those years ago. You guess the two of you had grown up together, maybe he still seen you as the little girl he used to play with. But how could you see him as so much more if that’s the way it was supposed to be? 

Feeling your eyes sting you reached under the table and grabbed your bag and stood. ‘I need to go’ You grabbed your books from the tabled before turning and leaving your friends. ‘Hey, you coming Pop’s later?’ Jug called out after you. It was a Wednesday meaning that all of you would be going to Pop’s to grab some fries and a milkshake. ‘Can’t’ You shouted back rushing away from them towards the building.

Jughead’s brows furrowed and he began to gather his stuff. ‘I doubt you should go after her’ Archie shoved Jughead back down into his seat as they both stood. ‘Think before you talk next time man, be a little less harsh’ He snapped as he grabbed his bag and jacket before rushing away from the table after you.

Jughead looked back at the others. ‘What?’ Ronnie sighed and shook her head. ‘Boys’ She mumbled. ‘What you said about you and her Jug’ Betty explained. ‘We know you didn’t mean it but it’s got to hurt a little’ Jug’s eyes widened slightly. ‘I didn’t, she knows that-I should-’ Before he could stand both Ronnie and Betty grabbed him ‘No’ The two girls chorused. ‘She get’s it Arch is gone after her, she’ll be okay’ Betty reassured him watching as Jughead spent the rest of the lunch glancing at where his two friends had disappeared to.

You shoved your English folder into your locker tears threatening to fall from your eyes. ‘I’m sorry about Jug’ Archies voice made you jump the sudden movement causing a tear to fall from your eye. Your hand came up and swiped it away before you closed your locker turning to look at him. ‘He didn’t mean it that way, I mean of course guys look at you like that, you’re very pretty, smart, talented, you’re part of the track team have perfect grades, aren’t afraid to stand up for yourself, that definitely wasn’t what he meant, you are att-’ You raised and eyebrow at him and he stopped. ‘I mean, well. You are’ You chuckled slightly feeling better already. ‘I don’t mean to be mean Arch, but we’re probably the least close people in that group, why did you come?’ He shrugged slightly leaning against the locker beside him.

You bit your lip letting out a sigh. ‘I was the first up, apart from Jughead. But I doubted you want to talk to him right now’ You dropped your head your shoes becoming the most interesting thing in the world. ‘He could have been less mean about it’ You felt a hand on your upper arm pulling your eyes up to meet his. ‘But it’s Jug, all he meant was, well you two have seen each other grow up, you’re not supposed to see each other like that’ You felt tears begin to sting your eyes again. ‘Then how come I see him like that?’ You whispered watching Archie’s eyes widen.
